    • RE: St Fauci, yet again, proves he's evil

@raphjd said in St Fauci, yet again, proves he's evil:

      https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/medical-advances/578086-bipartisan-legislators-demand-answers-from-fauci

Dr. Fauci is a man - just a man. Not the Devil incarnate, not inhabited by an evil spirit, and not someone intent on harming people. That said, he is apparently the focus of many a nightmare for @raphjd!

Still, I'm pretty sure Fauci didn't drug any puppies himself - but he is answerable for the actions of his Department! If these allegations prove true, there will be hell-to-pay from MOC. Read carefully tho - "part of a $375K grant" could mean $100 to cover phone bills, for all we know yet! That doesn't mean the NIH role was minimal, just that it really hasn't been outlined AT ALL except to say "part of a $375K grant" went to this lab.

The sad part is, tho even if this is entirely TRUE, in all its worst forms - the lab in Tunisia likely didn't break any laws in Tunisia, and because the NIH sent this grant money "over there", they likely didn't break any US Laws either (albeint they certainly would be guilty of breaking "human decency" laws-of-common-sense)!

As a society, we rely HEAVILY on testing: food safety testing, cosmetics testing (remember the rabbits with their eyes propped open revealed in the 70's or 80's?), drug testing, you name it!

It's more expensive (and slower) to test without using (abusing) animals... but, while THAT is the morally right thing to do, but with businesses today hyper-focused on short-term-profits, it's not surprising that they'd take "shortcuts"...

Gov't doesn't answer to shareholders, tho - there should be no excuse for taking shortcuts with Gov't funded research!

MOC are demanding answers... for now, we can all share our moral outrage that this happened at all (if it, indeed, really DID happen - it's not unlike special-interest groups to highly exaggerate Gov't actions (or in-actions) to get attention for their cause!)... and wait for the outcome of the investigations!

AND YET AGAIN, you prove you know more about Russia than I do.

Clearly, you are engaging in misdirection, badly, hoping people won't find you out.

It's just like how you know a lot more about Qanon than I do, but you keep accusing me of being a member.

I wonder which of us is using misdirection - the one who gets his "news" from Russian Troll Farms, or the one who is technically skilled enough to figure out Google Translate...

Who is more believable: the one who seldom provides sources (because they're Russian made-up lies!), or the one who regularly credits sources (I took Composition in High School - I know how to credit sources!)

I'm satisfied to let our gentle readers make that determination on their own...

Oddly enough, yet again you accuse me of being a Russian troll, yet you know more about Russian than I do.

I believe the term is "misdirection".

Indeed it is - we've shown the paths from your misinformation and lies from Russing Troll Farms... the fact that can use Google Translate to create Russian text is an apparent admission that your own Russian to English translator is so bad... but your Russian Handlers won't avail you of such a simple (and far superior) tool!

    • Snopes released from Fed lawsuit - with a vengeance

As you may know, Snopes.com has been a favorite whipping-boy of the Trumpist movements - including a member of their own board of directors (Christopher Richmond)!

In a stinging rebuke of Richmond (and his Atty: Matthew Hrutkay), a Federal Judge ruled in late Sept that their lawsuits were "without merit" and were a clear attempt to harass the company. As a result, not only was the suit dismissed, but the Court also sanctioned the plaintiffs - they have to pay Snope's legal fees, among other penalties.

      Background
Snopes.com has a well-earned reputation for UNBIASED evaluation of FACTS. Founded by a husband & wife (now divorced), in 1994, and becoming Snopes.com in 2003, it established itself as a defacto reference for debunking "urban legends" and "myths". It has been referenced by many major media outlets over the years.

Things with Snopes.com got "dicey" in 2014 when the couple were divorced - they split the "company." Then, in 2016, the ex-wife sold her shares to Christopher Richmond (and another investor, essentially the principles of Proper Media - the company that provided them with hosting and website design/maintenance). They (Richmond, et. al) promptly put themselves on the board of directors at Snopes.

But fireworks between original owner, David Mikkelson, and Richmod resulted in Snopes.com FIRING Proper Media in 2017. (Richmond was not happy? LOL)

Richmond sued his own company in California court - and lost (that case is being appealed), but then (after the CA court loss) also in Federal court.

The issue (and why this is important HERE!) is that Snopes.com has debunked dozens or even hundreds of Trumpist lies (ok, claims - but Snopes agrees they're false!), and our resident Trump Extremists (aka: Trumpists) like to point to this litigation as-if it was proof that the site was biased.

In truth, the site has been evaluated for fairness many times - and in each case, they have been shown to have demonstrated NO POLITICAL BIAS.

Jan Harold Brunvand, a folklorist who has written a number of books on urban legends and modern folklore, considered the site so comprehensive that in 2004 he decided not to launch one of his own to similarly discuss the accuracy of various legends and rumors.

In 2009, FactCheck.org reviewed a sample of Snopes' responses to political rumors regarding George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, and Barack Obama, and found them to be free from bias in all cases.[30][31] In 2012, The Florida Times-Union reported that About.com's urban legends researcher found a "consistent effort to provide even-handed analyses" and that Snopes' cited sources and numerous reputable analyses of its content confirm its accuracy. Mikkelson has said that the site receives more complaints of liberal bias than conservative bias, but added that the same debunking standards are applied to all political urban legends.

    • RE: Lie in Court or Be Fired! - Crazy Qualified Immunity Case

@raphjd said in Lie in Court or Be Fired! - Crazy Qualified Immunity Case:

      @bi4smooth

State and local level employees only have Qualified Immunity, while federal employees have Absolute Immunity.

Judges, at any level, also have Absolute Immunity.

In the UK, every government employee, regardless of the level of gov they work for, has Absolute Immunity. I forget the legal term they actually use, but due to the influence of the US, everyone commonly calls it Absolute Immunity.

The idea of some level of immunity for police & Government officials - in so far as, they shouldn't be held liable for an act they didn't KNOW was illegal - is fine. What's been lost is the common sense ... the litmus test should not be "is there case law," as that means it has to be an exact repeat of the earlier event.

Think: "No, this ISN'T the same as the George Floyd case, your honor - because I didn't use my KNEE to choke him to death, I used my ELBOW! No one has ever killed killed a suspect in custody with their elbow before, so I get IMMUNITY! I didn't know you couldn't kill them - WITH YOUR ELBOW! I thought it was just with your knee! My bad! Can I go back to work now? I want to see if killing suspects in custody with an ARTIFICIAL knee is illegal, too..."

      Youtube Video

      So I watched this video...

First, I'm not at all surprised you watch this guy: Roman Balmakov... hmmm... anyone else spot the Russian influence in there... if not, listen to him... there is a very subtle accent in his voice... I cannot pinpoint it to Russian, but... if it looks like shit, smells like shit, and tastes like shit, it's probably shit - so be careful not to step in it! (Thanks, Cheech & Chong!)

Now that doesn't mean the info is wrong - just that I question the "spin"

In the case of J&J pulling the "Texas 2-step" routine (that is: when a company has a liability lawsuit it thinks it'll lose, it creates a spin-off company and puts all the potential liability into that company, but DON'T provide that new company any (or enough) sources of income... so, in short order, that new company has to file for bankruptcy!)

It's a corporate sleazeball move, and one that is actually illegal - but it depends on what state the company is "registered" in (that is: where they are incorporated)... Regardless, it creates a new set of cases where the cancer victims now have to sue both J&J and the new company to get the spin-off voided by the courts. If nothing else, it's a time-waster on J&J's part! And it's a sleazeball move!

However, the tie-in at the end of the story to the FDA approval of the booster shots is just bullshit. The FDA isn't standing behind J&J in the talc/asbestos cases, but they DO want and need the vaccines... these aspects of J&J are unrelated.

I would like to add, though, that railing against "Big Pharma" sounds more like Bernie Sanders than Donald Trump!

(Aside: don't fall for the bullshit ad for buying Gold and Silver as a hedge against the "inevitable collapse of the US Dollar" - it's a scam, and you can TELL it's a scam because they're offering you "free cash"... bullshit!)

    • RE: Combine Categories

      @nietzsche58 said in Combine Categories:

@bi4smooth That doesn't address the question, it's about categories rather than search terms. Category searches seem to perform an OR match rather than an AND match (the latter makes more sense to the OP and myself). It would be nice if the term search gave a way to search for the categories using AND, OR, and NOT.

I see - you're referring to the "check boxes" in the Search page -- BEFORE you put in the search criteria...

I'm not sure how you would make that user-friendly... most of our users are not Computer Scientists familiar with the differences in the LOGICAL (not the English) AND, OR, NOT, and XOR...

I DO agree with you that it would be nice if the search bar itself had more advanced search features... like the ability to use a - to indicate that you should exclude a string...

So, for example: "OnlyFans -Reno" would search for OnlyFans, but exclude results that had Reno

Sadly, our search engine isn't that advanced - or if it is, I don't know how to use it properly... (The syntax above works in Google 🙂 )
