      https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/08/18/61percent-of-americans-paid-no-federal-income-taxes-in-2020-tax-policy-center-says.html

In 2019, 44% of American "taxpayers" paid zero federal taxes, and that is without Covid.

in 2020, 61% of American "taxpayers" paid zero federal taxes.

Before anyone says something stupid, CNBC is a leftist "news" outlet.

It's OK to call CNBC "Liberal" - it's a label they use for themselves and aspire to "show"! The same as Newsmax and OAN claim the label "conservative" and aspire to "show"...

Contrary to @raphjd's beliefs, I know q few liberals, and they each proudly wear their "liberalism" on their sleeves, and do not take being called a "liberal" as an insult!

But on to the story... again, I am confused by your headline, Comrade...

The US Tax Code is about 2600 pages of the Government trying in influence people's actions by increasing or decreasing their taxable incomes. Added into that publication are 6500 MORE pages of "interpretations" of those original 2600 pages - regulations and rulings from past tax court cases.

The issue with the US Tax Code is... EVERYTHING

As noted above, the Tax Code has become WAY TOO LARGE and unwieldy, and it is primarily a conglomeration of 50+ years of Government interference into how people act!

The result is that 61% of people - people like Joe the homeless guy who actually didn't make enough money to buy a pair of $20 shoes last year, as well as people like Warren Buffett and Jeff Bezos - who made enough money to seriously dent the National Debt! - but who have an army of accountants who scour the tax code and find ways to make all of that income non-taxable (or offset by Gov't "tax credits," "tax deductions," or "write-offs.")

It is true: the only people in the US who pay taxes are the working poor and the working middle-class. The poor don't and the wealthy don't... and it's all legal - which is a crime against humanity!

Well, the democrats did not necessarily LIE.
The democrats only want to "tax the rich"
The only catch is, they consider anybody making over $600 per year to be rich!
That is not unusual, because in communist countries such as China, a lot of people only get paid 50 cents an hour - so one could consider $600 per year to be rich under communism - which is what democrats admire so much. Total government control!
