I am new to this whole US Election (ever since Trump won) and I just find it very amusing to see all the democrats' over-reaction to the 2016 election and I was interested to know if it ever happened in past elections.

The Confederacy was the southern states where slavery was legal.    The south's economy (cotton, tobacco, etc) was very labor intensive and would have failed if slavery was outlawed.

The Republicans used ending slavery as a way to end the stranglehold of the Democrats (also referred to as "Dixie-crats") had on the south.

Democrats were the party of the KKK until at least the 1960s.

Democrats of the 1960s (think LBJ) did more harm to blacks than anything since slavery ended.   Due to the way the welfare laws are written, it's better for single moms than for families with the father in the home.   Also, the more you breed, the more cash you get rolling in.

Southern Pride is a mixed bag.   Liberals claim it's only ever about racism while ignoring the fact that a lot of blacks also have Southern Pride.

NOTE:  Hemp was originally outlawed to protect the cotton industry.   It could be grown in most of the US, while cotton could only really be grown in the south.

Even though it was about 12 years ago, I came out to my long-term – high-school + 3 years military + 2 years after military -- friend.
after I confessed to him, his answer was short and to the point:

"I already have a gay friend. I can't have too many gay friends, people would think I'm gay"

If each individual votes anonymously, how can there be a demographic statistic of which ethnicity voted for whom.
meaning how can they say that a certain percentage of a population voted for Republican or Democrat?
populations examples: white, white college graduate, Hispanic, women, Latinos, Blacks, Asians etc…

Generally, I know that if you win the majority of the votes in a state, you win all the electoral votes of that state.
Yet, there are instances (e.g. 2016 Election) where you don't win all the electoral votes of that state.
In what scenario can this happen?
Also, in the state of Maine, did Trump win 2 electoral votes or not?

It has come to my knowledge that there are midterm elections in 2018.
What is the purpose of this election? I dare to ask: is it a presidential election of sorts? (I know that a president is elected every 4 years)

My sister who is in great shape and fit has been helping me exercise for about a month now,
I'm overweight (started at 98kg) and since I started working out with my sister, I lost 3 kg.
The exercise basically is fast walking intertwined with a lite running. during this month I've been exercising 3 times a week
almost an hour each.
I'm not keeping a healthy diet much, but I do try. That said, I suddenly weighted myself on the scale only to find out that I gained
weight from 95kg to 98 - in two days!! (same as I started). It's unclear to me why that is. I didn't do anything unusual. What went wrong?
