      @SFjoe1966:

      DOWNLOADED COPYRIGHT CONTENT BUST THREE

      One day after some downloading, the phone rings, and it's a woman from my small town, piddly little cable company / ISP, and she informs me, that "someone at your location, illegally downloaded copyrighted media content in the past 24 hours. Regrettably, I asked her what specifically was the content. Then I blacked out for a bit and suddenly snapped to when she was saying "blah, blah, blah, so in so BONUS CUM SCENES video." I was horrified, and quickly made up something about the neighbors hacking our wi-fi then hung up after promising it won't happen again. Moments later I hired FruitVPN, and ever since I've been routing all my torrent downloading traffic to server's in Oslo, Norway (you can pick anywhere). The service works so well that when I was experiencing some connection issues, I called the ISP for tech support, and this time after putting me on hold to check my equipment, she came back and said "we don't know why, but for some reason, your cable modem is pinging in from somewhere in Norway. She reset the connection and apologized for the obvious technical error. I've been downloading freely ever since, but I'll never forget the horror of her totally busting me for downloading porn in the first place. Thank God she didn't dispatch the repair technician to my secret place in Norway.

      I don't mean to sound mean…. But.... Why the fuck do you think every single tracker, and user talks about VPNs? Either people have never really took the time to understand this technology; or people did not want to invest a small amount of money for their internet safetly. Every bit of information is collected from you. WTF do you think we're fighting for Net Neutrality? It's real shit!!I go even further, 95% of the time I use my seedbox. There I not only have the storage, but I never have to worry whether or not my VPN is on or off.

      Listen, torrenting is absolutely NOT for the weak. People really, really need to learn. And I'm aware that some dudes have to wank at public bathrooms every once in a while, I would NOT even download any porn on my phone. You just don't know if you'll ever be put in the position where someone of authority will access your phone, or whatever. I don't care about the privacy laws, because shit has a funny way of happening in life... We should know better than this, especially as gay men. There still exist people that are always willing and ready to destroy LGBT peopl in anyway they can!!

      Hey

      Does your seedbox ever get hit with Notices of Copyright by any chance?  I'm guessing the seedbox is still susceptible to copyright and that the seedbox owner is still liable to divulge your information if required by a court.  How is a seedbox legally more protective of your identity?

      @bearbearbear:

      Agreed, but in this case the member is deliberately lying and circumventing the rule against begging by posting the request in the comments and blowing off someone who pointed out that he's spreading misinformation.

      Whoa …  Deliberate lying!  Circumventing the rules!  Spreading misinformation!  :crazy2: Did the user also steal candy from a baby and single-handedly pollute the ocean??  LOL  The intensity of rhetoric that you used is, like, totally disproportionate to the banality of this problem.  Maybe it's a slow week on GTRU so we're ratcheting up the forum drama, eh?  In which case, oh my god he made TRUMP WIN!  😉

      Is there any rule that prohibits a user from requesting / asking / begging / beseeching / pleading / blackmailing for seedbonus points in the description, in the comments, in the file title, or literally anywhere on the torrent file?  I haven't seen one myself, so I look forward to clarification from a moderator.

      If there is, then bring it up with the user and we can go on with our merry lives before - gasp - more misinformation is spread.  If there isn't, then this entire topic has been a thoroughly unnecessary and trivial complaint by zbret who got annoyed (which is honestly a personal problem
      for zbret, not a problem for the community or for GTRU staff).

    • RE: Using Torrentsafe as a Seedbox may be beneficial

      @raphjd

      Do you remember how much you spent on your NAS and how much storage?  I see them go from $300 - $2000 (!).

      I hear you on needing to divert your computer.  That happens to me a lot when I come across a good torrent, start the download, but I'm about to start a game with friends.

      One of my fears with a seedbox is that it's a paid subscription.  If you ever stop paying, you immediately lose access to all of the data you've accumulated.  That essentially locks you into a forced contract for the rest of your life, and you're susceptible to third-party risk that's out of your control (eg. if they force-close your account).  Any thoughts?

      I would think an NAS would be safer since you physically control and monitor the device on your own premises, I'm just hesitant on taking the leap to something that would cost as much as a new computer just for personal porn.  Do you share any of your media?  I can see an NAS being effective if you're sharing media with others.

    • RE: Question about the search system?

      I haven't tested this, but many search engines have an 'exclude' function:

      -chaterbute

      You'll need verification from a staff member to see if the GTRU search engine can process this query

    • RE: I need seedbonus points to fix my ratio and continue posting videos

      @bearbearbear:

      @pols1337:

      The point still stands: this is a new user who actively contributed something first and did everything 'correct' in terms of posting a descriptive and valuable torrent.

      Doing something good isn't a license for doing bad things.

      @AnythingOld:

      Bottom line, if users would actually bother to read the site rules/instructions, we wouldn't have these "misinterpretations." Everyone would be on the same page.

      That is true but it never has happened and will never happen, here or anywhere else.  Even if everyone carefully read and understood and remembered all of the rules that apply to them, some people will choose not to follow them.

      Besides, what he is doing is not against the site rules even if it is against their spirit and intention as he is begging for points in the comments, not in the video description.

      Hi, some thoughts:

      1.  In my opinion, out of all the possible things that could go wrong on the site, this hardly ranks in the worst.

      Here are some things, at least to me, that are far more problematic:

      • Uploaders who incorrectly miscategorize the categories
      • Uploaders who post wrong or inaccurage thumbnails
      • Uploaders who don't put complete descriptions or don't correctly identify all of the files
      • Uploaders who pad their files
      • Freeleech that's a string of non-mainstream porn like Chubolds
      • Members who intentionally put down or attack other members

      All of those are far more problematic to me as a GTRU user than some new guy asking for seedbonus.  Like, who cares if he begs for seedbonus?

      2.  Doing something good isn't a license for doing something bad – As I explained above, what the user is doing - out of the grand totality of the worst things possible on GTRU - hardly ranks as problematic.  And as I've explained before, this is a user who uploaded FIRST and then asked for seedbonus.  That's a far more valuable member than a member who doesn't do anything, but still begs / asks for free stuff (eg. all of those members who want OnlyFans), wouldn't you agree?

      A homeless guy who gets a minimum wage job and still asks for money is much more valuable to society than a homeless guy who just begs for money.

      3.  New members should be allowed more leeway.  They're literally new and inexperienced to the site.  The question shouldn't be "how do we ban / criticize every new member who doesn't know the rules?".  Instead, the question should be, "how do we present a smoother onboarding that clarifies and affirms our community guidelines".  For example ...

      • Are brand new users presented with announcement bar for the first 90 days that links them to various Rules and Guidelines?
      • Do brand new users receive a welcome email message that links to various Rules and Guidelines?
      • How does GTRU reconcile the Rules section and all of the pinned posts tucked away in the forums, which no new user is ever going to realistically browse?
        -  When was the last time staff reviewed the Rules?  It's a block of text that begins with Terms of Service, which is hardly what new users need to read about.  They need easy, bullet point references on the MOST important items to begin using the site, and then links to details if necessary.
      • What is the member journey and what information do you present at each new step?

      These are the kinds of substantive community management discussions that will drive the community forward and offer a smoother onboarding experience to encourage more valuable, contributory users.

      I agree, sending some seedbonus as "thank you" is a wonderful way of showing your appreciation.

      You can also redeem your seedbonus for various things like invites or uploads.

      @in2unow123:

      @pols1337:

      Hold on.

      With all due respect to the OP, I think this is as much a case of overzealous peer moderation as much as it is a request for help.  I'd like to point out the following in defense of the user wanting more seedbonus:
      1.  He uploaded torrents to seed them, and requested seedbonus points as a donation.  I've seen multiple new users who do that, and I don't know why this user should be singled out versus all of the others.  If it's a flat rule, then apply it equally.  Otherwise, I don't see anything technically wrong with a new user requesting seedbonus points for his contributions.
      2.  He uploaded multiple torrents to seed.  If he uploaded even just 5 torrents (linked to in this topic), my guess is that probably puts him in the upper half of all members contributing new content to the GTRU community.  That makes him a fairly valuable new member, to be honest.
      3.  He didn't post his request in the torrent description.  He posted factual, descriptive text that's informative and on point.  His request for extra seedbonus was down in the comments.
      4.  Frankly, this is a pointed criticism to the OP zbret: instead of being annoyed at a new member, why wouldn't you channel your annoyance at something constructive and reach out to the member.  You've clearly been a successful member of GTRU for many years, and your experience would be beneficial to help new members.  This topic could have been: "How do we help this new user acclimate to the community and be successful."

      This is a new member who has actually gone above and beyond to contribute new content and done it in a fair way, yet we're standing around criticizing him.  That's a poor reflection of the community.

      I run my own community, and there is a HUGE difference from my perspective as a community manager between a member who attempts to contribute first and then asks for help versus a member who just begs for content without doing anything.  This is probably one of the most valuable new members you can onboard to GTRU: He's posted multiple new files.  He's posted informative text.  He's uploaded proper screenshots of both large photos and thumbnails.  If anything, he has the potential to become a superuser and a major contributor to the community for years to come.

      Considering that Uploader Identities are anonymous, how would you know the # of files the Uploaded has uploaded? Hmmm? I put on the breaks reading your argument the moment I read that. I do give you credence for taking your position, and your passion and manner in which you articulated your position. But back to basics, how do you know all of this when the Uploader of any torrent is anonymous to all except staff and moderators?

      Hi.  Does one torrent lessen the argument any more than five torrents?

      The point still stands: this is a new user who actively contributed something first and did everything 'correct' in terms of posting a descriptive and valuable torrent.

      The whole point of wiping down equipment is to clean it up for the next person, not smear your own sweat on the equipment for the next guy LOL.

      Let's be honest, the problem for overweight people is not that they exercise too much, it's that they exercise too little.  Let's clear that up first.  Fat people don't worry about 'exercising too much'  :laugh:

      With that said, if you feel like you're exercising too much, you probably have access to resources like gym trainers who can professionally advise you anyways.

      @ben351500:

      @flozen:

      I welcome input if I'm wrong, but in defense of some (clearly, not all) of the struggling Uploaders, it's quite possible they live in a country where Internet provider speeds are slow, or somewhere that charges a lot of money for what we, in more developed markets, consider standard service.

      Thanks for mentioning this. I live in Sri Lanka, and despite having the best high-speed service available here, the entire system often slows down dramatically or stops completely for periods of time ranging from minutes to hours every day. There's nothing to be done about it, but it does affect my ability to both upload and download in a timely way. Part of the price you pay for living in paradise.

      Is it paradise if you don't have good internet speeds??  :cheesy2: LOL

      @raphjd:

      Obama needs to go away.    Imagine how butt hurt you and your fellow lunatics would be if GWB and other former Presidents constant criticized Obama while he was President.

      MAGA isn't about white supremacy, except to lunatics.   It's about the US having manufacturing in all sectors like we used to have.   It's about ending NAFTA.   It's about getting all NATO nations to pay their legal obligations of 2% of GDP, instead of letting them pay as little as nothing and the US topping up NATO's funds.

      I don't know the economics of manufacturing, but … do you genuinely believe that US can reclaim its manufacturing base in all sectors like the past?  I feel like the boat has sailed, and countries with lower manufacturing bases and looser environmental regulations will underprice any US manufacturing.  I feel like the people who say this have a very naive view of the world (and this is not a criticism at you, but a general observation).  Capitalism will always source goods and materials with the cheapest labor and materials.  That's just how capitalism works.  Does a company want to hire a $35 / hr American who wants paid family leave, full medical / dental / vision healthcare, and employee benefits like disability insurance versus an $8 / hr Chinese who is grateful to be sending money to his family home.  Does the American actually want to plug a widget into a gizmo for 12 hours a day, live in substandard company housing, and get paid $8 / hr??  And even if the US President wants to try to move manufacturing back to America via tariffs, it would STILL be cheaper to make it in China, transport it across an ocean, and add tariffs.  I think America needs to have a serious discussion about what is possible, versus constantly trying to relive a glorified view of the past.  That stymies us from having real and difficult conversations about what it'll take for us to be a continuing leader in new technologies and industries.

      As an American, I am all for a strong America.  I'm for strong borders, I'm for making allies pay their fair share for us to police their shit neighborhoods, I'm for fair trade where countries don't rip our intellectual property.  But I'm also for a hard look at how we actually evaluate our future options in a realistic manner.
