      From my topic…“Poll: Discrimination--Abuse and You” - https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=46788.0

“…it was quite surprising who the shit-head was that did these things, in that it was a “friend”--a couple of years older than me, and someone I had known for about 10 years at that time. We even shared an apartment together for a brief period. The really bizarre thing about what he did was that he did these things at all!

After hearing the rumor about me and Bobby, which was going around the department where the three of us worked, he asked Bobby about it--later coming to me, and I confirmed the rumor. The little chat ended with him saying something like, “Well, don’t make yourself a stranger.”

The next thing I hear coming out of his mouth--only a couple of hours later--while I’m doing some work in a room a few doors down from where this dickhead worked, I heard this soft shout going down the hall…

“Hey everybody, there’s a homosexual in room …” (I think was the term he used, and I forget what the room number was of the lab I was working in)--anyway, this dick is repeating “Hey everybody, there’s a homosexual in room…”

Can you imagine that? In his mid-20’s--at his place of work, in a stock room, on a floor shared with labs and offices, occupied with grad students, professors, and whoever else, all in the Chemistry Department of the College of Chemistry, at the University of California, at Berkeley--and shouting that down the hall. I mean really…was it that big of a deal to him (or anyone else for that matter) that he would raise such a commotion? That’s definitely got to be someone with a pretty fucked-up set of priorities, if you ask me.

Over the next couple of weeks, after work there would be little clippings on the windshield of my car, offering “Homosexual Counseling” clipped from the school paper. He also came to my apartment complex, once spray-painting “Fag” on my car door, and doing it twice on my apartment door--the first one only needed some scrubbing to remove, while the second time, I actually had to paint the door. Yeah, obviously it was that big of a deal to him. What a nut!”

    • Help needed in identifying this song–the snippet from "A Raisin in the Sun"

Please…help needed in identifying the song snippet from the 1961 Columbia motion picture classic, A Raisin in the Sun–based on Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 Broadway play of the same name--the title from Langston Hughes’ 1951 poem, “Harlem” (“Dream Deferred”).

It’s a great movie, and I’ve seen it a few times. The first time was in a junior high class back in the mid 70’s. The last time was just a few years ago; and that was the first time I noticed the tune in a segment running almost exactly 30 seconds--from around 56:50 to 57:20 in the movie--recognizing the “call” as the opening of a song on a record I had that my mom brought home one day.

Unique in a couple of ways--the 7” was a 78 RPM record, and not the usual 45 and more interesting was the song itself--an African song. I have no idea where my mom got the record, let alone how the song came to be of interest to her in the first place. Asking her about it today, she probably wouldn’t recall much with so many years gone by. I was probably 5 or 6--the mid 60’s--the last time I heard the song.

Anyway, typical with me and getting older, is that desire to “hold on” to some of those moments and things from my past--this song definitely being an example--and any help in reliving this would be most appreciated!

A song about a place across the bay from where I now live…

“Mill Valley” (1970) Miss Abrams and the Strawberry Point Third Grade Class

Another “one-hit wonder” from the same era as the song in my previous post (“Timothy” - https://youtu.be/OqDu5LBT8_Y) but definitely a tune with a much happier “note”–the music video, believe it or not, was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with comments added in the “Redux” version of the video.

      “Timothy” (1971) The Buoys

A familiar tune from my past, a “one-hit wonder” written by Rupert Holmes–also known for "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)"--“Timothy” stirred up quite a bit of controversy based on the actual events of the subject, and the named, Timothy…

      @Ellis:

      I’m in my 50’s…

Physically able as I was, when I was in my 40’s,

      Usually feel like I’m in my 30’s;

And, thanks to my partner of 34 years (22 years my senior), whom I met in my 20’s,

I live the hedonistic and pretty carefree life, comparable to when I was in my “’teens”–very few worries, all about the “now,” and disregard and little concern over what “tomorrow” may bring.

Of course, I know--as my partner occasionally points out--somewhere “down the line,” I will have to assume responsibility, to prepare for that time (and I hate even thinking about “it,” let alone discussing it), when he may not be around.

      Anyway, I’m 56.

It's official…as of 30 minutes ago--based on the local time and date at my place of birth--I am now 57.

The first time marking my arrival as noted on my birth certificate…Honolulu, Hawaii  March 18  11:55 PM...and I have arrived!

In California--March 19  2:55 AM (Might as well take advantage of the fact and celebrate accordingly and party on through the 19th too! :D)

    • “Ringing In” Your Birthday

First and foremost–to my fellow March 18th-born members (and to those born on the 19th as well)…

      HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

A birth date of March 18, acknowledgement and any celebrating of my birthday took place on March 18th…24 hours--midnight to midnight--from the 18th to the 19th. Allowable circumstances would have me extending the duration practically another full 24 hours--taking into account the fact that I was born at 11:55 PM--starting the “real” 24 hour period at the noted “official” time, 5 minutes before the conclusion of the first 24.

With the passing of more than 56 years, and all of that convoluted logic (scheming), only a couple of weeks ago the thought crossed my mind, and only for the first time. That was the first time ever, I thought of my time of birth relative to my place of birth.

Regarding time, everything has always been based on “local time”--date and time of all birthday-related stuff, and all 56 birthdays, with respect to my geographical location at that time--Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) in my case.

The first few were in Washington, and the rest from the 4th or 5th on, in California--each geared towards the local time and date--March 18th.

Adjusting everything, going by the numbers relative to birthplace…in Honolulu, Hawaii, 3 hours behind, it’s 11:55 PM, March 18th, and I have arrived!

In California however, the party’s been over--the 18th come and gone--and as far as the U.S. west coast is concerned, it’s March 19th!

So--hoping this makes some sense--to those familiar with the circumstances of being situated where the time zone difference between your current geographical location and your birthplace creates a difference in the dates of the locations…

Just out of curiosity, which date do you recognize your birthday on?

Do you mark the occasion based on your birthplace’s local time and date, or those of your current locale instead?

      Now with a little less than 9 hours--or 12--to my Delivery-Day…

Happy Birthday again to all of you–Pisces/Aries–with a birthday today, March 18th…or 19th!

(Along with this post, I’ll be sure to update my previous age-related entries on the Forum as well. :D)

Timely Delivery - Closing Words & Such

      Before anything…

A thank you to all of you and the interest to have you read this–with a special thank you to those responding! 😄

In addition to whatever else, without doubt, there is a bit of irony here.

A brief explanation came with the card I received from him yesterday. Apologizing, saying he had to "move on"–it also mentioned the return of some things and a package was on its way to me.

The photo shown in the image below was one of the items in the package. The package came about an hour ago--ironically, yet somehow fitting with it all--the gift arriving today…today being my birthday.

      Oh well. ???

      @rufusmc:

Not sure where the certificate is these day…

      Same here. 😞

      Looking into replacements recently revealed:

      1. Costs $60.
      2. Associated official signatures are not current to the original diploma, instead being those of the current officials at the present time.
      3. Unsure of the exact name as it appears on the original means the replacement could end up bearing a different name from that of the original.
      4. Along an edge of the new document will be a (potentially unsightly) "replacement" notation.

With all of that going against it, I'll definitely make a point to search diligently for the original before opting to settle for the replacement.

My other SO said “Bye bye.”

      The ABCs…

A relationship spanning close to a quarter of a century, and over a couple of decades, is one that I’d call “long-term”–as would most people.

A bit surprised at its ending, with no problems, and no signs indicating a possibility of such.

A move a couple of years ago turned the relationship into a long distance one as well--hours and hundreds of miles away, is a big difference from just a few minutes and miles away.

Being that we haven’t been together in over a year, and future prospects were up in the air, I can understand the desire and need for more--wanting to move on. Still, given that recent conversations were normal, it was a surprise.

Being shocked by the extent of it--terminating the friendship, severing all ties, telling me I was now “blocked.”

Being texted with it all was the final blow.

Concern when this all came about a couple of weeks ago, my emotions have been mixed.

Concern over my other SO will fade with time.

Concern is more with my relationship with Bobby--my "Live and Die Guy" - https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=45569.0  (just as it should be).

With no replies and seeing posts at “What type of job do you have guys?” - https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=33055.0

I assume many of the occupations mentioned do require some type of college degree, and am quite surprised having no responses at “…your alma mater” - https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=44387.msg231269#msg231269

…my topic regarding such, given that most people–myself included--do take some pride in having earned one.

Walk into practically any professional establishment (offices of doctors and lawyers, being good examples) and you’ll find, proudly displayed among other such accolades, those college credentials.

Thinking the problem with my original post might be with the “where” in terms of one’s privacy, I decided to change the focus of the topic, making “where” less invasive.

Now, instead of “where” did you get yours…”where” do you stand regarding them--in other words…

What academic degree do you have?

Maybe you’re working towards one–a first, or another to add to your résumé.

Perhaps you’re just good without one.

So, when it comes to Academic Degrees, where are you?

      Associate
      Bachelor
      Master
      Doctoral
      “Experience-based”

“Experience-based degrees are professional degrees offered…where college credits are given to recipients for certain years of practical life experience…in different countries based on their educational standards.” - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classification_of_Academic_Degrees

(Multiple votes allowed so vote accordingly to what fits your situation–got two Bachelor Degrees, select "Multiple Bachelor", an Associate and Bachelor, then one for each, and so on. Of course, still feel free to give a shout out to your alma mater!--GO BEARS!)

      https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~katster/gobears.html

Somewhat ironic, with a BA in Psychology from Cal, along with a BFA in Interior Design–my last employment positions were "caterer" (food deliverer) for Boston Market, and personal attendant for a couple of guys–a paraplegic, and a quadriplegic--never having used the Psych degree, and spending maybe 5 years tops in the design and architecture fields.
