    • RE: Can i lose weight with diet alone?

      I've tried a mixture of both.  A good friend had a copy of The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss, which I quickly read through a couple of hours. The author claims it's all diet, but understanding how your body responds to hunger requires understanding a lot of factors.

      Either way, when I was younger I tried a keto diet and dropped 35 pounds in five weeks. The accelerated rate of weight loss lessened after that initial bump.

      I'm personally a fan of diet and exercise. But I strongly encourage constant work, lifestyle changes, and working on practical results. So many of the models of what we should look like are unrealistic for most people.

      Hmm…I do think the lead singer of 1975 is known for courting controversy...willingly.

      I saw "Paris is Burning" on VHS in the 90s. My mom rented it. She had no clue what she was getting into. Muhahahaha!

      Eh you're screwed. You're best finding some good fantasy porn and a consensual partner in a fetish circle.

      I like Puzzles. The Plants vs. Zombies series is fun, so is Threes, and recently my bf got me into MiniMetro.

    • RE: What song is playing in your mind right now?

      I listened to a few dozen renditions of "Pie Jesu" from Durufle's Requiem on Spotify.  There's some sopranos who hit the high note during the climax of the song with such great skill; it gives me chills.

      Facts! Need a big bathroom.

      @OklaBalmore:

      Nope, not my thing.
      I'd surely need a big bathroom for that if I were into that though  😕

    • RE: Would You Be Straight if You Had The Choice?

      Woo, thanks for the honesty. I'm black and masc. I think I like my queerness (and my pansexuality), but it's often not read as visible as race and gender. Undeniably, that's given me a degree of privilege within black and non-black communities.

      @Domosuke:

      I would yes.

      Because I'm black as well.

      I feel being black and gay, I'm forced to pick a side. As usually the gay media circuit doesn't accept men who look like me. Most of the black and African cultures do not accept homosexuality at all. So it's tough trying to be under both of those tropes.

      For example, right now I'm picking my gay/queer side.

      But society sees me as a black man, and black men usually are supposed to be masculine and promote this straight image.

      I'm a feminine gay guy, so it's just so puzzling and confusing.

      Also I seem to be attracted and crush on straight men and straight agendas more than gay.

      I'd rather just be straight.

    • RE: Should I drink a shake before or after I workout or both?

      Agreed!  Once saw a dude pass out at our gym. He only drank a shake in the morning; didn't hydrate enough.  Water is life!

      @Spintendo:

      @landerkay:

      Which one is the best option?

      I believe that your focus should be on hydrating yourself before exercising in general, and that because the shake will hydrate you, having it before is your best option.

      Lots of people start their routines in a state of hypohydration, depriving themselves of liquids before they begin. Stover et al. examined the hydration status of recreational gym users prior to completing their normal exercise routine and found that 46% of them were hypohydrated. Volpe, Poule, and Bland examined the pre-practice hydration status in NCAA Division I athletes and found that 66% of them were hypohydrated.

      There seems to be a problem with people who erroneously believe that drinking anything before a workout "slows them down"– but they should know better. Saltin found that decreases in aerobic capacity occur through increases in cardiovascular strain, increases in heat strain, and increases in core and muscle temperature with as little as 2% hypohydration. If you're trying to decide whether to have the shake after because you believe it may slow you down before, then you may be inadvertently hypohydrating yourself, and if that's the case then you should take the shake before.

      But if you feel you're hydrated enough, then by all means have the shake after. Just remember that your endurance performance is also affected by ambient temperature and humidity, which in turn affect sweating and thus hypohydration, so the choice of environment should also influence when you drink the shake.

    • RE: How scared of coming out were you?

      Pretty cautious, not necessarily scared. I had my reasons and I wasn't convinced that I had to "come out", because I had a sneaking suspicion that the all those who believed so strongly in heteronormativity wouldn't get it. I was right. However, it feels good when family members, friends, or random strangers affirm my choices, whether they do so in private or in public.

    • RE: Fat -Shaming

      I'll agree, as well. Shaming speaks more of that person's insecurities.  Who knows?  Maybe they have some body issues that they often feel powerless to control, thus all the compensating and overcompensating at the gym.  That happens to me, a lot. But, I go to a gym that doesn't body shame people.  Incidentally, it's a MMA gym, so we all realize that the amateur and pro fighters who frequently attend are doing crazy (maybe even unhealthy) routines to keep themselves ready to fight. While the rest of us are just trying to be healthy.

      @raphjd:

      @motri:

      being a fat person myself. thankfully i haven't. it's actually rare for it to happen these days which your story surprised me off. maybe change gyms? because the culture there doesn't seem to be good

      I agree, look for another gym if possible.

      The gym I go to (people and staff) would never tolerate "fat shaming".    We're all there to get and keep fit.

      There's a much nicer gym across town but it's full of fuck heads, so it's not worth it.
