    • RE: What settings should I use to increase upload speed?

I looked at the peers lists of some of your seeding torrents and some show that you're connectible, and other that you're not.
That might not help you particularly at the moment, but it might be a start… maybe. I'm trying to think what might cause that, it's rather odd.

How many torrents do you have running in your torrent client? Try seeding torrents only for this tracker and see if your speed improves. I'm wondering if you have far more torrents from other trackers than you have from this one. It might have to do with the way your torrent client is queuing  torrents. Could be taking a long time to queue ones from this site, or not queuing very many, or the most beneficial ones.

    • RE: Beard oil

I prefer a good beard balm over beard oil. They seem to condition longer, at least for me, which is what I absolutely need, extra conditioning.
My beard hairs are thick, and tend to get dry which leads to breakage if I don't use a leave in conditioner. I've been using Honest Amish beard balms and beard soaps for a while now, they've done wonders for my beard! I like their Jep's Beard Balm and Heavy Duty Beard Balms, and their Slick Beard Soap. Their beard products will make your beard soft and manageable, and improve the hair quality. Any good beard oil or balm will.

    • RE: A VPN question

µTorrent wasn't the culprit when you got a letter, just a coincidence. That can happen no matter which client you use (standard torrent client).
No worries with a trustworthy VPN that allows file sharing and doesn't keep logs tho. 🙂
I use the Mac version of µTorrent.

Another vote for Private Internet Access. 🙂 I've been using them for quite a while now.
      https://www.privateinternetaccess.com

Port forwarding works great. Don't forward any ports on your router if you use one with PIA or another VPN with port forwarding, only enter the port# from the system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac) into your torrent client.

      1. Yes, ALL your traffic will be encrypted and run through the VPN…everything you do (chat, file share, web surfing, all).

      2. Yep, should work on any network you can connect to AFAIK, and no reconfiguration needed.

The VPN client that PIA provides also has a built in internet kill switch so NO traffic will run through your regular connection in case you disconnect from the VPN.

      Heres a couple shots of the Mac client;

It's not the browser you're using or your computer that's causing this abysmillard, the site is programmed that way so please don't drive yourself crazy trying to fix anything.  🙂

      How old are you?
I wouldn't worry about it if you're young and weight gain runs in your family. If so, you'll look back and miss the days you could pig out on anything you wanted to. 😉

I was the same when I was younger. Going to the gym and drinking protein drinks helped a lot.
These days tho, I can gain weight without even trying -lol.

    • RE: How do you hide your porn?

You can encrypt a folder and store your porn there, and kinda try to hide it as christiancc recommended.

If you share the computer, the safest bet is probably encrypted external drives I suppose (whole disk encrypted or at least the porn folder).

Try using a VPN or seedbox.

Private Internet Access is a good VPN with cheap membership, $3.33/mo if you pay for the whole year at once ($39.95/yr).

    • RE: New to MAC - help please

I just use Sophos too, read a lot of good things about it and it seems to work better than others as far as being light on resources (well, at least virusbarrier. had that installed but removed it after my subscription expired.). I haven't felt the need, yet, to install another AV because I've only been installing legit software lately and feel comfortable with Sophos alone for now to protect against flaws in 3rd party software. I'll probably try Avast later for secondary on demand scans but not enable live/active scan or whatever. Both have excellent detection rates from what I've read.

Onyx (Free) might have some of the features you're looking for as far as maintenance, it's very popular amongst Mac users; http://www.titanium.free.fr/index.php
AppCleaner (Free) and it seems to work pretty well for an uninstaller (got good reviews too), but it mainly detects the files installed after it was installed; http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
If you just move an app to the trash, most of the time all that's left behind is a small preference file and sometimes some other small files in the application support folder. If there's an installer for the app, it'll usually uninstaller on the .dmg. I've only come across a handful of apps that don't uninstall cleanly and leave junk all over the place, that's where an uninstaller comes in handy.
What other features are you looking for in a TuneUp Utilities type app? I know there's duplicate file finder apps, disk cleaners, file shredder is built in OS X (securely delete trash), no registry so don't need to clean that :), OS X is pretty good at optimizing itself, StartUp Optimizer = System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items, DiskDoctor = OS X Disk Utility and/or something like Disk Warrior if you want data recovery if a HDD starts failing. Dunno if there's something comparable for free or cheaper than Disk Warrior, didn't look.  Process Manager = OS X Activity Monitor.

I bought my RAM here; http://www.macsales.com/
      http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Literally less than half the price of Apple RAM. $400 for 16GB from the Apple Store, $197.99 from Other World Computing.

Cool, same computer. 🙂 I don't know about you but I'm pretty darn happy with my new iMac. 😄

Sorry for the late reply, BF problems and work, meant to reply yesterday.

Edit: I forgot to add that you can add your own functions to the right-click context menu through Automator IIRC, or another way I think. Also, a lot of apps have options to add or remove from the context  menu.

    • RE: New to MAC - help please

Congrats on your new iMac! 🙂
I just got one myself, a 27" i7 3.5 24GB RAM (ordered 16 more from OWC -very reputable Mac parts co, lifetime warranty, and half the price of Apple RAM) GeForce GTX 780 4GB VRAM 3TB Fussion Drive.

What do you want to do? Unlike the myths, there's an app for everything. I've never had a problem finding an app to do what I needed to do.

Right-click should work the same as Windows depending on which device you're using from I remember…which might not be much -lol (apple mouse or trackpad, or 3rd party mouse). Just enable it in the System Preferences and you won't have to Ctrl + click...System Preferences -> device (mouse or trackpad).

Little Snitch to block outgoing connections or allow them from certain apps/processes. It's an easy way to complete the OS X firewall. The OS X firewall only blocks or allows incoming connections by default.  So you'd have to install a more complicated firewall or open terminal and program the built-in firewall otherwise. Little Snitch and the default firewall give me everything I need. Comes in handy for crackz/warez/etc too, stopping them from phoning home and disabling.
      http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html

Popper already mentioned VLC, Mplayer is good too for when VLC occasionally doesn't play a file. With QT and Perian, VLC, and Mplayer I've been able to play just about anything.
Here is the newest version of Perian (I think, kinda forgot). Someone took over development because the original team stopped; https://github.com/MaddTheSane/perian/releases

I use Xee3 instead of Preview. It'll play GIFs unlike Preview, can look at images with in zips/rars/etc, and has more file compatibility.

      I like TextWrangler over TextEdit.

      For IRC, I use Textual.

For a regular chat client like for MSN, AIM, Jabber, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, etc, Adium was pretty good (I haven't been using any of those Chat networks lately).
      https://adium.im/

      What else? 🙂

Edit: Take time to learn OS X and you'll love it. 🙂 I've been a Mac user since mid 2006. At first, some things bummed me out and I was disappointed until I learned, and it turned out that my disappointments were just my ignorance to the new OS. Mostly tho, I was going, wow, that's cool. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a problem, well only one that I caused myself using TinkerTool…then I had to reinstall/restore OS X, the only time since. My old 2006 Mac Pro still runs fine, but slow. Don't defrag your hard drive, let OS X maintain it. It defrags smaller files on the fly (can't remember the size), especially if you have an SSD or fusion drive don't defrag. You also don't need to install an app to run system maintenance (daily/weekly/monthly), the system does a good job of taking care of itself.

I wonder what they'd have had me do if I couldn't have fixed my problem myself, and I wonder if they even know about that fix. :-
I'll write them when I get a chance (and remember -lol). You should do the same if you ever find out what's up with your connection. 🙂
There has to be some other people who have the same problem as you.

Maybe try testing by stopping your firewall if you use one. If that works, then you can find the correct file to add and allow.
I found my fix on the PIA forum after doing several searches. Try looking there, and if you can't find anything start a thread.
Hopefully you can get it fixed, it's a good service. They should add a bit more info for such fixes in their client support area/FAQ so they're easily visible.

I had some connection problems when I first started using PIA, but found a fix for Mac users and it's been working great ever since.
A similar fix might work on Windows, dunno. Without the fix I eventually couldn't connect, with the fix I connect fast and never seem to drop the connection -rock solid.

    • RE: VPN PrivateInternetAccess

At first I had some connection problems where it wouldn't connect at all eventually.
On a Mac the fix was to add a specific file to the firewall and allow all connections.
From Finder select Go -> Go  to Folder -> enter /private/tmp
Open the firewall and drag the file pia_openvpn to the rules area and "Allow incoming connections".

That fixed the my problem and PIA has been working great for me ever since. 🙂

Maybe a similar fix will work for Windows?

      @trukr:

since i'm lazy when i'm tired, and i'm tired A LOT, i'll be using this…A LOT. 🙂 found some stuff already. 🙂

maybe an option in the profile to change the default way search currently works?
default is browse so people who don't read this thread (even if they look at it -lol) won't cry about pic browser, option is to restore search to it's default behavior.
checked categories are saved, but not active if the setting is to default (old) search version.

why? people can get aware of it, and if they not like it or need to search something switch over to the old way while clicking on "search"

before "search" and "browse" lead to the same script.

one thing is still different: search opened the browse page with no pre-selected categories from profile, while browse took them from users profile.

Well, I guueees the "Show all" link does work for removing pre-selected categories. 🙂
