    • RE: Help with getting my VPN to work with gaytorrent tracker

The torrents from GayTorrent.ru using the VPN are started, not queued?

If you select the torrent and look under the "Trackers" tab, what is the status in the line with the tracker announce URL?

Can you go to the Windows Start menu > All programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > type ping tracker.gaytorrent.tw in the window which opens. It should make 4 trials with result timeout. There is an indication which IP has been pinged, which IP is shown?

If a torrent has been deleted, you should see a "unregistered torrent" failure in your torrent client, not a connection has been refused.

Anyway, besides other possible reasons, there are two likely for a seed torrent to be removed:

1/ Duplicate to another older torrent, on which you could "jump-on" reseeding if it contains the exact same file(s)

2/ DMCA Takedown Notice from the copyright owner or his agent(s) alleging copyright infringement.

      @chazzer69:

I have the same problem.  Torrents/trackers from other sites will continue to seed after I've completed my download and give me good ratios.  I tend to think there is just a different type of user for this site and for some reason the demand is not that high.  Which is very odd as, of the four sites I visit for torrents, this one has by far the largest offering.

Or the site owners have found a way to get people to donate to get their ratios up and not lose access by managing traffic…but that's just a conspiracy theory.  Doubt that would happen.

Actually it is a side effect of high minimum ratio requirement: This leads to members really keeping seeding long and not to stop the torrent as soon as the download is complete. Therefore there is more "competition" in seeding and it is more difficult for each to upload.

Then the high ratio requirements lead too more offering too ( about 2.5x than the closest competitor in the gay torrents niche). Due to the high ratio requirements, members consider twice to download and these downloads split up on more offers. result: less downloads per torrent.

Members need to understand that their download will improve the ratio of someone else, who then can download more. We need more downloads!

      @hornynyc:

Like I mentioned before only gaytorrent.ru torrents are not seeding.  The rest are fine.  How could this be a Transmission issue.  They are connected but there are no peers or traffic

Spintendo answered already on the part /b of your issue, which isn't Transmission or technically Tracker related. It is just a question of offer and demand. Your Transmission is "seeding" (offer) torrents where on most is currently no downloader (demand). Then there is no upload (seeding) of data on these possible. To upload, someone else needs to download.

The part a/ is Transmission and computer set-up related an makes your situation worse. Your torrent client programme Transmission is not connectible. That means, that on the few torrents it seeds where are downloader, their requests sent to your Transmission won't reach it. So your Transmission can't answer and establish a connection with that downloader's torrent client programme.

As there are many other seeder, the downloader will get what he needs from those which are connectible and when your Transmission is offering periodically parts, the downloader's torrent client programme is likely busy downloading from others already and refuse the offer.

That is where the Transmission help becomes important, as it will certainly give support in how to test connectivity, set-up UPnP and/or port-forwarding and make a firewall exception for incoming connections on the port set in Transmission's connection setting.

Remark: Transmission is a good and popular Torrent client with Mac OSX and GNU / Linux users. Unfortunately I've no first hand experience with it and are not of great help to explain who to make it connectible, especially on OSX.

And for Windows XP?  Yes, some of us out here are still using XP

Same than Vista and 7. Actually it is even simpler, because the it works even without the "run as administrator" (less secure OS).
I've added XP to the list of Windows systems.

      @Redssmoker02:

Sorry, but not finding any of this information useful.  Been over a week since ! last download from GT.  Today all trackers for files I'm trying to download say: offline (timed out).  Have cleared my DNS cache, reset modem, re opened uTorrent, updated trackers, but still no luck.

Can anybody explain how to fix this to a non tech savvy person??

Please look to my earlier post about changing the hosts file entries, if there are any for gaytorrent:

      Mac OSX / GNU Linux:
For that, in the Terminal type:

      sudo nano /etc/hosts

It will ask for your admin password…

Make the changes and press: ctrl-x, Y and finally Enter to save

      Windows Vista and 7:
1/ In the Start menu select Accessories > right click on Notepad and select to start as administrator
      2/ In the Notepad select File > Open > navigate to C:/ > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc
3/ Select in Notepad to show all files bottom right instead .txt files only, open the hosts file you'll see

If you see entries for gaytorrent.ru and gtru.net, just put an # sign in front of them or delete those line.

Save the file, which will only possible if you opened notepad with right mouse click as administrator as said upstairs.

ATTENTION: Do NOT touch any other entries, wrong manipulation may result in loosing internet navigation.

Remark: A member reported that his anti-virus software was preventing him to change the hosts file and he had to temporary disable the real-time protection.

Your torrents appear in your Profile as seeding, so that is another issue, nothing to do with the hosts file, which are very common:

      a/ Torrent client not connectible
      b/ Lack of downloading peers

For the first issue, consult the help of your Transmission.

    • RE: Resolution restrictions and postings.

To note: This is my personal view and not a GayTorrent.ru official view.

The opening topic got two aspects:

First, banning torrents for low definition video content. Similar to cannonmc, I think that would make many classic and vintage movies unavailable. Something which should be avoided.

What disturbs me more than classic or vintage low definition tape to digital file transfers, where I know as a collector not to get DVD quality, are uploads of recent HD productions in low (and macro blocked) definition from tube site downloads!

Second, to make it mandatory to indicate the definition in the description. Here personally I'd like to get the definition indicate. However, seeing the difficulties to get better descriptions on uploads made on moderators requests by the uploaders, trying to get them added after upload seems fruitless efforts. Deleting uploads without the information isn't an option either.

Then GayTorrent.ru tries to encourage sharing. This starts from the minimum share ratio requirements, the additional daily .torrent file permissions for uploads, the bonus points attributed to the uploader when voting additional categories for his torrents to the huge bonus points award for getting successfully through the difficulties of uploading a first own torrent.

Making strict mandatory minimum description would only be contra productive. For example common movie consumers don't know (to use) MediaInfo to reveal information about definition, codec and profile, bit and frame rates. Those users, which I believe are the majority of members here, will then be excluded from sharing own torrent's content.

Therefore I work rather into the direction of description guidelines (i.e. not mandatory rules), giving to uploaders a framework of what should be done. Our upload guide gives already quite a number of hints:

      5.   TheTorrent Name should be given a title that reflects the content of the torrent. This might include title, studio, actors, movie number, format and/or resolution. The title inserted here will appear in the Browse Page and on the top of the torrent's description page. Themed Movie torrent names should contain the title and the production year in parentheses ( ). If you are uploading a collection, please follow upload collection rules to clearly define the theme and the degree of completeness.

Note: Do not use comment expressions in the title, such as "hot" or "must see."

      and

      8. Description: Please provide as much information as possible about the torrent's data files and their content.

      Title & Studio
         Cast
         Release Date or Year
         Runtime (e.g., 01:19:01)
Content synopsis - self made or search the internet to find something
Technical Information about Video File(s): Resolution (720p), Codec (.MP4, .AVI, .MKV, etc. . )
For Gay Themed Movies & TV Episodes, indicate the spoken and subtitle languages
For Collections, list the files included as "File List"
         Search Tags to better define genres of special interest: ~comedy , ~dildo, ~gloryhole, ~smoker, ~tatoos, ~outdoors, ~huge dicks
Personal comments or seed bonus point requests should be added at the bottom, after the main information above.

Note: Given our international membership, GayTorrent.ru makes an effort to support multiple languages. Please at least contain some English so all members may understand the general content of your upload.

(Remark: the term resolution is wrong, it is Definition for the given example and same for Codec, it is Format (digital file container format) for the given examples. Something to be corrected.)

This is a recurrent request and there are continued internal discussions of what can be done to improve the situation, without the negative effects to the sharing of (gay) culture and knowledge. Some ideas are:

      • Adding field to the upload form and QTM, so that have a better probability the uploader adds the information
      • User contribution to descriptions to improve them with point rewards, quite similar to additional picture upload. Already today members having downloaded the torrent's content files can give additional information by making comments

Unfortunately, in difference to tube sites, we don't have the movie files and therefore can't automatically inspect the movie files to reveal the technical information.

My personal conclusion is that for the near future we have to life with the status quo.

    • RE: Utorrent and Bittorrent problems

First thing: What ever your Profile privacy setting on GayTorrent.ru is, including the lowest "normal" (lower than "low"), only you and torrent staff can see your torrent activity. As well registration e-mail and login or torrent client IPs are visible only to very few of the staff, most staff can't see them.

Regarding the display of the peer IPs in the torrent client:

      • "Normal" user can't do much with an IP, most likely they get only information who your ISP is when trying to search it.
      • "Professional" spies will use special versions of torrent clients if normal version won't display IPs, if they don't do it already

The problem with torrents is that the client programme needs to know the other peers IPs to connect to them. Independently from if they display the IP or not. Not displaying the IP might only lead users to think it is invisible, but it isn't. Any client connected to a tracker or a swarm (via DHT for example) will know the IPs of the other peers.

If you are concerned about your privacy and don't want to stp using torrents, invest in a VPN service. Many members here say good about PrivateInternetAccess (40 USD / year). Note the VPN service can know all your traffic (but that doesn't mean it is logging it). So you have to trust that service provider …
