    • RE: Squeezing other people out

If we leave out from the equitation the upload generated by exchange of seed bonus points and through ratio cheating, only what is downloaded can be uploaded and vice versa. Upload = Download.

Therefore if someone is uploading much more than he downloads, it means at the same time that others will have to upload less than they downloaded. In this sense, extreme high share ratios aren't desirable (mine could for example been seen as too high).

There are other aspects to consider though, for example:

      • Some members spend considerable storage size, computer running time and internet access bandwidth to keep old torrents available for years. This isn't "free" of cost and the resulting share ratio hardly earned.

        • Prolific uploader of own new torrents will mechanically improve their share ratio, because on these they haven't downloaded anything and generate only upload

Both examples show, that a high share ratio isn't necessary the result of "bad" behaviour and could be called "overseeding" in the sense of doing too much.

My experience as moderator shows that in most cases of ratio issues, it is a misunderstanding of how ratio works and the required seeding durations vs download durations.

    • RE: Upcoming Changes to the Upload Rules

The wording is the result of an intensive team work, so I thank you in the name of the team for these nice words. It is supposed the "final" version. This topic, however, gives a chance to the community to add it's views and concerns, if any.

The background on the Rules page is darker and the contrast with the yellow used on bold links better than here in the forum with the lighter grey background. More like:

    • RE: Upcoming Changes to the Upload Rules

There is nothing really new. The changes rather put in form the current practice to serve as the reference. Therefore you can consider them already as in force for moderation work.

Rules 3. and 11. are the result of long internal discussions about the formulation and the coverage. They should be seen as the minimal mandatory requirements. It is clear that many would like to have the mandatory requirements going beyond these still quite general ones.

Unless there are major concerns about the wording and meaning, these changes will be implemented the upcoming weekend and after, step by step. Sorry the editor is slow.

    • RE: My Best Friend's Dad Videos

You should carefully study the right border of the original picture uploaded (on your PC, not the picture here). It got the same type of visible watermark of the subscriber than used by English Lads. They might use the same invisible watermarking of the video files downloaded by subscribers from their site as English Lads, too.

I can only recommend not to share videos downloaded from a website as subscriber, unless their TOS allow it.

    • Upcoming Changes to the Upload Rules

To address some recurrent issues with the torrents' presentations GayTorrent.ru's Uploading Rules are going to be amended. Further Guidelines are provided by the Upload Guide.

      Here the amended Rules Draft
      [box title=Amended Uploading Rules]

      • Do not submit BANNED material. A list of all currently banned material is located here. If you submit banned material you will receive a warning () that temporarily prevents downloading for a specified period of time. Repeat infringers will be banned.

      • DUPLICATE files are not allowed and will be removed. You are expected to run a search for duplicates prior to submitting a torrent. Duplicates may be accepted when part of a themed collection. A file is considered a duplicate if an existing torrent has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder.

      • Porn, not in original DVD Video format, with mainly sexual or fetish interaction involving women must be placed in the Straight older, Straight younger or Bisexual categories.

      • If you are unable to seed a new upload, don't submit it until you can. If you are unable to continuously seed, please state so in the comment section of your upload to inform other users of the delay. You MUST CONTINUE SEEDING YOUR TORRENT until at least three or four other members have completely downloaded the file and can continue seeding for you. If you do not seed your upload within 3 days, it will be deleted and need to be resubmitted.

      • Upload only ONE NEW TORRENT AT A TIME in order to initially seed your upload as fast as possible. If multiple torrents are uploaded, they MUST be completed within 24 hours.

      • All non-porn material must have LGBTQ THEMED CONTENT (Plot / Characters) or involve VOYEURISM of the ADULT MALE PHYSIQUE . Gay-interest, an openly gay actor or minor gay characters are insufficient to meet this requirement. Do NOT upload any themed movies that are released/produced by mainstream cinema / TV studios (see banned list). Examples of voyeuristic material include bodybuilding, wrestling and underwear/swimwear.

      • Uploading Music, Music Videos, Mainstream TV Broadcasts, Mainstream Movies, Video Games and Commercial Applications are prohibited.

      • Do not upload VIDEO packed in archives (zip, rar, …), password protected files, or material that needs to acquire a license for playing

      • A COLLECTION is a group of files that have a well-defined common theme.

        • The Title must specify the theme and the degree of completeness (all videos from 2010-2011; full site rip or complete as of a specific month/year; videos from a studio or featuring an actor; numerical series 100-200, 301-499; alphabetical listings of A-C, D-F; n number of clips of a particular porn theme; etc).

        • The description must contain a list of all video files or titles, by at least copy/paste the torrent’s file list. Please list video files and titles available through other existing torrents with links to their descriptions.

        • A collection may overlap with another collection if it has a different central theme. For example, a collection may include a studio series from #201 to #239; with some duplicate files found in a collection about a specific actor; or a resubmission of a site rip after 3 months in order to keep it updated.

      • We only allow exact copies of DVD Videos in image file (.iso, .img) or DVD folder structure (.vob) format so the downloader can keep it in it's original format or convert it to another file type with little quality loss.

        • Do NOT upload other file formats (avi, wmv, mpeg, mp4, etc) which were converted into DVD Video.

        • All DVD Video uploads must be put in the DVD-R categories regardless of it's content.

        • If you knowingly post a DVD that has been shrunk (ie. from DVD9 to DVD5 or dual layer to standard DVD) then you should make a note of that in the description box.

      • Any information, e.g. the title, categories, pictures and description must correctly represent the content of the files shared with the torrent and avoid misleading members about the content. This applies as well to additions, votes or comments made by other members than the original uploader. In doubt, rather than providing wrong information, omit it.

        • At least one good quality picture is mandatory for the torrent presentation.

        • Torrents in the Themed Movie and TV / Episodes categories need to indicate the audio language(s) and, if present, the subtitle language(s), including if optional, forced or hardcoded in the video.

        • Descriptions in the title such as "Hot!", "Must See!", "Best Ever!", "New' or "Latest" are unacceptable. The comment area is the only appropriate place to give your personal opinion of the content or otherwise make personal requests. Include the release date, rather than "New", "Latest", etc. …

        • Do not plead for bonus seed points in the description area.
Remark: Please provide as much information as possible. For details read the Guidelines in the Upload Guide.

      • Questions regarding these requirements may be answered by reading our Upload-Guide and the FAQ. If you have further questions, write the Helpdesk.

      [/box]

      Changes explained:

Most important are the additional rule 3. and the additions to rule 11. Other changes are rather fine-tuning of existing rules or spelling corrections.

      3. Torrents for straight and bisexual porn got regularly reported offending members if placed in other porn categories such as mature, anal etc. This new rule 3. ensures that the Profile filter setting to show such porn or not works correctly.

      8. Correction of spelling mistake, only

      9. Emphasis put on collections to have a well-defined common themes, by making it bold. The word "random" in the examples has been replaced by "n number of clips", because a collection are not random files put into a pack, but file collected together because they have the same well defined theme. In the same sense "category" has been replaced by "theme" (in reference to well-defined common theme). The word category could mislead to be understood as one of GayTorrent.ru's categories, which are to large to make up for a well-defined common theme. All this is to better convey the idea of collection, in opposite to packs.

Besides the semantics to replace "any" by "all", the requirement of "including their formats and file sizes" has been removed. Of course still the easiest way to generate the file list is to copy/paste the torrent's file list and eliminate the not important files, which will then include format and size. This is to accommodate for those members who take the care to list all the titles with a short description of their content. It would be wrong to "force" them to add in addition a copy of the file list to meet the rules. The sense of listing the files or titles is to make them searchable with our search.

      10. Besides minor spelling changes, "DVD-R" has been replaced by "DVD Video" (except for the category name), because DVD-R is a media and not a digital file container format and structure. "Categories" is now plural because there are now two catgories: "DVD-R" and "DVD-R Non-Porn".

      11. The first paragraph simply tries to define that the information shall "right" to the content shared, rather than "wrong". This addresses many issues seen with uploaded torrent presentations, such as title, description, pictures or shared not matching each other, wrong category etc … Then follow more specific requirements.

The one picture was basically already imposed by the upload form and QTM, but nevertheless frequently torrents are uploaded not having a picture. It is to remarked that this is something easy to correct and GayTorrent.ru's community can help with missing pictures by adding them, e.g. taking screenshots after download. If pictures are wrong, it is helpful to add correct pictures and then report the wrong. Without added right, all staff can do is to remove the wrong or been left in doubt if the report is correct ...

The good quality is rather vague, perhaps something to drop from the final version. A first idea is that landscape pictures should have at least a width of 300 pixel, or if lower the definition of the video, and portrait pictures of 180 pixel. Of course they should not be up-scaled from smaller pictures, which makes them unsharp.

GayTorrent.ru's community members are from all over the world. It is not self going which languages a movie got and if there are subtitles. Modern digital file container formats such as .mp4 and .mkv can include multiple language tracks and subtitles. It is important to the members to be able to know if they will be able to understand the movies dialogues before having downloaded the movie.

The restriction to file names has been removed, but attention, if no title is entered, it will be taken from the file/folder name, which than must not have such mentions. The "New" and "Latest" mentions are added. These become obsolete / wrong already shortly after the upload. Indicating the release date will remain correct over the time.

Our Upload Guide gives rather detailed Guidelines of kind of information which is desired in a torrent presentation. Again, if a torrent got rather brief information, the community can help with missing information, a review or a link in a comment to the torrent. The uploader has already done the most important thing: He shares culture and knowledge for free. Rather tah complaining, the community should strive to make it better. Together GayTorrent.ru will become bigger, better, boner!

      12. Simplified sentences and reference to the FAQ added.

Here as reference the current Uploading Rules

deactivate all, except one account there > https://www.gaytorrent.ru/delacct.php
and then reactivate rights on the remaining there > https://www.gaytorrent.ru/reactivate.php

(Remark: It is recommended to keep the older account, which will make reseeding easier. In case a member believes to be warned not justified, he should write to the Helpdesk).

An average upload rate of nearly 50 KBytes/s is good for an ADSL connection (if that is what you've got). The port is not important, as long as you aren't using a port reserved for specific usages and it is forwared correctly from your modem to your computer.

That can be tested in µTorrent > Options Setup Guide > select the "Network" test and run it. The result should be a green check sign.

    • RE: When is a duplicate torrent not a duplicate torrent?

I confirm, that is a duplicate as how we see our rules. The 4 missing (or additional) images don't make up for enough difference.

Our rules allow duplicates with collections. Nevertheless then conditions must apply:

      • Different well defined common theme
      • Not a subset of an elder collection, unless update of a running series after 3 months
      • Single movie/clip torrent part of collection(s) or taken out

None of above applies in this case.

There are cases where multiple video file torrents are not considered collections:

      • Multiple discs sets (typically 2 discs sets)
      • A movie split in scenes vs the full movie in one file
      • A movie file split in short chunks vs one file

I'd like to add, that often "collections" lack a well defined common theme and are rather random packs. We currently don't run a "hard" line against such torrents, but those packs is not what was intended to allow by removing file number and size restrictions. There will be a change soon or later …

The other "fix" would be members to download more.

This is a typical issue with µTorrent 3.4.1 builds and as far as we see not limited to GayTorrent.ru.

At the moment the best would be you downgrade to version 3.3.10, 2.2.1 or try the latest stable build of µTorrent 3.4.1, which might include a solution for this issue.

Frankly, I am not in favour of the indications just by one letter like "(O)" and "(H)", because unless members read the Guides, Guidelines F.A.Q. or Rules they won't know for what that stands. I am thinking here especially to the majority of just downloading and seeding peers, less to the uploaders of own torrents.

What I am looking for a short words saying "optional" and "hardcoded", easy to understand without additional explanations necessary.

There had been started an internal staff discussion to simplify the language indication. It is on hold since the initiating moderator quit the team and might be brought to it's final conclusion when other more priority subjects.

Indicating languages in their native writing would at least shorten the indication. 🙂

    • RE: Incomplete DVDR torrent uploaded by Anonymous

Such cases can still be reported as "playback" issues. The staff will then verify the report and if the issue is confirmed remove the torrent* and contact the uploader.

In this case the suggestion to the uploader would be to make another torrent with the missing file(s) added. If the folder structure and other file names are maintained, a jump-on like for reseed of members having the other torrent's files will then be possible.

      • = if something is wrong with the file(s) in the torrent's file list, a new torrent is needed to share changed file(s). It can't be edited.

The picture uploaded to the site "Profile" page will show only on your Profile page and aside comments you make to torrents.

The forum "Profile" page is a little hidden. Visit the "Forum" from the blue menu band. There should be a welcome with your name on top of the forum pages (below the main site header); Below that Welcome is another blue menu band with forum function. There is another "Profile". On that forum Profile, you can set to upload a picture or a link to a picture on the web. You can link to the same picture you've uploaded for the site Profile. That picture will be shown aside your forum posts.

To the defence of the topic opener, I must admit to have contributed to the issue. When looking through the list of pending reports, I've seen two reports of the torrent made by the same member and didn't take the time to read both report text completely (just diagonally) and deleted one of the two in the impression it being a double report for the same issue. That was apparently the "not LGBTQ themed" report. So the moderator handling the torrent report, saw only the remaining "mainstream" report.

Regarding what is mainstream and what not, there will be soon an internal clarification (I hope at least), which may follow a rewording of the rules. I fear it will be rather restrictive.

It got finally pulled … not really a good example for a decision process about a report. I guess the "...
