    • RE: Occused of illegal downloading from gaytorrent by flavaworks

Under Canadian law, we have established a president on the matter. An IP address alone from a pool of peers is not sufficient information to be able to lay any sort of charge or claim, or otherwise get any sort of court order for customer information for one simple reason… While an IP address may identify the subscriber to the internet service, this does not absolutely mean that the subscriber of the internet service was the end-user of the device that performed the infringing actions. Such is often the case with a shared WiFi network, or in homes with multiple family members. You will only have one registered subscriber, however there can be any number of people whom could have been using the service.

My best advice would be to refer to a lawyer to see about the applicable laws and options available for your country.

    • RE: Why when I use VPN I don't get Upload Ratio?

Another thing to consider is that not all VPN services are the same. You need to make sure that you are using a VPN that supports port forwarding for ALL ports, or that at least supports ONE port and that your torrent client is configured to use that ONE port. This is a critical, yet often overlooked step necessary to be able to get upload traffic.

What CAN and should be removed are those damn snowflakes…this is the middle of February.

I take it you've never been to Canada in February, eh?

I'm not sure about what part of the world you're in, but in my part of the world, the snow is most certainly not done with. 😉

    • RE: Help - VPN for dummies?

      @d0m1n1k:

I'm an even bigger dummy…this is probably a a stupid question, but I've spent the last 2 hours trying to find an answer....how do you use a VPN?

I currently have the free Hola VPN and the free VPN that comes with the Opera browser. I know those probably aren't the best for whatever reason (though I'm not sure on any details)...but even if I were to buy one, how do you even use it? Do you just turn it on on the browser you use to download a torrent file? Or is it important to keep it on while you are downloading/seeding videos? Or is it more complicated- do you have to like press buttons and stuff on your uTorrent application? Or is it something else?

OR PERHAPS someone might just redirect me to an article/video/post about using VPN for porn for NOOBS like me?

Usually you install the VPN app for the provider you are using. After you have started your computer, you can open the VPN app (if it doesn't open on startup), then choose what server you want to connect to. Once the VPN is connected, all your traffic is sent through the VPN until you disconnect from the VPN again. It is a separate app from any browser that you may be using and ALL internet traffic is sent through it when it is turned on.

    • RE: Impossible to increase ratio

Sorry to chyme in so late, but I think there's a key factor that may be getting overlooked here. You need to make sure that the port number that your torrent client uses is forwarded through your router or VPN to your computer. Without this, getting any upload traffic can be quite problematic.

Yes… Click on "Show Seeding Torrents" instead.

That being said, it is likely that you are seeding a number of torrents that are pending deletion for being duplicates. I will go through your profile and see if I can purge these for you.

    • RE: Reseed Etiquette Questions

Also, take into account the fact that port forwarding is CRITICAL for our tracker. If the port your torrent client uses is not forwarded through your router or VPN to your computer, both in TCP and UDP, you will have a plethora of troubles trying to get any upload traffic, especially if there are other active and connectable peers in the pool.

I cannot stress the importance of this enough.

    • RE: How to get upload

There are a few things to take into account… First and foremost, you need to make sure that the port that your torrent client uses is forwarded through your router or VPN to your computer, both in TCP and in UDP. This is an often overlooked, but very important step necessary to get proper upload traffic.

Second, just leave your torrent client running and the torrents active. They should seed on their own once downloaded, as long as you leave everything running.

    • RE: Default Torrents
      1. These are usually torrents which have been removed from public view, most often because they are duplicates. Rather than deleting them outright, we move them out of public sight so that the current leechers can finish downloading them.

      2. There is a way, however due to a bug in the search, it makes the search not behave properly if you're doing an actual search

    • RE: Uploading value!

Your torrent client only updates with the tracker once every 30 minutes. Please be patient and you will notice your stats update over time. As well, please DO NOT stop your torrent client, as this can cause all data since the last tracker update to be lost.

    • RE: Breath new Life into the Dead

There are a few things I would recommend for your situation.

      1. I strongly recommend that you get a VPN service such as PrivateVPN.

This will not only keep your identity away from copyright trolls, but it will also add a layer of protection to connections coming from your computer, to such a point where even your ISP cannot see what you are doing online. Because of this, you can bypass the throttling mechanisms that your particular ISP puts into place. Most importantly, it will help you avoid getting notices from copyright trolls, which can become rather costly.

      1. Don't worry about the duplicates.

We are currently not penalizing people for duplicates other than to have their duplicate torrent removed because we are well aware that searching for the original is not always an easy task, especially considering that the originals are not always properly labelled in the first place.

      1. You're welcome!

I took the liberty of going through your profile and putting a freeleech on the large torrents that you are downloading so that they do not count against your ratio, and will also go through your profile and freeleech and/or promote other torrents that qualify for it to help optimize your upload traffic. As well, I left you a rather generous SBP donation (given your account history) as a way of thanking you for making a genuine effort at contributing to the site. This should help solve your immediate situation.

    • RE: Red up arrow? Utorrent

If you get an unregistered torrent error, yes… It is permanent. If however you get something like an HTTP 502 (bad gateway) or offline (timed out), these usually resolve themselves on their own, which would be the case for the times you've experienced the problem.

    • RE: Ratio difficulty

      @afootytop:

One other question if I may.

My torrent client, uTorrentPro 3.5.5, shows one torrent has an upload to download ration of 3.101 which on a file of 2.23GB gives just over 6.5GB uploaded.

My profile stats for the same torrent says 30.84MB upload. I understand that there can be a discrepancy between client and tracker, but a missing 6GB seems a trifle excessive.

This has been the case for almost one week at time of posting (6 days, 14 hours). What can I do to rectify this please?

FWIW, most torrent clients show the total stats since the torrent was added to the torrent client. The stats you see on the site on the other hand will only show the total stats for the active session. If for some reason you stop the torrent, then restart it, close your torrent client, reboot your computer, etc. these stats will reset back to zero once you start seeding the torrent again. As well, there's the fact that your torrent client only updates with the tracker once every 30 minutes per torrent. Stopping the torrent at any point can cause any data since the last tracker update to be lost.

    • RE: Ratio difficulty

I see that there are no leechers on the torrents you're seeding. I can help with that by sprucing things up a bit for you.

With that being said, it is also important to make sure that you have the port that your torrent client uses forwarded in your router to your computer, both in TCP and in UDP. This is a critical, yet often overlooked step, which with our tracker, will make a huge difference.

    • RE: Ratio difficulty

Just an FYI… That "someone" who has been going on mini freeleech binges is usually me. I look through torrents at random and look for ones that meet certain criteria to be able to help bring them back to life before they die. This is often a much needed boost for one or more users, as a lot of the torrents are being seeded by people who need the ratio boost, however there are no leechers downloading their torrents, and therefore, no upload traffic possible.

See... Leechers are an incredibly important part to increasing one's ratio. If there are no leechers, there is no upload activity... plain and simple.

@lololulu19: You're one such user whose profile I have gone through and "spruced things up" a little. 😉
