    • Married to a woman

      This is a very complex issue.. which means it is subject to people's assumptions.  I am looking for real data as best as can be obtained with a small sampling of responders.

      I've heard various statistics such as anywhere between 2% - 11% of people are gay.  Up to 35% are bi-sexual.  Most gay people don't identify as being gay until the age of 28.

      In my younger days, I used to do freelance computer support.  One place I did a lot of work was a hair salon.  They had 14 employees, 12 of whom were gay men, one straight guy, and one woman.  Of the 12 gay guys, only ONE of them did not have children.  They all had been married at one point and divorced.

      @Frederick:

      Otto Warmbier, the student who went to North Korea as part of a group of tourists.. and was imprisoned for stealing a poster from his hotel.. tortured, and remained in a coma for over a year.. and returned to the USA days ago.. has died.

      Imagine in hotels in the USA did that to people who stole towels!

      Something I wonder about..
      Why was there a camera pointed at the poster in that hotel.
      Why did the people in the hotel report such a petty theft?

      @pppucci:

      Hard to comment since you give no clue about what the story is about.  The only thing I can offer is that major news outlets often rely on news services for their reporting, especially in other countries.  It is usually attributed such as AP, UPI or Rueters.  More details?

      Oh.. I see what you are saying.  Yes, reporters used to rely heavily upon information from AP, UPI or Rueters.    What I am referring to is quite different.  Reporters at one horrible news outlet copying information from reporters at another horrible news outlet (or even from within the same news outlet).  Sort of like the National Examiner getting their information from the National Enquirer.  "Yes, the government has captured a dozen aliens from a crashed UFO.  10 of them were 9 foot tall bigfoots, led by a clone of Hitler, and the captain of the ship was the real Elvis - who is not dead!  We got this story from the Weekly World News.. so it MUST be true!"

      The story I am referencing would take too long to explain.  The story itself is not relevant to this topic.  It takes place in Canada.  Very few people are aware of this, but most of the media in Canada is controlled by FRANCE!  Their biggest news outlet, which has a veritable monopoly on the media in Canada - is the TVA - which is owned by France!

      @flozen:

      While it appears that most (of the dwindling number of) posters in Politics & Debate would like to see more civility, I'm afraid that the discussion has been sidetracked by all the back and forth about one poster's choice of graphics.

      I was hoping that the thread would open a discussion on HOW to actually achieve more civility.  The current, largely unmanaged and consequence-free state of affairs here is unlike any I have encountered on other gay sites (torrent or otherwise) that engage in political discourse.

      Is it any wonder that so few GT members choose to participate here?

      That is nonsense.  This "Politics & Debate" group has far more participation that any of the other groups other than "Sex & Relationships", "Jokes", and "Chit Chat" which are all generic groups.
      The liberals are being called out for their misinformation, bias, and outright lies so much that they are growing weary of posting volumes of new garbage.  That is why the activity drops.  If they can't have it their way - they stomp their feet and go home, like spoiled little children.

      MATAL, INTERIM DIRECTOR, UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE v. TAM, (2017) No. 15-1293

      See more at:   http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-supreme-court/15-1293.html#sthash.mHieS4Eb.dpuf

      In a unanimous vote, the US Supreme Court ruled against liberals when it comes to free speech.

      "Offensive" logos (trademarks) are protected under free speech.

      While this case had nothing to do DIRECTLY with Dick Gregory's autobiography NIGGER, if the case had gone the other way, the book would either be banned or forced to recall them and change the name/cover.

      Hate speech is protected speech.

      If they outlawed the "n-word" it would put all the rap and hip-hop artists out of business, as well as most black comedians.

      Tim Farron finally quit as leader of the UK's LibDem party (leftists).     He is a homophobe and religious nutter, yet his party supported him as leader.

      So tell me again how it's the conservatives who are homophobes.

      I will admit my ignorance of UK politics, but I wonder how closely the liberal/conservative lines there parallel those in the US.  Can you name a liberal in the US against gay rights?  Google couldn't.

    • How stories propagate in the media.. shocking

      There is a story that has been going on for 5 years.. (actually 11 years).  It has been ignored completely for about a year, but today it has again erupted into a firestorm.  It is a story that I have special knowledge of, and it is only relevant to one country.  It's not really a political story, so I don't mention it here.

      BUT.. what has been published on the radio, TV, newspapers, and internet about this story today CLEARLY illustrates how stories propagate.    The newest chapter of the story broke yesterday, and it contained two GLARING errors.  Errors that are clearly errors, no opinions.  That doesn't surprise me.  What DOES surprise me is that today, all the other TV, newspapers, radio and internet reports are covering this story.. and including the SAME ERRORS!

      So, what is going on is that media outlets are not researching their reports at all, nor are they verifying anything.  They are just plagiarizing each other.. getting their "facts" from another bad source.  Sort of like.. the New York Post getting their facts from the Washington Post.. that got their facts from the Chicago Tribune.. that got their facts from the LA Times that got their facts from some anonymous, erroneous source!

      In advanced English classes in school, they torture students with the task of having to put footnotes all over the place that refer to the source of the information being presented in an essay / thesis.   The news media should have to do the same thing, if not in the article they wrote, they should provide their sources on request.    "Washington Post.. who told you that Trump has 7 toes on his left foot?  Was it a reputable source? " And they respond "uh…  it was the Chicago Tribune.."

      In computer lingo.. we call that GIGO  - "Garbage In - Garbage Out".

      @raphjd:

      Afraid you might see something you might not like?    Perhaps muslims acting like entitled cunts?

      TBH, I'm like inches away from not giving a shit anymore. On top of that, I don't want to look up stuff on your behalf and respond to it, only find out it's not even the thing you were talking about. If you had any conviction in what you're saying, you could at least carry the burden of proof of your own arguments.

      This is the fate of many moonbats.. they don't give a shit anymore, and after about 3 months they explode and shit goes splattering everywhere.

      It's also fascinating that the moonbats demand proof of everything.  I find that I not only provide links that prove much of what I say, but also provide links to prove that what the moonbats say is misleading or flat out wrong.  I wouldn't want to have me for an enemy.
      There is a reason why I don't complain nor boycott the moonbats..  I am practicing to battle some moonbats in real life in a year or two, and I need to be able to deal with any trick or scheme they throw my way.  I've done it in real life before - such as when I had a lawyer disbarred and a doctor fired from the county's employ.  I have gotten much better at dealing with dingbats since then.  A dingbat is a more general form of moonbat.  A moonbat is a dingbat that is liberal.  A dingbat has no particular political affiliation.

      @sutieday:

      @raphjd:

      Oh the irony.

      It's liberals who claim they are on the right side of history, just like ISIS.

      It's liberals who cover their faces to "protest", dressing just like ISIS.

      It's liberals, just like ISIS, who do not have a problem with using violence to get their way.

      The bigotry of raphjd in this post is astounding. He's being bigoted in this post and here is my justification:

      Thinks all Muslims are terrorists (ISIS)

      Thinks all liberals are the same and violent (ISIS)

      Does not denounced violence against Muslims (even by other Muslims)

      Not open to new ideas of reason; just trolls (Alt-right is alright)

      I've traveled the world and experienced various cultures and beliefs, and I really think that by doing this you can get a better understanding of people and ideas, and break down the barrier of bigotry.

      You are really pushing your luck by mis-stating someone else's comments.
      No where did he mention muslims.    he was comparing the mindset of liberals to members of ISIS.
      Certainly all members of ISIS are terrorists.. it's a terrorist organization.
      The mere act of putting the label of ISIS upon this group of people is denouncing them.. since that is the name of a terrorist organization.
      You say he is "not open to new ideas of reason".  That sounds just like Sheik Obama who spent 8 years placating, rewarding, and appeasing terrorists.

      This reminds me of the old Tootsie Pop commercial where the boy asks Mr. Owl how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop.  The owl starts licking   "One.. twooooo.. threeee.. CRUNCH!"

      @raphjd:

      "IT" refers to rule violations by liberals while crying about rule violations.

      Let's use your example of Fred and Sutie.

      They get into a slagging match.   Sutie and other liberals will complain in the forums, the help desk, reported topics and site email.     I'll be called "alt-right" and accused of abusing my powers and whatnot.    Fred won't complain and just get on with it.

      Why are you insistent on limiting it to "Trumptard" vs "libtard"?    Expand it out and you'll see that both sides are pretty equal in name calling.

      I was called a racist simply because I pointed out 2 proven facts told by Rep John Lewis.  I didn't mention race, just that he lied.   That was enough to make me a racist.   Why do you want to ignore things like that, if you want to talk about facts.

      Once again.. the "left" try to isolate a specific person to attack and ignore the rest.  Not going to work.  This time they are trying to blame all the problems on myself and Sutieday.    Another day it's just mhorndisk and royalcrown.. another day it's just Raphjd and DrWas.. and then there is ppucci and a gaggle of other leftists.

      By the way.. Rep John Lewis has been arrested over 45 times.  He is a unique character in that he both behaves and LOOKS like a rebellious 4 year old who is throwing a neverending tantrum - which is why he has been arrested over 45 times.

      Oh.. and the polls said Jon Ossof would win.

      It would seem that the overwhelming animosity directed at Trump by the media moonbats is fizzling and backfiring.

      Can Frederick go one post without using "moonbat"? Nope.

      You sound like Sheik Obama who refused to ever use the word "terrorist".
      In the comment above, I used the word "moonbats" do delineate those members of the media who are extremely unfair, consistently biased, with a tilt to the deep left.. who have no regard for the truth, and have an agenda rather than stick to reporting the news.  I've asked this several times before.  What word would you like me to apply to such a group of people?  Perhaps "wingnuts"?  Everything sounds better in French.. how about "trous de cul liberal"?

      Despite Raphjd's comments, I think the vapid name-calling is certainly more prevalent on the right.  If down-voting comments without reading them is a violation of the rules, then perhaps there is blame to go around, but I don't see a rule against that.  It seems raphjd's comments are based on complaints against him to the helpdesk, which obviously are not part of the public forum.  I think an objective reading of the forum posts over the past few months will validate the OP.

      Uh huh.. I know this trick.. you are trying to focus the blame for everything on Raphjd.
      That is complete nonsense.
      There is one mod on this site that I have issues with.. and that is why I'm forbidden from entering his part of the site that has nothing to do with the torrents nor the forums.   I got into it with him in the past, and got keel hauled for it - even though I was right.  Raphjd is extremely tolerant - which is proven by the fact you and the other bad boys are still here.  You try and argue in the chat room and you will find yourself looking for porn on Google and Yahoo searches  (actually, there is a shocking amount of porn on yahoo).

      If I started enforcing the rules in the way liberals want, you'd be crying on the help desk far more than you guys do now.

      Oddly, liberals violate the rules as much, if not more, than the conservatives but complain about the rules not being followed/enforced almost exclusively.

      Citation needed! Your bias is showing! If you enforced the rules we would likely see less direct attacks on users (which as against the rules). But, you'd prefer this form section to be filled with chaotic people who just want tension rather than reason and debate. Sadly, I doubt things will ever change here.

      I have plenty of citations (examples) to support what Raphjd said.  99% of Sutieday's messages break the rules.

      @sutieday:

      @Frederick:

      Some yoyos keep posting polls indicating Trump's popularity sinking.
      Have we not learned about polls yet?

      About 2 years ago, the corrupt fraud conservative Stephen Harper was supposed to easily win another term as Prime Minister of Canada.. he LOST!

      7 months ago, Hitlary Cliton was ahead 20% in the polls and seemingly everybody (except me) was convinced she would win.. she LOST (despite spending 4 times as much as Trump).

      Last year with Brexit, the polls said that Britain would vote to stay in the EU, but surprise surprise.. they voted to EXIT the EU.

      A couple of weeks ago.. an election was held in the UK that was supposed to be won by Elizabeth May by at least 20%.. however, she lost so many seats in parliament that she no longer has a majority and is scrambling to figure out how to govern.

      In a special election in Georgia that is taking place today, this dweeb aniti-trump moonbat Jon (Ass Jackoff) Ossoff running against Karen Handel and was supposed to win by a huge margin, and had spent over 10 times as much as Handel.. yet it looks like Handel will win.

      This silly polls that bozos keep referring to are worse than useless.  Polls have become a tool of propaganda.

      On the other hand.. take a look at a REAL measure of popularity… the Dow Jones Average.  From 18,332 on election day.. and now an all time high of 21,514.    An increase of 17.4% in just 7 months since Trump won the election!  Whoo hoo!   :cheers:

      Okay, so the stock market doing well is not an indicator of #45's popularity increasing. If anything, his popularity with investment bankers and wall street is going through the roof!

      Not just the stock market, but the entire economy.  That is a major indicator of a president's popularity and success.
      The sniveling snots who still can't get over not having their bitch witch Hillary as president have nothing but their moronic opinions.
      An opinion and $8 will get you a smoothie at Starbucks.  Those polls are garbage, and have been proven over and over and over and over and over and over again to be wrong.

      @raphjd:

      Well, he does you his social media platform to showcase bike lock liberal ideas, while banning classic liberal and conservatives.

      Facebook was caught and finally admitted to burying things that made liberals look bad, while promoting things that made conservatives look bad.

      Oh geez.. please give me links to Facebook's admission of burying things etc.  I have future plans to deal with Facebook and their criminal disabling of my accounts that were loaded with extremely important, private messages to hundreds of people.

      One big issue I have with Facebook is their insistence on using real names on profiles.  The didn't require them when they began.. but later did.. and retroactively zapped existing accounts with pseudonyms.  Then they got sued.. and were supposed to end that policy, but they have not.  They also do illegal things such as ask for one's full social security number as a form of identification.
      It's a stupid policy.  If someone's name was  John Smith, Jim Jones, Mary Johnson, etc.  It would be nearly impossible to ever find that person who might be your friend - defeating the entire purpose of being on social media.  On the other hand, if you had a name like Periwinkle Humperdink,  Merriweather Gronk, or Regis Pluribus.. you would have no anonymity at all.

      I have had many people threaten to kill me over the most insane topics.. such as LASIK eye surgery, Hillary Clinton, the brother who murdered JonBenet Ramsey, and even how to maintain a fish aquarium!  When people can't win a debate, they making complaints and threats and boycott, etc.  (all of which has happened here).
