I understand the perception that the site is "understaffed," but as background, I believe the Moderators and Helpdesk staff are unpaid volunteers.
I once considered taking on such a role, but felt that my overall (stunning lack of) computer skills would require too much remedial education before I became an asset, rather than a liability.
Along those lines, some members volunteer -- but quit in short order -- during the training. Others may not possess the "team" attitude or service orientation to deal with a never-ending stream of newbie questions (answered easily in the Rules section, but who reads these days?).
When all's said and done, I applaud any computer-savvy members who have the time and interest to volunteer. It would really help our site!
And to return to the thread's origin, I really appreciate Brad's citations -- I award him the rarely used bikini..!
