    • RE: Republican-Led Senate Panel Details Ties Between 2016 Trump Campaign and Russia

      @raphjd:

      Leftist media claiming Russian collusion.

      It's important to distinguish between "interference" and "collusion."  All of the US intelligence agencies have evidence that Russian entities interfered with the 2016 election in the US.  The Mueller investigation, and the cited article, say that there isn't sufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against Mr Trump for actively conspiring with the interfering Russian entities.

      Sarah Jeong isn't a racist according to the NYT.

      How is that relevant to this topic?

    • RE: Judge Blocks Trump Officials’ Attempt to End Transgender Health Protections

      @raphjd:

      I can't read the article without creating an account.   Supposedly you only get 1 article a wee without an account.

      If you leave the NYTimes site and then delete any cookies from NYTimes.com, it puts the article counter back to zero and you'll be able to read another piece.

      Anyway, as we have seen over the last 4 years is activist liberal judges such as the ones who claimed that non-citizens outside the US have US constitutional protections.

      Umm, that doesn't have anything to do with the OP's topic, which regarded rights of transgender people.

    • RE: Seeding a torrent that has no demand

      Hi–

      First off, it's very refreshing to hear questions about "how am I a good contributor to the site?" rather than "how can I get as much out of this as I can?"  Ultimately, of course, you get as much out as you put in, but I digress.

      Here's what I do for "no leecher" torrents, and why:  If a torrent has nobody leeching it, I'll keep it for a few days because someone might come along who hasn't checked into the site recently and want the material.  If there are still a large number of other seeders, I might delete it earlier.

      If I'm the only person seeding it, I tend to hang on a bit longer, because it I delete the torrent, then it's "dead" on the system and nobody can get it.

      As for taxing resources, I don't think having a "no leecher" torrent staying active is a drain on the gt.ru site, but a moderator can weigh in here and correct me as appropriate.  As for whether it's taxing your computer, I tend to think not.  With a Windows machine you can go to the task manager and see how much memory and processor is being used by your torrent client...most likely, it's not very much, and you have  plenty of resources left for other applications.  It might be interesting to do a test, and compare the resources before and after deleting a bunch of unused torrents.

      One other consideration is whether a torrent is consuming one of your allocated/limited-by-the-system download slots:  If you have selected only some of the files in a torrent to download (not all of them), even after those files complete and your torrent client shows 100% completed, the system will still show you as downloading this torrent, because you haven't captured all of it.  If you find that you can't start downloading from a new torrent because you've reached your cap, you can fix this by deleting torrents where you've only snatched some of the files.  Note that it can take the tracker up to 30 minutes (I think) to recognise that you've deleted the partial torrent and then let you start the new one.

      I hope this helps.  Welcome to the site, and happy viewing  ;D

    • RE: Trump's no dummy….

      @ManHandler:

      I have some big problems with Trump, but if you voted for Hillary, than you're just a stupid piece of shit. Sorry. In Haiti she raised a billion dollars in charity and promised to build a hospital and then she kept 90% for administrative fees, fucking over all the Haitian people, who now hate her guts. If you think that's ok, there's something seriously wrong with you. And as far as your Putin puppet bullshit, guess what? Mueller did two years and said there was no evidence, whatsoever. In fact, they literally manufactured evidence, it wasn't even an investigation. That's now the facts. In fact, the only Russia collusion was Hillary and the DNC paying for a fake dossier from Russian Intel Operatives who admitted it was just a conversation in a bar… that Trump had Russian hookers pee on him. You should be ashamed of yourself for being a total idiot.

      I'm not going to take a position on the political issues here…but I'm disappointed to see a forum comment that has so many references back to a person, rather than to the issues.  A post that makes ad hominem references to another poster is better left off the board.

    • RE: This Is Extremely Dangerous To Our Democracy

      It might be well to recall a precept followed by Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minister of propaganda from 1933 to 1945:

      “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

      @bearbearbear:

      More alarming, some media outlets publish the same fake stories without checking facts first.

      Much of this is, of course, politically motivated:  Someone hears a story that aligns with their worldview, and they regurgitate it.

      Another troubling factor, though, is that small news outlets in small media markets find it much easier to broadcast someone else's work rather than doing their own.  These people aren't journalists or reporters; they're simply echo chambers.  As you say, though, they have an obligation to check the truth of what they're saying.  But since the process is motivated by a combination of laziness and comfort with the original message, they aren't doing this.

      Perhaps there should be a rule that if you broadcast someone else's copy, one must cite the source.

      Right, because there's not money in vaccines. Are you for real? Bill Gates wants to vaccinate the entire population. 7 Billion. Do you have any idea how much money he has invested in this? He'd be the world's first trillionaire. Tinfoil hat. Conspiracy. Get real dude.

      I am indeed quite real.

      Forum comments are valuable when they are about issues.  They are not valuable when they are about other participants.

    • Editing torrent comments

      I notice that I can edit comments I make on torrents uploaded by other people, but I don't seem to have the edit option if I add a comment to one of my own torrents.  It would be nice to have this option, as one who commits an occasional tyop.  Could this be added to the system?  Perhaps there's a reason for this "feature" that I'm not aware of.

      A blind cat chases its tail.

      Does the cat chase its tail because it is blind?

      Is the cat blind because it chases its tail?

      I think these questions are beyond me, but one notes that the cat is chasing something else, rather than that something else chasing the cat.  The latter could be interpreted as "chasing pussy," which does not find much favour on this site.

    • RE: Snatches Before Completing Upload

      @bearbearbear:

      It's unlikely that it's because someone already has that file from elsewhere and instantly realizes you've uploaded it here and downloads the torrent file from here.  It's almost certainly an issue of incorrect statistics being registered or displayed.

      There have been a few times when I've uploaded a torrent here with new material, and somebody else who has the identical material (most likely getting it from the same place I did) then downloads the torrent file and seeds off his copy.  It's possible that the material could be completely seeded out to other users even if I didn't upload 100% of the file(s) myself.

      This "jumping on" isn't cool, but it's hard to address.  If I look on my torrent client and see that I've seeded about half the file, and a dozen or so other users all have about half of it, but then there's one user who has all of it, then I know that user barged in on my torrent.  But all I have is an IP address, which isn't informative if he's using a VPN.

      For me, I don't care.  I have a strong ratio, and I'm not worried about missing some upload credits.  But if the original torrent uploader is in "ratio jail" and needs the upload credit, it's nasty.  I don't know how to address this other than appealing to users' better nature…which for some people is probably futile.

      Clearly you haven't seen the rest of his clearly biased posts in this thread, as well as other threads.

      That's absolutely correct.  I prefer to address each topic/thread individually.  I wonder if pointing to his other posts is a look-over-there whataboutist suggestion?  🙂

      And as for bias, everybody has one…especially people who insist that they don't.

    • RE: Logical fallacies - Whataboutism

      Whataboutism occurs across the political spectrum.  As a famous rabbi once said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

      The original post did not take a political position one way or another about this phenomenon.  It is interesting, though, how it got such a strong response from one end of the spectrum.  To quote an old Polish (I think) proverb, "If you throw a stone at a pack of dogs, the one that yelps is the one that you hit."

      @Guzzofan:

      I don't want to say that he "owes" me, but considering I did help him out, it's rather surprising and frustrating that he's been cockteasing me like this.

      Umm…even if you're not saying that he "owes" you, it does sound like you believe he "should" help you.  The fact that you helped him out doesn't put him under any obligation to help you.

      I think the best resolution here is for you to ask a moderator to delete this thread or at least the other guy's username from the original post.

    • RE: Spying on men - experiences

      @bearbearbear:

      I saw a torrent the other day that was a bunch of images of a young man (high school or college) who was on a competitive water sports team.  None of the photos were nude and all of them were taken in public around the pool where there is no expectation of privacy, but it still seemed inappropriate to me.

      One photo in a collection of photos of different men in Speedos would be okay, but a collection of photos of just the one young man is creepy and wrong even if it is not illegal as he was obviously unaware the photos were being taken and did not give consent to have them taken or distributed on the internet.

      I think I know the collection you mean–if the guy was wearing grey speedos.  I agree that, while not illegal, there's a "creepiness" factor there that is uncomfortable.

      On the OP's topic, I do enjoy spying on guys, but "real time," rather than recording it.  I used to live in a cluster of high-rises, where it was easy to see in the windows of other apartments.  Some guys would walk around naked, jerk off, and/or have sex with the lights on and the draperies open.  Some were consciously exhibitionist, as they would walk right up to the window and look out,  They had to know that they could be seen.  Others probably didn't know how clearly they could be viewed.

      The only "story" coming out of this is unfortunately rather bland:  A guy across the street, a 20-ish blond twink, could occasionally be seen giving blow jobs to other guys.  One day as I was leaving the local gym, I could see that he was just ahead of me in the check-out line.  I knew we would be walking in the same direction, so I started up a conversation with him.  I was hoping that it would turn into an invitation, but no such luck.  Later on that evening, though, I could see that he had another mouthful   ;D
