And sometimes they actually DO overlook the bad ways their discoveries can be used - because to them, knowledge is the goal... the ONLY goal.

I will repeat: the Moderna mRNA technology was being developed pre-COVID-19 as a potential treatment or vaccine against HIV. That research continues, and so - with the extreme success rate seen with the re-tooling for COVID-19 - the hope for something that works as a defense against HIV is there and palpable.

Of course, those results will be politicized - but while the politicians argue, the scientists will go back to work figuring out the NEXT BIG THING.... because that is what they do!

1 - There was no opinion in the case you constantly refer to here, just a finding that a specific law did not apply to a specific case. Nothing - nothing - was written to explain their finding, nor to create a precedent. The finding was that they couldn't agree to overturn the lower court, so with a 4-4 tie, the lower court (appeals court) ruling stood.

2 - With no explanation, there is no way to "interpret" the finding in the above case, except in the instance for which it was found. This is "unsettled law".

3 - It was Trump's CDC rule that was found to exceed what was authored in the original law - a law that has been re-written and re-passed since.
NOTE: It doesn't mean Trump's CDC rule was good or bad, just that their legal basis for their rule was an "overreach" in the eyes of an appeals court judge (or, possibly a panel)... and SCOTUS couldn't agree enough to say either way!

4 - Biden's CDC (which is arguably, the same as the Trump CDC) issued a new rule to stop evictions. I don't agree with the rule (as I noted: where the f**k are the landlords supposed to get the money to pay the taxes, mortgage, repairs, etc.?? Many of the landlords I'm speaking of are INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE, not corporations with deep-pockets... in many cases, this was people's retirement plan - and not only is the cash flow gone, but the "principal" is too! They've been foreclosed on - in many cases by the TAX-MAN!)

5 - In response to an earlier post: NO, the NIH is not entirely political - but they have, in recent history, been dragged into political arguments. Also, as the HEAD of the CDC is a political appointee, there can sometimes be overlap.
That is a LONG WAY from being entirely political

Indeed, I would propose that the CDC (and NIH) are mostly a-political, but their findings get used by politicians when it suits them.

Is the new moratorium on evictions (for non-payment of rent due to COVID-19) a political rule? Or a public health one? If you asked me to, I could reasonably argue either way.

And that is the true nature of humanity - most things are NOT clear-cut, binary observations. There are usually nuances...

First, let's understand the numbers you're looking at:

• Upload byte count isn't how much you've uploaded *of your own content, it's how much data you've uploaded in total
• Download byte count isn't necessarily how much you've downloaded - because there are *FREELEECH torrents that are recorded, but don't count!

So, for example: Say I download an awesome Asian Porn movie from PeterFever.

• It's 800GB in size, so that's 800GB in download "charged" to my account.
• After I download it, I keep seeding it... and over a few days or weeks, enough other people download it - with my part being just a fraction of some of those downloads - and my upload count for that file reaches 1600GB, so I stop seeding.
• NOTE: I picked that number because my torrent program comes pre-configured to STOP seeding when the ratio hits 2.0 - a setting I change, but it's the default... if yours has a default like that too, I recommend turning it off!

Now, for a REAL booster, I keep an eye on that torrent and I see that activity on the file has dropped off (few, if any downloaders now). More importantly, I see that I am one of a very small number of people seeding it - but I also know that a LOT of people love bareback Asian porn like me, so I go back to the torrent listing in the tracker (e.g. on the site) and I use some of my SBP to make that torrent FREELEECH for 24-hours!

That attracts a LOT of downloaders, so my upload credits go UP UP UP because I'm seeding (helping to seed) all those new downloaders (and I'm one of only a few - if not the ONLY one - seeding it!)

NOTE: Be careful spending your SBP for FREELEECH: if it's not a popular file, or there are too many other seeders, you may not get as many upload "credits" as it cost you in SBP!
Remember: 600 SPB = 10GB of upload credit!

If your ratio (upload divided by download) gets outta whack, remember that you can download a FREELEECH torrent for free (download doesn't count in your download part of the ratio)! If you haven't noticed: mods freeleech torrents - sometimes for an entire week! Lord knows why, but in the end there are ALWAYS plenty of FREELEECH torrents to choose from! But the point is, LOTS of people download the FREELEECH torrents, and if you're one of the seeders, you're getting upload credit while they're getting the download for free!

No vaccine prevents you from getting a virus - if someone with polio breathes on you, you'll get the polio virus. If you've been vaccinated, you won't get SICK from polio.

The same here: if you have been vaccinated and are exposed to COVID-19, you will get the virus inside you... it's not like the vaccine creates some invisible barrier around you! What won't happen tho is that you'll get sick and need hospitalization from the effects of the virus.

ALL vaccines do the same general thing: TEACH YOUR BODY to defend against the "bad thing" (virus, in this case). Your own immune system is still doing the ACTUAL work... the vaccine just gave your immune system a "cheat sheet"...

Kinda like how the Astros won the WS in 2017: when you generally know what pitch is coming ahead of time, it's a lot easier to hit the ball!
When your immune system already knows how to deal with COVID-19 (or Polio, or Chicken Pox, or Measles, etc), then it's much easier to "beat" the infection when it shows up.... but it no way ELIMINATES the infection COMPLETELY!

You do know that even if you got C-19 before the vaccines, you had an extremely small chance of dying, don't you?

Fewer under 18s have died from C-19 than got myocarditis from the Pfizer shot.

So far, I only know 1 person to have gotten C-19. That was my stepmom. Because she's an ex-smoker (like me) she was hospitalized for 2 weeks and survived. I literally don't know anyone else who has gotten it.

Because I'm a local politician (chairman of my royal borough), I'm always chatting with people. Excluding the people that are either scared or annoyed about C-19, I just don't hear about it. What I do hear about is cancer, rickets, and other normal stuff.

I'm not a high enough level in politics to get special medical treatment, so my hand is still messed from when I broke it back on 2 Oct 2020.

Yes, the medical science has changed on COVID over time - science isn't about getting it right the first time, REAL science is about guessing (it's called a hypothesis - remember middle school science class?), and then testing that guess against the facts. And when your GUESS is proven wrong, you refine your guess with another one... and repeat the process... until your guess is right!

When you enter into the process EARLY in the data gathering stage (like in early 2020 - when Trump was still President), there are more erroneous guesses... but the more data is gathered, the better the guesses become. In scientific terms, this is called "learning."

Look, you love it when I point out things Trump did right: and his early response to COVID-19 was completely correct, even if all the contact tracing and belief that the virus was spread by surface contact vs aerosol was actually wrong. In those early days, he "went with the science" and likely saved a LOT of lives with the early "shutdowns" - again, even if in hindsight it was over-broad and hurt the economy in ways that didn't HAVE to be. It was the best known course of action at the time. ... and it saved lives!

The early reaction of Trump to devote millions of Federal dollars to fast-tracking vaccine research also paid off! Unfortunately for Trump, it paid off a few months too late... had the vaccine been available in large quantities in July, 2020 the outcome of the election might have been very different! But that's not what happened.

The problem with Trump later in the year was that he lost confidence in his scientists. So he started looking around for new scientists... some that would tell him something other than "hundreds of thousands of people will die, you will be blamed (even though it isn't your fault), and you will likely lose re-election as a result"... While that was the truth he didn't want to hear it, and there were plenty of yes-men who would tell him the Sun was made of ice-cream if that's what he wanted to hear!

Because it's germane to the conversation about Trump's COVID response, let me say that Trump wanted to fill his administration with "the impossible dream" - the best of the best in every field (doable) who would do his bidding without question (doable). He expected to find people that could be both... and that turned out to be exceptionally rare! Even Pence and Barr couldn't meet Trumps standards of total and unquestioning loyalty like he expected!

But to get back to the point....

This vaccine and COVID-19 denial bullshit is killing US! - Not the other guys - just US!!!

I apologize... unlike you, I actually make a mistake from time to time... (actually, I make mistakes every day... it's part of being human in an active society)

In fact, you were also correct when you point out that these last 2 suicides make 4 officers who have succumbed to PTSD or other mental illness as a result of Jan 6 and taken their own lives as a result.

As for why you should care about the police? Hmmmm,.... maybe because - at least in this country - they carry guns and have the ability to crash into your home without notice for whatever reason they seem fit! It'd be nice to think that they'd be mentally stable with those "powers" - so that they wouldn't be making the decision to storm into my house, guns drawn - because it was a Poke-Gym and they needed points!
