That's what I always did too. Meet at the public place. You will know. I you joke a lot if you feel secure and comfortable, then you're good. I got too hasty once cause I saw the guy for the first time but we spoke for 5 months I think but it was like 2 messages a week lol. We had a laugh, we were getting along so I invited him too my house. Well I wasn't alone so that's a good thing too. If you have any roommates you don't have to worry about anything. I for example got my mom. That's funny. But we were in my room and only talked. We started kissing so I asked him to stay overnight. He did. Mom knew that there was someone (although she knew only the part that we were learning for an exam…uh.. we weren't ) and I still got the fun. That was probably the best solution.
