    • RE: Metal fans?

I came of age in the late 90's/early-00's. This meant being exposed a lot of mostly terrible "alternative" metal music as a kid. I was really into that stuff from around ages 8-13, until I started getting exposed to better things. I've gone through a number of phases over the years, so I've developed a taste for just about every kind of metal (and music in general).

I can probably come up with at least one or two groups I enjoy in any metal sub-genre you can think of. That's not intended as a boast, only to illustrate my point when I say I like "a little bit of everything". I guess my favorite metal sub-genres are those rooted in extreme thrash, though. I also really like old school grindcore, but I don't think of it as a metal genre per se.

As far as extreme metal and hardcore are concerned, I cut my teeth on the old Earache Records roster from before that label turned completely to shit.

And yes, Judas Priest counts. I'm almost afraid to ask if you were joking!

5 o'clock shadow. Sideburns done right can look good on the right person, too. I'm not particularly into anything else.

As a native of Mississippi, all I can say is:

EDIT: But also, I am glad I don't live there anymore. Mississippi is sort of like the Bermuda Triangle or the Twilight Zone or something. As soon as you cross the state line, it's like entering an alternate reality. People go to church for fun there. It's literally the only thing there is to do in Mississippi.

I will put just about anything in my mouth, so long as it's been cleaned beforehand. Hygiene is a big factor for me when it comes to this sort of thing. Different strokes. I don't think it's worth getting hung up on unless someone is trying to make you do it against your will, in which case you should tell them to fuck off.

    • RE: Gentle or Rough Sex?

      @rydeguy:

I totally disagree with both statements, that mindset is a huge turn off, and strikes me as totally disrepectful.  I'm not trying to rape the guy i'm playing with I'm trying to enjoy a hot time with him and others.  I treat my sex partners the way I want to be treated.  Men today have no idea how to fuck, it's like you're in a fucking porn movie and it's all rough and being treated like you're a piece of shit. There's no connection, no sense of passion, it's ugly and vulgar,  What the fuck is up with that?

There is nothing wrong with role play, as long as both parties agree beforehand the boundaries and there is also nothing wrong with the rougher side of sex if that's what all involve enjoy, but just treating everyone the same is not the way to go.  Also, if someone says don't force them to do something then you obey their wishes.

Agreed. There are some very disconcerting views about sex, what sex "is", and where simple BDSM/role play ends and apparent self-loathing begins being expressed here… Some guys are so hung up on not "being gay", they act like complete psychopaths just to prove how "manly" they are. It's depressing.

    • RE: Monogamy

I think either can work depending on the individuals, so I don't really think one is inherently better than the other. It's something that should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Personally, I would like to have a serious, monogamous relationship. I like the idea that I could possibly meet someone I feel so strongly about that I actually want to spend the rest of my life with them. People outside of that become invisible to me, so I have no interest in sex or romance with other people. I like sex, but I don't want it as a kind of glorified masturbation. I like to know and have real feelings for someone before we shoving parts of our anatomy into one another. Casual sex has always felt very unfulfilling to me, but it does not bother me that other people enjoy it.

I've never been exceedingly horny the way some (a lot of) men seem to be, where they get really agitated and start acting all macho and obnoxious the moment they encounter someone they find attractive in public. I myself have seen guys in public and been so taken with them that I can't stop taking glances and feeling all fluttery, but I never go beyond that level. Some friends of mine get downright assholish when anyone, even unwittingly, gets in the way of their "mission" to fuck someone they've seen for the first time 10 minutes ago. It's all very alien to me. I'm getting off topic, though,

Despite not being a huge horndog and really wanting a single partner myself, I wouldn't care about that partner having casual sex. What is important is honesty and the sense of security that comes with knowing they still come home to me at the end of the day. It's not because they have to, but because they want to (considering I don't have loads of money or connections for anyone to exploit). Touching base, letting me know where they are, being safe and responsible (for their sake and mine), etc. is what's important to me. As long as my partner is honest, I am happy if they are happy.

I think the only aspect of a "one-sided open relationship" that would really bother me is if they brought their one night stands home with them. I think anyone who isn't a huge narcissist would be able to understand that nobody but some cuck (and I'm not one) wants to wait around watching TV in the living room while people noisily fuck in the other room. I wouldn't be in a relationship with someone that inconsiderate to begin with, though.

    • RE: Progressive Rock

I only ever listened to a bit of King Crimson years ago on the recommendation of my sister. I remember liking them okay, but they didn't stick with me, and I haven't heard much of them since. I barely even remember anything about their sound. I always meant to come back to them eventually.

It's only in recent years that I've started developing a real taste for Prog, though I'm still pretty new to the genre. My appreciation for the genre has developed very slowly over the last ten years or so, but I believe it started with discovering Hawkwind's Space Ritual album, then, some years later, the Virgin-era Tangerine Dream albums, and, later still, "prog-lite"/art rock bands like Pavlov's Dog and Supertramp.

Actually, before any of that, my mom would frequently play Rush in the car, and I've always loved them, even the synth-heavy stuff… I listened to A Farewell to Kings and Power Windows an awful lot in those days, and they're probably still my two favorite Rush albums as a result.

I think it's only in the last year that I actually decided to give Yes a try, which is something I would not have ever imagined myself doing a few years ago. The first album I listened to was Close to the Edge, and I found I really liked it a lot, which led to me checking out some of their other early records, and then taking the time to explore Hawkwind even further (Space Ritual had been the only Hawkwind album I listened to until recently).

I'm in no way a prog aficionado, but I would consider myself a casual fan at this point. I'm not sure I'll ever get past my antipathy towards Pink Floyd and their legions of burnout loser fans, though (I've known too many of them growing up). In fairness, I am not even really familiar with anything beyond their biggest hits, but PF have pretty much been irreversibly spoiled for me by these people and the countless times I've had to sit through the same three or four songs in their presence… My disdain for scuzzy frat-bro-dude-hippies and their Pink Floyd Greatest Hits CD's runs very deep, yes.

PS: I'm not unwilling to consider PF album recommendations someone with Pink Floyd PTSD like myself might try to begin the healing process with... 😉

Also, if interested, check out Pampered Menial and then At the Sound of the Bell by Pavlov's Dog if you don't mind terribly precious, poppy AOR with prog rock flourishes. I really love them, as sappy as they are… they're "different" and "unique"! And check out Tangerine Dream's Force Majeure and Tangram if you're not familiar and want some proggy long-form instrumental synthesizer music.

    • RE: What Does Bottoming Feel Like?

I think it depends on the top's technique, really. Specifically, I think it depends on whether or not he can hit your "p-spot", which is a big part of the pleasure of bottoming IMO… It's like being on the edge of an orgasm, really. Actually, it can even lead to a complete orgasm.

    • RE: Are you Religious?

I consider myself an atheist, but I am not "anti-religious", "militant", etc. nor do I think less of people who are theistic. The concept of god(s) and an afterlife just do not seem plausible to me. Granted, I realize how totally incomprehensible the very existence and origins of the universe itself are, but "God" just isn't a satisfactory explanation of it for me. I really like the "idea" of a divine/intelligent creator. It is very comforting, and I wish I could believe in it, but I can't force myself to do so.

Regardless, I am very happy for those I love and care for who find solace in faith. While I do dislike some of the ways religion is implemented in society, I'm not against it on principle for that reason alone. More importantly, though, I think it has as much capacity for good as it does bad in our lives, collectively speaking. The whole "religion has caused so much pain and suffering" argument is pretty weak as far as I'm concerned. I believe there is just as much if not more suffering present in the world which has no connection to religion whatsoever. Frankly, much of life itself is suffering. Not at the hands of the church, but by the very nature of the human condition. This is precisely what makes faith so appealing.

    • RE: CAN ANYBODY HELP ME WITH FINDING A GOOD MUSIC TORRENT SEARCH ENGINE?

what.cd and waffles.fm seem to be the big private music tracker powerhouses these days… I think both are probably either directly descended from or modeled after oink. I'd recommend trying to find an invite to these.

rutracker is another option. It has no ratio requirements and open registrations, and there's a surprising amount of music, including discographies, of some rather obscure things available there. There are often individual albums in FLAC, too.

Of course, the challenge with using rutracker is navigating the site if you don't know how to read Cyrillic text at all, but browsers do an adequate job handling automatic translations now, so it's pretty easy.

PS: Everyone says P2P is obsolete, but programs like soulseek are still pretty essential for a lot of obscure things that even private trackers and sites like rutracker don't cover. In fact, a lot of low bitrate MP3's you can find on private trackers have come from soulseek. It's great for finding music of the most obscure and random sort along with everything else if you can't find something on a tracker, though stuff shared on soulseek frequently comes in the form of abysmally low bitrate MP3's and grotty vinyl rips.
