When people get really, really old.. which is when they are over 30 - according to my adopted sister, their immune systems weaken due to many factors including age, and long-term use of various medications. This makes them susceptible to things such as the flu, pneumonia, shingles / chicken pox / herpes, etc. Now those same people are getting exposed to covid.. and testing positive for covid.. and anybody that dies who has ever tested positive for covid is being designated to be a covid death... because hospitals are commercial enterprises (hypocritically designated as non-profit to avoid paying taxes) and they get massive compensation from the government if someone is hospitalized or dies with a covid infection.

I would like to see a comparison of how many people under the age of 65
died of AIDS and how many people under the age of 65 died of covid.

I would also like to see a comparison of how much government money was spent on AIDS vs how much government money was spent on covid.

I have another theory about Covid - which relates to the size of one's cock. They should keep a database of photos of the size of every erect cock for males under the age of 30. They can send this data to me for analysis.

Personally, I think you do a good job of keeping your personal views (at least in the politics section) out of your "administrator" duties.

I've seen you ban people - people who crossed the well-defined rules/lines - and, generally, also ignored warnings.

If you were going to ban people for arguing against your point of view - or even beliefs - I have to think I'd have been booted out a LONG TIME ago!

Then again, when you DO boot someone, it shouldn't be surprising that they express displeasure where they can... which won't be here!

Section 230 isn't needed in the US.

Prior to Section 230, if they act as a publisher, they are liable for what is posted, but if they act as a platform they are not. We discussed the 2 lawsuits that made this clear.

Section 230 made special rights for "big tech" so they could act as both. It allows them to ban speech they don't like, as a publisher but protects them from lawsuits as a platform.

NO, I am not talking about the few limited cases of banned content by the government and SCotUS.

Your type of conservatism is "but muh corporations are people, so they have muh human rights".

You forgot the AP story about 70% of calls to Poison Control is for Ivermectin issues. It was less than 2% and in many cases, it was asking for information, not about medical needs.

The examples of "aggregators" not doing even basic homework on the stuff they're regurgitating are many and varied... on all sides.

In a perfect world, we'd find a way BACK to making news reporting a non-profit enterprise... so that there was no need to hyper-inflate stories, and no value in click-bait!

This is getting pretty wide-spread coverage - and I mention that because this is a 1-off case... a substitute teacher in a school district (Las Vegas) that is practically begging for nearly ANYONE to become a teacher due to shortages and COVID medical leaves. The district doesn't claim it didn't happen, and the "teacher" is being disciplined - but that is a "private" matter, so we'll probably never get to hear about the fallout...

It doesn't make it right - but substitute teachers have done MUCH MUCH worse, and received a LOT less coverage in the media!

GWB gave us the Patriot Act and Obama expanded it beyond anything GWB ever dreamed of. Now the Dems are here to finish Obama's work.

The UK's "constitution" only exists in your (generic) head. Several PMs and people running for PM have promised a written one, but they all lied. Gordon Brown was the last to promise a written constitution, but after becoming PM, he immediately backtracked on that promise.

The Scottish government has been shitting on our legal and human rights via various laws and they are ramping up the draconian laws every time we turn around.

Australia and NZ don't ascribe rights in their constitutions, so they can shit all over their people as they please.

As much as I hate the police, they are 18 times more likely to be shot by a black guy, than the other way around.

Why are there no NEW vaccines? They make new vaccines for the influenza flu every year.

Reasonable questions, and I certainly don't have ALL the answers... but let's start with the first assertion: The vaccines are no longer effective...

The COVID-19 vaccines are just as effective as ever... it's that their "lasting" influence on your immune system wanes over time. The "Booster" is supposed to kick your immune system hard enough to "make it stick" - and the booster is just another dose of the same vaccine.

Many of our vaccines are 3-dose vaccine.. the difference with COVID-19 is that the 1st 2 are so close together. It's my understanding that they're re-examining that protocol. (Remember: this is all NEW science with respect to COVID-19... we're still learning about this virus! That COVID-19 is another coronavirus doesn't really help much: we have vaccines against the flu, but not the cold - but both are caused by coronaviruses!)

As for the Flu analogy, if the same flu was infecting us each year, we wouldn't need new flu shots every year... but that's not the case. The flu that infects the world every year is different from year to year, and they cannot (yet) predict which one will be the "dominant" flu in any given year... thus, not only do you need a flu shot (of a different kind) each year, but there's a decent chance that it won't be effective against the flu that comes out THAT YEAR. (Edit: FWIW: I do NOT get the flu shot every year... I wait and see how BAD the flu "epidmic" is that year and the effectiveness of that year's shot and then make my decision. MOST years, I do NOT take the flu vaccine...)

Compare that to COVID-19 - which is (in spite of the variants) essentially the same virus world-wide, and there hasn't been a "new" one yet... just mutations, and thankfully the existing vaccines work on the mutations (so far) as well.

Finally, if (or perhaps when) COVID-19 mutates again (S. Africa is seeing a new strain that's potentially VERY dangerous), we may need NEW vaccines... let's keep our fingers crossed... that would add a whole new chapter to this ongoing, slow-rolling tragedy...
