Again things like this make me glad to live in Canada. I got married (unfortunately), and am in the process of contemplating walking down that road again as I think I've finally found THE one for me. As for the pension thing, that's something that's been a non-issue for anyone since the late 80's or early 90's. Benefits, insurance, etc. were all changed to state "spouse or domestic partner", which encompassed both unmarried heterosexual couples, as well as gay and lesbian couples the same perks as being married through a period of residing under the same roof for at least 1 year. Although there are certain drawbacks to Canada (like December - March), gay rights overall is one area where we're far more advanced than other countries.

I just saw on the news that later today, a UK court will rule on whether a mentally disabled woman should be sterilized after she gives birth in a couple of weeks.   There is no attempt to ban her from having sex.

This is more proof that the UK is still very homophobic.

EDIT:  The case has been adjourned until after she has the baby in May.

Due to DoMA, US federal employees can get partly funded pet insurnce, but they can not get insurance for gay/lesbian partner.

While Obama has repeatedly made promises to repeal DoMA {and DADT, and pass ENDA} he and his administration are on their 4th defense of DoMA.  In previous defenses, they said that gays do not deserve marriage because gay relationships were no better than incest, bestiality and pedophilia.

With friends like Obama, who needs enemies.

Reasons why I like Canada. For years issues of that nature have never been an issue. In fact, not only do all insurance converage companies acknowledge and honour a same-sex partner benefit, but I am living proof that it is legally permissible to marry an individual of the same sex (at least in Canada).
