I have been away from the site for a while, but have returned to participate once again (Hurray!)

I know there used to be a post in rules about which companies are banned from torrents, and others that have image bans on them. I have been looking, but I cannot find this now in the forums. Only things I come across are really old posts. Is there a recent / updated topic link which lists these banned sites, so I make sure to be careful and not upload images / torrents? I figure their must be, but I cannot find it. Please link in a reply.

Update: I did find the link for banned videos from certain studios, which also shows banned content type. No images banned independent of videos. So is it now OK to add images to a torrent page (max 10) as long as the film itself is legal? I remember back in the day, some studios were ok to torrent (because file not hosted on the site) but not post images, because those are on the site and could cause copyright problems for Gaytorrent.ru.

I started watching it not expecting to like it; I am not a Family Guy or Ted fan. But I found it really enjoyable.  A nice "Star Trek" show that hides some really interesting social commentary and issue discussion beneath positivity and occasional silliness.

The episode with the warrior aliens that are an all-male species, with the stigma of a female child and "corrective" surgery to make it a male; that was really deep in LGBT issues. and it did not end the way you might expect. and there are other really interesting takes on thinks like social media, religion, etc.

I'm not so sure about that.  America has a very puritanical streak. I think ANY teacher who shared "dirty" pictures online would be in a bad position, with people saying "think of the children!," and "we can't have this sicko around our kids." Maybe a boy would be punished more for tricking a female teacher, but she would still be moved / fired, and called a slut.

It also goes to show, you never know who is on the other end of the internet. Privacy is a myth; always act like you can be found out, so be careful.

Speaking as someone who does prefer to see younger, twinkish guys, I also think it odd you speak about "rather be intimate with" and "know what they are doing" as if that is a criteria for porn. Porn is a fantasy, not reality. When I am watching porn, I am generally alone, so not an issue of the knowledge of someone actually there touching me. You are probably right, that any 18yo I might actually have in my bed would not live up to the fantasy, but as a slightly overweight man pushing 50, that ain't likely to happen anyway.

You have your likes, I have mine. No need to be "repulsed" by my choices. I personally do not see the appeal of bearded butch muscle guys covered in tattoos. They remind me of the bullies of my youth, which is a negative memory.

As to the original question of underage, that is a different issue, because of the legality. I do find it odd that there are plenty of countries in Europe, and states in the US, where I could legally have sex with a 16 yo (even younger in a few European countries) but the image is somehow scandalous. I am not defending child porn, and have no interest in getting in trouble so I avoided the torrent/site as well, just find the distinction odd that the sex is less traumatic than the image, for age-of-consent legal guys. Probably a different thread somewhere for that.

While that is broadly true, the law generally recognizes as incest any sexual relationship between a child and step-parent as well, even if both are adults. No blood there.

It's become a recent problem of some members "gaming" the process of uploading an excessive number of pictures, simply for the sake of earning bonus points. While we normally appreciate member contributions to other member's torrents… when these picture uploads are done to excess, simply for earning points... the end results are... rather destructive, on a number of levels.

I agree with the no Spamming. I have a question about upload limit. I cannot find a policy about this relating to lots of different pictures that help to explain lots of different files. I have been uploading pictures to several torrents recently, and just encountered note telling me I cannot anymore upload images.

My ratio is fine, so this is not just to earn points. I tend to get bored and am a bit OCD, so I just sit sometimes and try to help by uploading pictures. What limit should I be aware of, or should i just stop trying to help?

I get the general thoughts on movies and TV, but… I'm just curious -- how is GLBT determined for MUSIC?  Some is obvious, but does this follow stereotypes only, like Cher and Madonna are "gay interest" but not Coldplay?

I see plenty of clips and sections posted here from longer movies.  I would like to be able to edit/clip certain parts from movies too.

What software does anyone recommend to simply save a portion of a video as a new file?  freeware is preferred.  I don't need to do any fancy editing, tagging, or merging; I just want to save the good scenes in a movie and get rid of the lame ones.

Any help is appreciated.  :hug:

My comment is probably a bit off topic, but…

haven't you done the same thing a bit in your list.  polygamy is an accepted practice in many world cultures, and if all the people involved are consenting legal adults, what's so wrong about it?  To put it in the list with pedophilia and beastiality is to marginalize polygamists the same way gays are marginalized.  I think gays who want gay marriage should acknowledge that if we can question the "gender" part of the marriage definition, then other parts of the definition can also be questioned, like the "number" requirement.

being gay is "abnormal" in the sense that it is a minority condition.  That doesn't make it wrong, but we will always have a bit of the sense of the odd/strange/abnormal, just like any other minority tribe/group/belief.  The key issue is being treated fairly and equally under the law, and not equating abnormal with bad.  I don't want to be married to one person, let alone several, but I can see no reason that my personal dislike should cause a law to limit those who do.

As for the main thread topic, it is of course a tragedy that this young man took his life for a perceived shame.  Are the two jerks who taped and broadcast him bad people? Yes.  Should they be charged for unauthorized taping? Yes.  Are they morally responsible for his death?  Mmmm... Maybe.  Should they be held LEGALLY responsible?  I don't think so.  In this day and age of so many young people living a complete internet and voyeuristic life, putting a tape of your roommate having sex online could easily be considered a prank, albeit one that has had tragic consequences.  Heck, there are spycam videos on this very site.  Are we so sure that those guys want their nakedness being spread around?  This is not to blame the victim or to minimize the tragedy, but sometimes shitty things happen in our lives, gay or straight.  Dealing with it and moving on is a must, not suicide.

A part of the answer on the five, is that our records are per session. This means if a leecher stops leeching and later continues, you see only the last stats since he re-started…

Perhaps in this case you were just "lucky" that no high bandwidth member of both sites jumped on ...

Mainly I am trying to show ThrobbinRod that jump-seeding isn't a problem like he thinks, because he makes wrong assumptions about where info counts and how things work.

As for the configuration preferences the Mgr mentions:  Probably there is nothing to be done explicitly, but as I and others have discussed in the "power seeding" thread, it can impact slower uploaders' ability to share fairly.  Maybe its more about educating people to share to a fair ratio, but not an excessive one.

Here are some stats for us, especially ThrobbinRod, to ponder over.  Not sure if it supports you or not.

Last night I uploaded a torrent for a Sk8erboy film, Boycatcher.  The original rip was not my own, but from another popular site.  It took about 11 hours to spread.  Because my upload speed was only about 60kb/sec, others in the torrent could spread faster.  When I looked this morning, there were dozens of people in the 95%-99% completed range, just about to cascade over into seeder.  I was the only seeder still.  I was curious, so I watched and refreshed the torrent page to see it happen.

Here are the current seeder stats, taken only about 20 minutes after the cascade of seeders happened:

Now, I was watching, so I know no one jumped on the swarm who got the file already at another site, even though I made it easy for them to do so.

However, I am perplexed by the five I highlighted.  the file is 1.28GB, which is what everyone else shows.  Not these five, who have all downloaded less than that, usually a lot less.  I know that the number would differ if a torrent had multiple files, because not everyone would want everything, but in this case there is only one file.

Is it possible in "torrent world" to simultaneously feed one file from several different trackers?  I know it can generally, but I should point out that I changed the torrent slightly.  The original video file was contained in a titled folder.  I deleted the folder and made my torrent just the video file.  I don't know about the pieces breakdown.  I do know that the original tracker could not find the file to seed it after I got rid of that uber-folder.

So, to those with more knowledge;  were these five jump-seeders, or is something else I don't understand at work.

Even if we assume these ARE partial jump-seeders, it doesn't seem to have helped them much.  Only one of the five has a ratio over 1.0.  This can change over time, but I think you were concerned that jump-seeders would suck all the ratio away from "true" downloaders, so you wanted to make a site law against.  As you can see, and I have been saying, the people who sucked all the ratio away from the swarm, including from me, were the five "power-seeders" at the top, with ratios from 3.7 to 9.0 and still going strong.  Whoever that (anonymous) seeder is at the top, he needs to stop seeding and adjust his client to not hog all the ratio.  A site feature that helped this somehow could be useful.

Within a short time of you posting the torrent there were 11 seeders.  I would guess that no more than 1 or 2 downloaded from here.

Anyone who does download from here will have to contend with the others to upload a significant ratio of what they have acquired here.  It is not just your torrent, it is very widespread. And it is not just a matter of 1 or 2 jumping on.

If you want to test this, upload a torrent from another site and watch how many completions there are before you are anywhere near 1.0 on your torrent.

According to the more detailed info ThrobbinRod sent me in a private message, the 11 seeders corresponded to a snatched amount of 11 times, indicating no jump-seeding likely.

Just so everyone reading is clear:  the number of completions is exactly that - completed downloads from the site.  If someone gets a file from another site and jumps on to a torrent here, they get added to the seeder total only, not the completed total.

However, ThrobbinRod is correct in that a jump-seeder can take upload away from the initial seeder of a torrent.  He and I are arguing about how much this really happens in practice, but it is certainly possible in principle.
