    • RE: NEW feature: seed bonus gift!!!

      I agree this is a great idea.  :clap2:

      @dentedhalo:

      not a bad idea at all though i suspect that many users will be needing to keep their credit to keep their ratio up (like myself)

      But there are others, like ganatu and myself, who have big seed bonus numbers and no need to use them for ratio.  I will definitely be thanking people with points.

      @tom:

      maybe we add this accumulated value to our "most wanted torrents" calculation on start page, because this value will show even more how appreciated a torrent is, than only taking seeders/leechers/snatched into account….

      I saw that the gifted points are shown now with the other info on the "Browse" page, which is GREAT!  very useful in deciding what's worth looking at further.

      @TwjT3NEc:

      SEED BONUS GIFTS ARE APPRECIATED..especially by uploaders like me who have slow internet but I upload a lot..thanks!!!

      lol that was fast. I hope torrent descriptions don't get spammed with seed bonus requests…

      @ganatu:

      I really like this.  My ratio is over 2 so now I have something useful to do with my seed bonus. I can encourage uploads of the kinds of stuff that I like.

      Maybe there should be a policy against begging for seed-points in a torrent description.  I would rather not know if the uploader is needy until after I view the file.  It could color how I feel about giving, make me feel resentful instead of generous.  Better to have a forum section where people could post threads saying " I need points, and here are some torrents I uploaded where you can contribute."  Same forum could have upload requests, where users with points to burn could actively encourage certain types of uploads they want by stating a willingness to gift points.

      @Slippery:

      Thanks for making all those ideas integrate into the software.  I'm sure that was the hardest part and I'm guessing there are a few here doing the programming, not just one person.

      Here Here ! :worship:  :thankyou:

      @ThrobbinRod:

      You do make a good point as the original ripper.  But my question is why didn't you post to both at the same time? That would have avoided the problem. I have seen quite a few who do that.

      I am more likely to do that now, but it depends on where I upload it from.  I have access to a high speed line sometimes, but normal home line is slower, like most people.  Seeding a file on two site simultaneously splits the speed between them, causing the whole process to take longer to get a file seeded.  If it was just about me, I guess it wouldn't matter.  But I try to get the file out as fast as I can, to get the torrent cloud moving.

      I now feel as Uwe does.  Once I put it out there, it's not "mine" anymore.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      And I have some evidence that it is a bigger factor than you might imagine.

      It seems there would be two issues.

      1. How much does this jump-seeding occur?
            My inclination was not much, but if you have evidence otherwise, it would be interesting to see.
      2. How much does it really affect the ratio of others?
            My rough mental calculations would suggest that a couple of jump-seeders wouldn't be much of a factor on a torrent with lots of leechers, unless they made up a significant percentage of the cloud.  All things dissipate over large numbers.  A jump-seeder is only contributing one extra copy to the cloud.  If they seed to a ratio of 1.0 or so, not much impact.  Far more likely of a problem, causing others difficulty getting to a higher ratio, is power-seeding, regardless if they got the file here or elsewhere.  Power-seeders with strong upload ability can contribute many more copies to the cloud, which is really what throws off a ratio.  There is another thread elsewhere in the forum where power-seeding is discussed more in depth.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      How about some limitation on seeding torrents acquired elsewhere but posted here by someone else?

      For example - look at: http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=47070&dllist=1#seeders
      At the time I viewed it 16 of the 26 seeders had 0.0 kb downloaded for that torrent, meaning they got it from somewhere else.

      I get your point, in that if they DL it elsewhere, then it is counting against them on the other site and not here.  I doubt this is really that big a problem, though.  Just a hunch, not proven.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      At the time I viewed it 16 of the 26 seeders had 0.0 kb downloaded for that torrent, meaning they got it from somewhere else.

      As already mentioned, that's not a good way to tell if they got it here.  More correct, but tedious, would be to compare the names of the users in the "Peers" list (you can click for full list) with the users listed in "Snatch Details" at the bottom of the torrent page.  While some users have anonymous settings so not 100% accurate, it would exonerate someone who has a 0.0 DL currently (for reasons listed by mods here) but had, in fact, downloaded the file at this site.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      I have no problem with the original torrent poster having 0.0 because he took the time to share it here, but the others are just jumping in to inflate their own ratios at the expense of others who might need to upload.

      How about having the tracker reject all such attempts if the person's ratio is over 1.0 and he is not the poster? Give the rest of us a chance to give back what we download.

      At least limit the number of such active "seeders" after there are actual completions here.

      I think this kind of jump-on seeding would be hard to police.  Regardless of the technical problems (which I leave to the more knowledgeable), the question of fairness isn't as cut and dry as you say.  As example from my personal experience:  I ripped one of my DVD's and posted it on another site.  I was going to post here next, as soon as I had seeded enough on other site.  When I got here, someone else who had DLed it at the other site had posted it here before me.  So I added myself to the seeding pile, with a 0.0 DL of the file here.  In your scenario that makes me bad, but I was the original ripper and poster.  I am not complaining; I have posted files DLed from other sites occasionally as well.  Just pointing out that things are rarely as simply as they can seem.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      I wonder how many power users got their status this way?

      Not many.  It seems unfair, I know, but it just doesn't logically gain that much.  If they got it elsewhere, they probably took a hit to their ratio there (if the elsewhere has ratios).  So they couldn't play the transference game long.  And its a lot of trouble to go to on any sort of sustained basis.  My guess is most Power Users got that way through uploading new torrents and seeding fairly, and probably have an average-or-better upload speed.  Getting to PU isn't that hard; the ratio is only 1.05 and some time on the site.  It really doesn't take all sorts of cross-torrent machinations.

      @jaybeebrad:

      What I can't stand, or UNDERstand, is when the site says 7 people are seeding but I can't get it to transfer, or if I'm lucky it goes at 0.1kb/second. I'm downloading the ManifestMen collections right now and they really ought to have been done in a few hours with 7-ish seeders each, but they're not!

      Well, that really depends on the seeders upload rate.  7 seeders is not a lot if they all have slow uploads and its a big file.

      Yes, or sleeping. I just finished my morning tour through the Personal Messages, Helpdesk, Reports, Forum and now go to work.

      No sweat.  I didn't mean it as a complaint.  I was typing at 2:00 in the morning and left off some nicety, but I was just giving a status report.  It eventually got approved, and now has a good little swarm going, for a DVD-R.  So I am moving on to rip another disc in my collection for upload.

      @Uwe:

      Hello geekguy,

      As cumeaternc said, don't feel discouraged.

      As I did upload quite some full DVR-R, I noticed on these that the percentage of completed downloaders to seed is relatively low.

      My personal explanation: These take a lot of hard disk space and either it is deleted after watching, burned to DVD and deleted or moved to an external drive and the member doesn't know how to re-seed from there (or is just lazzy, doesn't need for ratio).

      This has as positive effect that members needing to improve their ratio can do so by staying seeding it.

      In addition, here on GayTorrent.ru the long survive of the torrent is not in danger.

      Sincerley yours'
      Uwe

      File isn't a full DVD-R, just an .avi.  Less than 600MB.

      I am trying to upload the DVD-R now, which is bigger and I totally get your reasoning there.  (Its been almost 5 hours with no approval yet.  I guess the mods are busy).

      @cumeaternc:

      I have a pretty good ratio and sometimes I will bow out of seeding a healthy torrent to give others with a lower ratio a chance.  Some people call it "overseeding" which also includes users with a fast upload speed thus denying guys with slower upload speeds a chance to succeed.  I may be overly optimistic but that may be what some users are doing.  Don't let it discourage you though.  Mods and Admins take note of good uploaders and will help out where needed.  In contrast we know who the super leechers are also and kinda remind them of their past behavior if they ever get in a bind. ;D

      Brandon

      Some users, sure.  I do that too.  But 2/3's?  But I am moving on.

      A few people dropping off may be for honest reason, but those numbers are way too high.

      So a day later, and there are 82 seeders out of 235 downloads; so still about 1/3 of total.  😞 😞

      I don't know why I am obsessing over this.  I guess its because it is my first DVD rip, and so it took me longer to make than just uploading a file from another website.  I want to know that the torrent lives healthy for people to enjoy it.

      Is this what childbirth is like?  :laugh:

      OK, so I ripped it with AnyDVD Ripper, but the WinAVI had a watermark, so i used Prism Video Converter to change to .avi files.  Then I joined them into one and seeded it.  Kind of roundabout, but it got the job done.

      Any better suggestions?

      If your not going to seed…

      DON'T DOWNLOAD!!!

      I posted a torrent for a file (Wild Rangers 2) a little over 4 hours ago.  File has been completely leeched 13 times, and only 4 (FOUR!) of those people are still in the swarm as seeders.    😠  😠  😠  😠  😠

      That's less than 1/3 of the first to get the file.  If enough people don't seed early on, the torrent will die real quick.

      I was on a LAN line with excellent upload rate, so I was able to get the file to people really fast.  Now I am home and seeding from home is more typical rate.  Where are the others?

      I just don't understand the mindset of people who take take take without giving back.  Even more than the issue of seeding to a ratio of 1.0, when you are among the first to get a file, it is critical to seed TIME.  That gets the ball rolling until enough have it to allow drop-outs.  And it allows me, the uploader, to stop uploading exclusively and get me some downloaded porn.

      So if you aren't going to share, wait a while to download the file, so you don't give the initial upload skewed numbers.

      Sorry about this rant, but I am really pissed off and venting.  😠  😠  😠

      I tried Fairuse twice yesterday and last night.  Both times it threw an error at the end, saying it sad to shut down and sorry for the inconvenience.  So I am trying AnyDVD Ripper now to see result.  Looks like it will give me a big VLC file, so I will have to convert with WinAvi.

      Is there a difference of quality, speed, etc. between Fairuse and AnyDVD and WinAvi  ???

      All three are available for download, but which is the best to use?

    • RE: Is gay marriage extremely important to you?

      @raphjd:

      But if we can question the gender requirements of the marriage definition, why not the number of participants?  Isn't that just another alternate lifestyle?  And if we start opening up that can, then there is a destruction of marriage in a sense.

      Heteros have been changing the definition of marriage throughout history.

      Incestuous marriage used to be legal.  Polygamy used to be legal.  Interracial marriage used to be illegal.  A Roman Emperor married his horse, which was legal under their laws at the time.  An Egyptian queen married her cat {was that a lesbian marriage, as it had 2 pussies in it 😛 }.

      Also, there has been gay marriage throughout history.  It's only that last few hundred years that it became frowned upon.

      I don't deny that marriage has been defined differently over different times and cultures.  The issue here is gay marriage in the 21st century, under the legal and societal structure of the west (especially America, where the issue is especially contentious).

      There is a compelling case for gay marriage.  But it seems that the logic of the case would cause us to expand into other relationships as well.  As a persecuted minority, gays are usually more sympathetic to other lifestyles that fall outside the mainstream.  Polygamy is one such lifestyle.  But because that is usually associated with religious fundamentalism, esp. Mormons, we deny the logical link.

      I return to my larger point.  The problem is not that gays need marriage to secure more rights, it is that too many rights/privileges are given to married couples in the first place.

    • RE: Is gay marriage extremely important to you?

      Important?  Not really.  I am generally against the idea of marriage for anyone, gay or straight.  That's the personal.

      As to the political / legal side of the issue, I struggle with it.  I guess it depends on how one defines "rights" in this context.  I have the right to marry a woman (don't want to) just like a straight man, and he cannot marry another man just like me, so we are "equal" in the sense that society has limited our options the same.  If the right is more abstract – the right to marry whomever one chooses, and have that recognized by the state -- well, then we are not equal.  BUT, defined in that manner, I cannot see how we can deny other freely-chosen relationships, like polygamy.  I have seen so many gay-marriage activists say that that is completely different.  But if we can question the gender requirements of the marriage definition, why not the number of participants?  Isn't that just another alternate lifestyle?  And if we start opening up that can, then there is a destruction of marriage in a sense.

      I know this won't happen, but my preference would be to take the government out of the "marriage" business altogether.  Why should any pair or trio or quadruple of people get special privileges over others, just for professing some affection for one another?  If I and my platonic roommate share expenses and buy some property together as an investment, why should my taxes be different than another pair of people who have sex together?  Marriage isn't just unfair for gays/lesbians, its unfair to straights who don't want to be married as well.

      I apologize in advance for getting a little off topic.  🙂

    • RE: THANK YOU GAYTORRENT.RU!!!! ;)

      @katyggls:

      I think you are way over generalizing about females. While I agree it's probably not as common for women to like gay male porn than it is for men to like lesbian porn, a lot of that has to do with the fact that many females feel a lot of shame/guilt about viewing ANY porn, let alone gay porn. Women are usually afraid that if someone finds out they watch porn, people will think they're slutty/whorish/like sex too much (in the world of women, being seen as liking sex too much gets you labeled as a whore/slut and abnormal).

      I think we have to remember a distinction made between katyggls (straight) and the original poster of this thread (lesbian), which started all the confusion.

      Kinda repeating myself from earlier…

      I don't think it that weird that katyggls likes gay porn, just like it's not weird for straight guys to like porn with lesbian action (very feminine, like juancho says).  The weirdness that got people going is; why would a LESBIAN want to watch gay porn, or a gay guy watch lesbian porn? That makes no sense to me.  Juancho, you got anything that explains that?!  (Not a dis, I find your previous arguments very compelling)

    • RE: Discussion about Power User rank.

      Maybe some distinction would need to be made about how the UPLOAD number was arrived at.
      Currently there are four ways to get upload credit:
      1. Donate
      2. Upload new torrents
      3. Help to seed a swarm after downloading a file
      4. Seed time bonus.

      They all have the same impact on your ratio, but not necessarily the same effect on the workings of the site.  The site would grind to a halt without #2.  #3 is great, but you don't want that number to be too high, because that is a zero-sum game and if some seed too much, others with slower DL speeds wind up unable to seed enough. (there is another thread in the forum about power seeding repercussions).  And #4 is a gift of the site.  Maybe those would affect different distinctions of Power Seeder?
