I'm sorry to add, I have two pre-teen nieces, and they are spoiled and ungrateful, while having every advantage in life. They are not interested in bonding with their fun uncle -- I have tried! -- but always eager to see that holiday envelope or package in the mail.

Another point that bears mention when purchasing external hard drives:

Even if you wait for a sale (a good idea) and get an extra for use in a month or later this year, it is IMPERATIVE that you immediately test the external hard drive on your computer. These delicate black boxes are often busted in shipping to the store, or delivered to your home via online purchase.

I've had a particularly bad run of luck, with two of the last four 8TB externals I bought -- broken. One was very obvious -- you could hear the parts rattling just by giving the drive a gentle shake. In the other case, I waited until day 26 of a 30-day return policy, and then found that in shipping, the interior had become loose and no longer aligned with the opening for the cable, and thus was useless.

Actually, I made that return yesterday, so the topic was very much on my mind! Hope it will help someone avoid an unpleasant discovery.

If the uploader could be identified, is there potentially some degree of legal recourse related to various "revenge porn" laws being enacted in the U.S.?

Yes, this is the problem in a nutshell. New Utorrent is certain to freeze on me, though the freeze is slightly delayed if I reduce the # of active torrents or delete torrents altogether. As I'm more of a seeder than an uploader, this prevents me from "paying it back" with as much gusto as I'd like. Out of frustration, I have stopped waiting for the Error Reports to be sent (Utorrent already has 100 or so of mine -- assuming that the function works!).

While I am using the free U version, as I suspect many are, it's infuriating that this product has actually been "updated" into an unusable state. I can't see how a broken free version would incent users to upgrade to the pay version, or to any other products it might offer in future.

@bc22 Thanks, your post and article illustrate how the LGBT human rights situation in the countries of the former Soviet Union has largely gone from bad to worse, with the possible exception of the Baltic states.

At the same time, I think advocating on social media for gay rallies at Uzbek Muslim holy sites is an aggressive, ill-chosen strategy. The blogger behind these posts is described as straight, and unfortunately suffered serious injuries, but I find his efforts naive and needlessly provocative for a developing Muslim country.
