RE: Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?
Perhaps a good suggestion would be, if someone can successfully re-seed a dead torrent, the system would automatically bump it back to the top without the need for staff to recycle it manually?
Problem solved...one less torrent in the "old void". -
RE: Upload Limit
@pmrrk Frankly, I've encountered the same thing once in awhile...I get to a point where uTorrent says I'm seeding but no data is going through after a certain limit.
It's likely because, once many others have snatched your torrent and are seeding, you may simply have a slower speed connection than they do, and so they become the primary seeders. I found this online:
Or you are a member of a private tracker with a ton of fast seeds (seedboxes etc) and the peers with a small connection meet difficulties to upload especially when the number of seeders per torrent is really huge in comparison with the number of leechers.
Basically, there's probably nothing you can do about this situation if enough others with better or faster connections are seeding. I think also especially if there are no leechers downloading (I've noticed this same thing also), then later on leechers hop onboard. You get "ignored" in favor of the people with better connections who are seeding.

RE: Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?
@eobox91103 said in Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?:
If your point had been clearer, I wouldn't have missed it.
Was your original question answered? If so, what is that answer?
No, my original question wasn't answered. My point was rather clear in the first and last sentences, which summed it up:
"Lately I've noticed a couple of torrents someone has uploaded as a new torrent, even though the exact same files are already here as an existing "dead" torrent, instead of simply trying to re-seed the existing one."
"It just doesn't make sense to post something as new when an existing torrent can simply be re-seeded."So, back to my original point(s):
- Why re-post identical files when an existing "dead" torrent, with the exact same files, can simply be re-seeded?
- I said nothing about reporting a "new" torrent as a duplicate of an existing "dead" torrent if the files are identical. I meant in the sense of pointing out to staff that the "new" one was unnecessary when the existing "dead" one could simply have been re-seeded.

RE: Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?
@eobox91103 You missed my point, which was not about duplicates but about re-seeding an existing torrent...and as far as it not "showing" at the top, well all one has to do is use the Helpdesk and ask for the torrent to get bumped by staff.
Problem solved. -
Re-uploading existing torrent instead of re-seeding existing one?
Lately I've noticed a couple of torrents someone has uploaded as a new torrent, even though the exact same files are already here as an existing "dead" torrent, instead of simply trying to re-seed the existing one. I can understand some uploaders may not be able to re-seed the existing torrent (I've had that issue myself on occassion), but it sometimes appears that the uploader of a "new" torrent hasn't even bothered to either try or even search on the same existing files here.
What is the policy on this, and how/can such a "new" torrent be reported? It just doesn't make sense to post something as new when an existing torrent can simply be re-seeded.

QTM (Quick Torrent Maker) no longer works?
I tried twice today to create and post a torrent (The Guy Site Halloween Special) using Quick Torrent Maker...and had to delete it twice because I got an error message when trying to load the .torrent into uTorrent. It said something about an "invalid torrent file" or something. I then successfully uploaded my torrent doing it directly on the site...and had no problems with it that way.
It's my considered thought that because of that certificate update on the site a week ago, QTM will no longer work, and needs to be revised/updated somehow to correctly work with the new certificate on the site. I've never had any issues using QTM in the past, and I think this certificate change is the reason I had the problem today.
Mods and Admins please take note, and has anyone else had an issue with QTM since the certificate change?

RE: How i can download
Seriously? There's a Download link right there underneath every video. How can you miss that? :afr:

RE: TIM TALES??
why is it that this torrent forum - deletes all Tim Tales and Lucas Entertainment clips ? i only can upload them for less then 24 hrs before they are taken down ?
Then why even bother uploading videos which people know will be removed due to the DMCA? Any material that is known to become a DMCA violation should simply be banned/forbidden from the site. That would save a lot of time and effort. Doesn't that make sense? Why bother uploading it in the first place then?

RE: People creating torrets merging multiple files into a single huge video
People creating torrets merging multiple files (pictures and videos) into a single huge video to force people to download the whole torrent instead of sharing the individual files so anyone can download what they want.
This shouldn't be allowed! It's a loophole to increase the uploader's upload ratio.
IMHO it depends on how long the original videos they downloaded were. If the original videos were only, say for example, 5 minutes long, then I don't see why they shouldn't be joined into a single video (let's say 90 to 120 minutes?).
On the other hand, for non-porn, etc., tv episodes or original film shorts (like some in those short film collections on DVD) where the original short is only 15 minutes or so, and each short is unrelated to the next one, then those should be left as is. Some people upload the original individual short films anyway, so I see no point to joining together al the shorts in a collection (like the Boys On Film series, etc.).
What irks me are when I see someone who has done a rip of a DVD, for example, and a 2 hour movie has been split into separate video segments…apparently according to the individual VOB files on a DVD. That's just bad ripping.
That should be forbidden here...if a movie (I can't think of any specific examples at the moment) hasn't been ripped as one single video, then it shouldn't be uploaded. Period. No matter what some may think of that (and I've seen some people comment here about "At least they uploaded it", etc.).
Things like that should not be broken up...they should be kept in their original whole, entire form...not segmented.
Except for the examples you gave...the one thing I disagree with are photos (non-video images) which have been turned into a video slideshow...IMHO that's pointless. Just upload the original JPG (or whatever format) as they originally were...not joined into a video slideshow. -
RE: Does anyone know about gay-torrents.org?
Good site and a lot of great stuff there. One of the mods seems to have gotten around on that and a couple of other gay sites, so one sometimes sees him sharing the same stuff around, but I'd recommend it.
Unfortunately I didn't use my limited invites (which expired), so I can't send you one, but maybe someone else here can. -
RE: Nvm…ignore this post, basic mistake...
omg I'm soooo idiot and embarrassed! unbelievable…Thank you for pointing it out.
I got a good laugh out of it because it's exactly the kind of mistake I would make, myself!
LOL…kinda like "Where are my sunglasses?" :blind: ..."On your head".

RE: Nvm…ignore this post, basic mistake...
Most search engines either on or off a site are case-insensitive…that just makes sense because otherwise there's no way to know if what is being searched for is case-sensitive. The only time I've seen otherwise is for some log-ins or passwords on a site…there they tell you your username or password is case-sensitive…that's obviously for security reasons.

RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
As for Democracy, this is a Private gay site with the emphasis on the word private.
Except…without the Users/Downloaders, this site wouldn't be here. It may be a Private site, and there may be a specific owner, but you can't run the site by only what the owner/mods say goes. The Users have to have some input, otherwise what's the point of even having the site?

RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
Well, to keep this short, instead of some of the long college thesis that have been posted here  :cheesy2: , IMHO if someone can make a valid and reasonably logical defense for something being here (instead of just saying "It's gay!", or something like that), then it should be left alone and stay here.
Not some crazed interpretation or subjectively applied subtext, but something which does make sense.Just IMHO…

RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
@bc22:
In some parts of the world, it can be offensive to call someone out on any form of competency. Perhaps if one must, maybe a better phrase could be something like Culturally Aware.
That's an excellent point…a much better term.

RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
Now, I will say I don't think it's important that Hitchcock films are available on gay torrent sites because they are so widely available elsewhere. What is important to have on gay torrent sites is gay-themed films with little distribution and availability elsewhere. If someone wants to torrent Rope (or RuPaul's Drag Race, for that matter), there are dozens of torrent sites to choose from.
I beg to differ a bit…the reason I come to a gay-themed torrent site is precisely so I don't have to go elsewhere for movies and shows featuring gay themes or characters...this way, everything is in one place. Regardless whether any of the downloads can be found elsewhere. That's the entire point of having gay themed torrent sites (of which I belong to four, including this one).

RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
Good move, 2222…
Many Hitchcock films have had subtle (and not-so-subtle) homoerotic subtext and themes, whether or not someone agrees with that evaluation.
As Bear said, much has been written about (in particular) Rope, Strangers On A Train, and Psycho and even North By Northwest (Martin Landau's character of Leonard is an obsessed homosexual who is "devoted" to James Mason). Just on the homoerotic subtext and implied themes, all of those movies I just mentioned all belong here. They've also all been written about in numerous books on gay cinema over the years. -
RE: Only CULTURALLY COMPETENT users should remove torrents from Themed Movies / TV
@2222 - I agree…this entire discussion has gotten way out of line here, and (IMHO) specifically because of one particular person's excessive rantings.
1, As you said...the Comments in a torrent are the spot for someone to ask the Uploader how an upload qualifies as being gay-valid to belong here, if the reason hasn't been made clear in the Description (which I always try to do), or isn't obvious by the poster or screenshots.
2, Once again I have to state that Hitchcock's Rope belongs here. Period. The two main characters are as gay as they could possibly be for a late 40's movie...they're certainly prissy enough. The movie has also always been included in any book I've ever read on the subject of the history of gay cinema, particularly in legendary author Vito Russo's seminal classic The Celluloid Closet.
3. Once again...I say if someone has doubts or questions (as I do sometimes)...TRY using Google and looking a movie up for the gay references or characters. Most of the time, you will find the explanation there (although not always 100% of the time). If you can't find an answer as to the gay relevance, then politely ask the Uploader in the Comments as to the gay relevance.
