@eobox91103 having a torrent become freeleech WILL make it more available, that is one of the purposes of freeleeching.
the freeleech program exists with the purpose of reviving old torrents and preventing them from going dead. if there is at least one seeder, that's enough to request a freeleech.
peers cannot always contact one another for several reasons like NAT issues, and if there are only one or two seeders, the chances of your client being able to connect to them is reduced. you can both stay active for days and never connect to each other.
there is a torrent i added to my client back in february, with only 1 seeder. it only started downloading after 30 days, when a second member started seeding.
freeleeching increases the demand for that torrent, with more people trying to connect, eventually it will start seeding to someone.
note: in a freeleech scenario, having lots of people "fighting" for 1 seeder has no disadvantage whatsoever, the person will seed at the highest speed they can regardless of the amount of leechers. the bandwidth will be split between everyone, each person is sent different parts of the files, and everyone starts to share pieces between themselves, so the downloading time is essentially unaffected.
