This may be all moot - my ratio went from 0.815 to  0.816 and that is with probably about  three fourth's of a day or more of only seeding- and I can't seem to figure out to upload an entire DVD file…....

Perhaps it got off topic because of that blue mention and us trying to give advises.

The most sad thing is, that currently we have no human resources available to do modifications on the main site and tracker, even not to re-introduce fixes for things which were already fixed before the February 2010 server issue.

But basically I'd like to have normal users to see these torrents, too, to give them an incitive to strive to become a Power User (needs a share ratio of 1.05, 40 GB of upload and 30 days membership at this moment to get that status).

Did you stop seeding in-between and then after restarted? The displayed upload on GayTorrent.ru is only showing the upload since the last start. In addition the tracker is update only each 30 minutes.

Only the global upload and download counter are adding up all together (the reports received from your torrent programme by our tracker).

And make sure to rip from the DVD the complete VIDEO_TS folder, not only the main movie title files.

The users will have to get the torrent. Not seeing the DVD-R torrents in the Browse or Search, makes that very difficult. Basically it can happen, if:

• The torrent was in the wrong category and later moved to DVD-R
• On own uploaded new torrents (listed in the original uploader Profile) and then moved to DVD-R by Staff

This topic is about making the treasure of DVD-R torrents visible to non-Power Users, but blocking their download. I had always doubts if this hiding is intended by the Administrators for some reasons.

If not by the tracker (which would have to distinguish between the OP and others, I've difficulties to imagine the programme), by the site not allowing to get the .torrent file with the "Download" buttons.

That all kind of music is tolerated here, is of historic reason. This being rather a visual content tracker, muisc torrents are rather an exception.

If it would come to allow only "Gay" music torrents, with the difficulties to define what is "Gay" music, the result will rather be to allow no more music torrents.

Currently we reached that stage for music videos, not to be approved any more and AA privilege member uploads of those moved away. Unfortunately an according rule is still pending to be published …

Suggestions on how to determine in an objective and quick manner (without need to watch a movie !) if a movie or TV emission is of Gay Interest are welcome.

That is a question to which we search an answer ourself.

Gay people are normal people and therefore will like what other people like. No question. However this is not a general interest tracker and site, but a Gay Torrent and Forum site.

Therefore allowed are Gay Themed movies and TV Shows, Documentaries, Feature Films or Series. While there are quite a lot Gay Themed movies, there are much less clearly Gay Themed TV emissions.

IMHO, because there exist very few "pure" G(LBT) TV channels and on general TV channels they must find audience in a general public, usually meaning that the gay aspect is often not the main aspect in a film (or sometimes very caricature). There are only very few TV series with clear gay centred like Queer as Folk (my preference is for the UK original) or Ricky and Steve.

We would like to allow movies and TV emissions of "Gay Interest", but fail for the time being to define how to determine if something is of special gay interest or not in a quick and objective way, needed for torrent approval and as guide to uploaders.

Personally for approval I look to reviews on the internet like IMDb or Wikipedia and others(especially if not Engish)  to see if there the gay or gay interest aspect is mentioned. I think "Dr Who" will fail such a check.

However on your torrents you risk to get a message that they are disapproved, because they are not seeded for our tracker and don't appear in the primary approval queue.

Usually it is because you didn't load the re-downloaded small .torrent file into your torrent programme, but the torrent created before uploading it. Go to the description and load from there the torrent.

That torrent got as well more than 240 seeder, so the 4 leecher don't need to download from you.

You should try to seed torrents you've completed with less seeder per leecher, for example "Chaosmen - Heath & Jasper : Labor Day - FLIP .." the ratio is 10x better

Then you Transmission is not connectible for our tracker.
-You need to open the port it uses (see the Transmission connection settings yo know the number) in your firewall for incoming connections.

• The portforwarding or Network Adress Translation (NAT) from your router (or WiFi access point which includes the router function) to your Mac must be as well configured correctly for your Mac's local IP and that port. Alternatively you can use UPnP (if your modem/router/AP supports it)  and/or NAT-PMT (Apple Airport) to get it setup automatically

Being connectible eases the upload (and download). Without it isn't impossible, but works less well.

If you have unprotected DVD files, I'd suggest to use Handbrake. It will create either MP4, M4V (for some Apple device compatibiliy) or MKV and you can set quite a lot of encoding parameters, but got "Profiles" with default working settings.

Else in Quality for Size ranging from best to worst:

AVC (as well known as h.264 or by a codec x.264 or MPEG-4 Part 10)
MPEG-4 (best known codecs DivX and Xvid)
MPEG-2 (used for DVD)
MPEG-1 (used for VCD)

Many DVD player can handle AVI with MPEG-4 files.
While the playback of MOV, MP4 and MKV is generally limited to HDTV devices (Digital TV set-top-boxes, Blu-ray Disc players).

MOV and MP4 are quite similar container (usually used for MPEG-4 or AVC).

RM is known to make small file sizes and bad quality (may be because of excessive low bitrate settings while encoding).

WMV should be comparable to MPEG4 and AVC

In the above list, it is reverse for calculation power for encoding and decoding, the better require more power, respectively encoding time.

In short, for your clip, either MPEG-4, AVC or MOV would have been a better choice

In that actual case it looks to be a .MPG. If it is rightly done, it is just the re-packaging of the video stream and one audio stream in a .VOB without decoding / re-encoding (and therefore without quality loss).
The result is a similar size than the .vob (minus the lost content like subtitle sub-pictures, menus and additional audio streams).
Unfortunately some conversion programmes don't allow changing the container without decoding / re-encoding and will therefore create quality losses even if excessive bit rates (and therefore resulting file size) are chosen for video and audio.

As discussed earlier, instead of uploading a DVD in parts, it is better to share all the VIDEO_TS folder content (.IFO , .BUP and .VOB) in one torrent, giving the full DVD experience with menus, extras, subtitles and multiple languages audio.

Mmm not quite. That number is calculated by the system, based on your average speed. Which means: the faster the speed - the more torrents allowed. If you don't intend to upgrade the connection, your number will remain the same.

It is based on the ever seen all time highest average. 1 torrent, plus 1 more for each 20kB/s average exceeded.

So if your upload rate is above 20kB/s while uploading a new torrent, you have a chance to increase it. However you should avoid long seeding periods with no or low upload rates, pulling the average down.

Note as well, that we don't have a limit in seeding torrents while no new* torrent is seed and you could start all your uploaded torrents and completed downloads (with a limit in the range of 50) if you limit the number of active torrents** to something reserving about 10 kB/s in average per active torrent.

• new = initial upload until 3 other seeds appeared
  ** active = starting seeding and having actual data transfer. As Vuze/Azureus user you'll need to change the out-of-the box setting. I think noughty indicated them to you.

You have completed the upload of the 604 MB file in less than 90 minutes (first leecher completed his download after 87 minutes).

This makes an average upload rate of about 115 kB/s, which for an ADSL line is an excellent value and largely high enough to upload a full double layer DVD (which can reach more than 8 GB).

BTW: Like mgr I prefer the highest possible quality and are prepared to take the longer download time to complete. I thought that was clear in my earlier first posting on this subject.

Splitting in mpg parts and upload one after the other doesn't make things better. If you repack .vob into mpg, the movie file size will be very similar and the menus and extra of the DVD lost. This while the overall download time to get all parts will be similar.

Really you can share full DVD VIDEO_TS folder or ISO images.

Is that the full movie or just a change of a .vob into an mpg, means not the complete movie?

No one is downloading it yet, because it isn't approved. I was waiting with the approval for you answer to the same question in my previous message.

Why don't you go directly to a full DVD Video upload?

Note a 1.26 GB version AVI of this movie does already exist.

Just to remark: It was not me saying that about 1 GB should be the right  size … simply because I hunt for full DVD and some take me weeks and months to complete. (Currently I am downloading a DVD DL since 34 days and the estimated time to go is more than another week, there is one seed in the 1 to 2 kB/s area).

If a full DVD upload can be finished in a week, that seems for me a still acceptable endeavour. We have a set of rules targeting to reduce the complete distribution time of new torrent's files for the confort of the downloader [1]. However if these are respected, the downloader just have to accept that big file uploads may take a long time and to thank the uploader for the file they get. It is only the initial upload phase which may be long, the download speed will be much faster as soon as the swarm got in hold of a complete distributed copy.

Not sure, the .mpg is made from what, a single .vob file?

What guys like mgr and me are looking for is the content of the full VIDEO_TS folder (directory), means all the .ifo , .bup and .vob files (to repeat all), respectively the single .iso file. A torrent programme in the new torrent creation menu will ask if you want to create a torrent from a single file or a directory (read folder). There you need to choose "Directory" and then point to the VIDEO_TS folder which you have renamed by the movie title before.

If you want to make a compressed version of the DVD main movie, I can recommend "Handbrake", either version 0.93 if you really want an AVI or the latest if an .MKV or .MP4 is acceptable for you. It can load the files of a VIDEO_TS folder, detects the main movie and got Profiles for different devices to play later the file on. Then you need to make some trials to find the settings satisfying you.

So I took a look. Unfortunately, you need more SBP, because your are missing about 2 GB of upload. You've uploaded quite some torrents and got astonishing few Seed Bonus points. Therefore I've given you 50.

Sometimes I wish each downloader who completed would give a single (1, one) SBP as thank you. That is few for each, but the total of these will be a big amount.
