The first thing you need to be clear about, is that you got two IP addresses:

1/ Your public IP of your modem/router to the outside world. Here a static IP eases the tracking if one is asking your ISP about the identity of the user of that IP. If that IP is allocated dynamically by you ISP, he likely keeps log files for some period (may be 6 months or so, I don't know USA laws), which together with time information will enable to identify the subscriber. Though this has been proven to be not 100% reliable.

2/ You local network, typically using IPs in the 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx ranges reserved for this local uses. Your router will give each device connected it's own IP in your local network. It gots a function called port forwarding or Network Address Translation (NAT) to send an incomming request on a port to a specifique device. This works only if you give in your PC network connection properties a fixed local IP (or all your torrent programme, computer system and touter/modem support and have activated UPnP, respectively the Mac equivalent NAT-PMT)

Think to this your PC being a visitor in a hotel with a manual telephone switch board. Your router/modem being the rectionist. Someone calls the hotel telephone number (public IP) and ask for guest (port) X, the receptionist looks which room he got and connects to his room number (local IP).

If that is not set-up correctly, incomming request will usually not reach your torrent programme and will not be answered, result lower seeding rates.

.bin files are typically (small) binary files and it is true they are associated with VLC (on my PC, too). The .bin files I know personally are firmware updates for consumer electronic devices like TV, digital set-top-boxes, DVD player etc. …, they rare not big some MB at most.

As you thing to have downloaded a media file, I assume a movie, it must be another use of .bin files, which is for CD-R images, similar to the more common .ISO. That leads to the following possible solutions:

A/ ImgBurn: A CD/DVD image burning software being able to burn discs from .BIN files. hxxp://www.imgburn.com/ .

B/ CDMage to convert the .bin to ISO. hxxp://www.videohelp.com/download/CDmage1-01-5.exe and then a virtual disc player like Daemon Tools Lite hxxp://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/products/dtLite or WinCDEmu hxxp://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/ to open the file and extract the data/movie files by a drag and drop from the virtual disc drive.

All above mentioned software tools are Freeware

Fist, you should do two things:

I) Change the file view option to see the file extensions (.avi, .mov, .mp4, .mkv, etc…): Start > Control Panel > Folder Options (in clssic view) > View > uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

II) Install MediaInfo (free software) and in the options activate the shell extentsions. Then you see 3mediaInfo" in the drop down list if you right click on a media file and selecting it, a screen with details of the encoding will open.

In the next step, tell us which container (.mkv, .avi, .mp4 , .mov), which video codec (from MediaInfo) and audio codec (from MediaInfo). You then can as well see if your ConvertX or DVD Flick can handle such input files from their specifications.

If these converter use the Windows decoding of media files befor encoding to DVD format, it coulld already help to install the Haali Media Splitter and fddshow tryouts (one of the latest SVN builts), respectively fddshow MPEG-4 based on them. This should NOT be needed with Windows 7, comming with much improved media file support compared to XP and Vista.

2011-07-08 17:31:54 Torrent 110808 (out.of.hand.having.a.peek.at.orgy) was deleted by proem (broken file. I attached the wrong one. sorry.)

Dead torrents are as well occasionally removed and there are still "missing" torrent file descriptions which are to be treated. Both can be followed in the Log.

Well, there is already the Log > http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/log.php and a function allowing to write to all peers of a torrent is AFAIK on te to-do list since months (or years).

That nobody gets me wrong: I am all for rewarding uploaders ! and give voluntarly my Seed Bonus Points. There are as well other ways:

• Clicking the thank you! button w/o giving points
• Making a nice comment if the upload was longly waited for or much liked (I love such comments on my own uploads)

I am just questioning if it shouldn't be the members who download rather than the site …

The current experience shows that the howl thing is not practicable, because of the time it takes. Nevertheless, I'll continue a little the trial with a shorter and more downloader expectation (rather than approval moderator) definition of the list and criteria.

Then at it's end. I stop the trial and distribute my SBP totally subjectively and by stomach. We will keep all together it's experience, which at least shows that objective verifiable criteria are possible (without to conclude on which are the good to retain and details of their individual definition).

Actually, why should the tracker which by it's existence is already facilitating the exchange, give extra rewards to the uploader ? Isn't that rather a task for the community here? I see many users sitting on SBP …

Here or in another topic was mentioned to give occasionally some extra seed bonus points out (birthdays, site university, christmas, chinese new year, ... what ever ...), which that could be spread by the members.

Torrents with corrupted files need to be reported.

Staff will try the most possible to verify if the report is founded or not.
If yes, the file will be removed from the public list. This avoids more members to download these bad files.

Just a plea, before reporting, try to be sure as much as possible it is not due to the software / hardware you use to playback (codecs installed, hardware DVD player don't play HD codecs or HD resolution, etc…)

At the risk of sounding snarky, at this point, I'm thankful for being my auto-approval status.  No expectations...no disappointment.

Expectation is the issue. If points are offered, it seems it is expected to get 100% of them for 120% of work, but 95% of result.

Some items in the list are driven by what is expected me as Moderator to help on approval:

• Alternative studio / titles
• Clip identifying picture
• Clip / Series numbers
• Studio name
• No QTM periods
• Comprehensive file names

All this help searching and as such will help members to search and find what they are looking for, respectively to have as much as possible information to search on the web more information about it.

As said early, the two tags items are there to get more uploads tagged, because without having the torrents in the existing library of torrents tagged, a transfer to a better system of tags once programmed will have less use. Only if torrents are tagged, a search by tags will be powerful. Without the torrents be tagged, it is dead.

In case it interest, my own uploads would get about 16 points following that list and they make me a lot of work.

I've well recognized that a lot of efforts were done with that description and just showed that despite of it, the objectively verifiable criteria which were layout weren't full meat.

Of course the criteria listed are chosen with a personal target of what makes a good description, and the one here discussed is a good IMHO (and got 19 points !), but still each point is objectively verifiable.

Please all notice this has been from the beginning a trial and to put emphasis on it, the word trail is no put in bold size 4 letters in the opening post. It was always there. It is not meant to be definitive or ultimate. It is subject to changes during the trial.

This trial in live permits to test and fine-tune that list and the details of the criteria, as well as their formulations.

I regret that when asking for help to formulate an objectively verifiable criteria for what a few good pictures mean, no proposal was made. Instead at the next occasion there is complaint that no points were given for (such) pictures …
Until someone gets up with a better definition it is :
"- 3 pictures from the movie, clip or picture collection, size at least SD size (576 pixel width, height at least 40% of width) or the resolution of the movie"

To note that with the latest adaptation of the criteria this morning, the before discussed torrent upload would have meat 21 points and gotten therefore the 20 max.

The initial post has been edited by adding in 2 new points and modifying one:

• an item for numbering of movies, clips or TV series provided

• an item for 3 SD pictures from the upload

• 10 pictures have no special requirement (but must be related to the upload according to the site rules)

Next step is to apply these changes for a few days.

Then follows the trial to publish the check list differently (most likely in the member's trial section)

Finally, I have decided to limit this trial to 2 weeks, because of the findings so far:

• much work
• no feedback at all from uploaders having got points except 1 (not being happy)
• general feedback allowed already to fine-tune the scheme
• my summer holidays :cheers:

yes, I clicked on it and even looked to the picture properties. It is 1023 pixel of width, with 5 pictures a row and large black bars between them. So the size of each thumbnail  is far below 200 pixel, less than the said 240 pixel in the requirements.  You shall have noticed that I earlier said:

What you wanted needs programming on the site. As said upon, that can be done only by the one Administrator working part of his free time on that. Moderators can not change anything on that part of the system.

The points and the requirements there have been set-up in a way to make it objectively verifiable. If a point is not checked OK, it means it simply objectively does not meet the requirement formulated.

Nobody is forced to follow these requirements, every body is free to do it as he likes, as long as the site Rules (not the Well Prepared Torrent Upload Reward list) are respected. In the same way, there is no obligation Moderators are giving their SBP !

What do you think about adding a simple line "Download Page Reputation Points" (or something like that) and of course show the points earned. The words "Reputation Points" can link to the FAQ or forum thread we develop later explaining it all. As with the Seed Bonus points being visible on the torrent search page, "Rep Points" can be visible too. Just a suggestion. ...

There was a comment made by a member not liking the Well Prepared Torrent Upload Reward Check Lists made as a comment, making me start to think in a similar direction for that trial .

On the other side, I like to make the points given under that trail transparent and therefore thought to a link in the description to a unique topic where the lists are stored (at least for a starting period)
