    • RE: Do you ever watch straight porn? What about lesbian porn?

I've watched straight porn a few times to see some actors I thought were attractive:  James Deen and Jordi el Nino Polla.
I've watched some bisexual porn - I really like Shifting Gears with Cameron Marshall.

The thing I don't get - and I've asked straight male friends about this - is why do all the female porn actors look like Barbie Doll Whores.  (I get that drag queens are imitating them with the garish make-up and big artificial hair).  Why not have a fantasy about a policewoman who looks like an actual policewoman or a nurse who looks like she works for a living - trust me 6 inch stilleto heels are not something you wear when you'll be on your feet for 12 hours.  It's always the 'slutty' hallowe`ew costumes, the chemical damage hair, shaved body/public hair, and make-up applied with a putty knife.

I think i could handle looking at a woman who looked like an average woman.  These sex-dolls hit the uncanny valley factor for me.

    • RE: Does it bother you to watch porn movies which include actors who are deceased?

      It's bothered me twice.

1/  Watching a bare-back scene from a late 70s movie where I knew that scene is the one where he was infected with HIV.

2/  A 'straight' actor in Sean Cody who was so desparate to please and be liked.  Though the progressions in his scenes he became more and more of a 'pig bottom'.  After he killed himself, I now see those scenes as pathological.

AS to musicians/actors; it sometimes bothers me with them if the death were untimely.  I watch David Bowie's last two mucis videos with the knowledge that he was talking about his death.  There was a Canadian 'young adult' tv show where two of the main cast were killed in an accident immediately after shooting a specific scene.  Watching Carrie Fisher share a scene with Mark Hamill where they were saying goodbye to one another was troubling.  As was watching Anton Yelchin as Chekov in his last movie.

It feels as if they were part of our life although we were never a part of their lives.

    • RE: THIS or THAT: the game

My preferences for parties are pretty boring by most standards:  playing games, watching movies & discussing them, one-on-one talks.

Going to the movies by yourself or with a group of friends?

    • RE: What are your top three to ten news stories from 2017?

A follow up to a prediction I made in one of my top news stories.

Today, January 21 2018, the Turkish government invaded Syria - not to fight ISIS - but to fight Kurdish forces who are in theory their ally against ISIS.  While the USA has been arming both the Turks and the Kurds it is undecided whether the USA will try to get Turkey to stop.

    • RE: American Gods – Are You a Fan, or Curious?

I love American Gods and am looking forward to Season two.

Scenes i loved:  Anansi coming to America, Mr. Jacquel and the Egyptian woman, Media as David Bowie and Media as Marilyn Monroe.

Characters I like:  I like the Leprechaun.  I liked the three Star Sisters.  Media is great.  Vulcan was interesting.  I like Anubis, Thoth, Easter, Anansi, the cab driver, and the Djinn.  I thought Low-Key was horribly underused.  Techno-Kid is an enjoyably unlikeable snot.

I'm less impressed by the main characters.  While Media is seductive, powerful, and capable of nastiness; Globalization is smarmy.  Moon is growing on me now that he's being less stupid.  Wednesday is so much less than he should be.  Dead Girl could become interesting if she starts taking responsibility for her actions.

    • RE: The death of Christianity in the U.S. Has it really died?

Part of where I'm coming from is (reknowned Jewish Atheist and Evolutionary biologist) Dr. Stephen J, Gould's theory of Non-Overlapping Magisteria.

He defines the term magisterium as "a domain where one form of teaching holds the appropriate tools for meaningful discourse and resolution."[105] The non-overlapping magisteria (NOMA) principle therefore divides the magisterium of science to cover "the empirical realm: what the Universe is made of (fact) and why does it work in this way (theory). The magisterium of religion extends over questions of ultimate meaning and moral value. These two magisteria do not overlap, nor do they encompass all inquiry."[105] He suggests that "NOMA enjoys strong and fully explicit support, even from the primary cultural stereotypes of hard-line traditionalism" and that NOMA is "a sound position of general consensus, established by long struggle among people of goodwill in both magisteria."

Christianity tends to define 'religion' as a synonym for 'belief in God'.  They're wrong.  A lot of religious communities include Atheists.  Some belief systems exclude the existence of 'gods'.

If we talk about the growing number of 'Nones' only in terms of what they don't believe rather than what they do believe we're not going to understand what is going on.

    • RE: The death of Christianity in the U.S. Has it really died?

The question whether 'religion' will die in the USA is different from the question will 'Christianity' die in the USA.

The article argues that the version of Christianity that has become dominant in the USA has diverged too much from the teachings of Jesus to be considered 'Christianity".  But Christians have been arguing about Heresy going back to the Nicene Council.

It's not an argument that Mainline forms of Christianity are declining in the USA (Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic et al.) and are being replaced by various forms of secularism.  There is an argument whether it's healthier for Christianity to be a church of the Believers rather than a church of convenience ie. It's good when people have to make an effort.

MY OPINION:  institutional Christianity in the USA, and in the West in general, is being replaced by non-institutional forms of religion.  Whether "spiritual but not religious' or 'I'm a Christian who doesn't belong to a church' or 'I go to an Independent church that puts on Rock concerts'; people are opting out of large communities.  That's a dramatic change in the history of the Church.

    • RE: What kind of music you guys like?

      I love Carole Pope.

Another Canadian queer band that had mainstream success with a gay rights anthem was The Parachute Club with Rise Up.  It's a lot more pop.

    • RE: Your favorite gay erotic comics??

Tom of Finland published a group of comics called "Kake".  My fovourite TOF comic is Pleasure Park.

Another older gay graphic artist was Sean who did several comics as well as individual panels.  My favorite of his is "Dune Buggers".

Out of the modern, my favourite is Josman's "Family Tradition".

In the '80s and early 90s i was park of a punk collective who put on shows twice a month.  Some of the shows involved Queercore bands.

I'd also helped Will Monroe in Toronto organize Vaseline - which was a set of Queer parties..

      Ahem

If someone is living with their girlfriend/boyfriend; you aren't in a relationship with them - they're just cheating with you.

This is the definition of a no-prize.  You get someone who doesn't bother staying faithful.

    • RE: Why is this ad considered racist?

To act as if this is a real question I'm going to give a real answer.

Since there's a long history of racists in the USA calling black people 'monkeys' and 'apes' it's a slur to call a black kid a 'monkey'.

A big problem is that people mean two completely different things by 'racist'  (or sexist or homophobic or anti-Semitic). The first is saying that an individual has a personal bias.  That isn't all that common now and most likely is not the case here.  The second is saying that we live in a society with a history that gives adventages to some people and disadvantages to others.  Sometimes it's subtle - as a Jew I have to use my vacation time to follow my own holidays but am not allowed to work on somebody else's holidays since I live in a Christian majority country.  Not one person has to be "Jew-hating" for that to happen.

The same with countries that don't allow same-sex marriage.  Nobody has to be overtly homophobic to have the effect that gives a disadvantage to homosexuals.
