@navyblue1632 Have you looked at the technical forums recently?
      https://community.gaytorrent.ru/category/49/non-gt-ru-technical-stuff

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it does rather feel like this question comes up very frequently in multiple threads when there are already ongoing discussions. You'll probably get better information by adding to those threads and reading what's there. 🙂

For starters, gay porn is considered to be obscene, and nothing obscene can be copyrighted, so forget about DMCA.

Already discussed. At great length. Many times. Shown to be delusional and factually incorrect. Why do you keep ranting about this?

    • RE: "collection" spam

@ianfontinell-0 Controversial opinion, because I know it could end up reducing the volume of content being added to the site, but I#d like to see people start losing their uploading rights (at least temporarily) for refusing to make any attempt to curate the collections/dumps/spam they add to the site.

It raises another question for me to. Is there any point in reporting them? Some of them clearly violate the rules on collections, but to expect the mods to download all of these large collections to check them when they're reported is a lot of work and data usage, and most of the time you won't know the outcome unless you specifically go back and check after a few days.

The subject raises another thought. I think we need more feedback from the mod team when we report something on the site. We already have this when we report a duplicate, and you get a nice little message to say thanks for reporting and giving you some points.

When we report rule violations though we generally get no feedback at all. |I'm not asking for the mods to write an essay, and all we really need is some checkbox response form like
      "Thanks for reporting xxxxxxxx.torrent.
      Your report has been upheld/denied.
Action taken: User banned/Upload rights taken for xx days/User warned/NFA" and perhaps a chance for the mod to add an explanatory note if they like.

Feedback helps everyone. It helps users to better understand where the mods interpret the threshold to be, as opposed to rigid adherence to the rules, because some leeway is to be expected. We learn what is and isn't worth reporting, and that in turn helps the mods by filtering reports down to those that actually warrant checking. Uploaders are already anonymous, so there shouldn't be any problem with targeted campaigns against people.

The more we know the more we can help.

@raphjd May I suggest that the information available on the main site be amended to reflect the current situation as I believe at could be the source of the confusion? Looking that the trade-in page for points it clearly states:

      For what I get points?

      • You receive for every hour the system is registering you as a seeder 0.5 points.
      • If you upload a new torrent, you might get rewarded by other users with seedbonus. Upload now to make extra credits!

@ikpooo Just a little tip for you:

If your client gives you an "unregistered torrent" error, as long as you've already connected to the swarm (and the seeder keeps it active) I think you can still download it. New people won't be able to join the swarm, but those already in it can stay connected to each other.

Also, since an IQ of 100 is by definition the average IQ I think you may need to reassess your moron assertion, particularly as that particular label hasn't been used in reference to the IQ scale in decades. When it was still used it referred to an IQ of between 51 and 70. Now I'm actually quite keen to know what IQ you think someone needs to have in order to be considered functional in modern society.

    • RE: Question about renaming files

Yep. My impression is that over the years files get moved around between so many different people on various sites that it's like a huge game of Chinese Whispers, and eventually you end up with files with names that bear nothing in common with their release titles.

Like I said, the idea is most definitely NOT to find a way around uploading duplicates. I'm becoming quite adept at recognising random uploads here that I've seen before and report them if I can verify that they're dupes. I just thing that if people can take a couple of minutes to research their uploads and name them properly before adding them to the site it would go some way to making things better for all users, even as the file propagates through other sites later on. Its so frustrating to see relatively new scenes uploaded with random titles when the real information is so easy to find.

    • RE: Like Monty Python's Knights of Neigh.. who don't say "IT".. don't say... S****S

@lololulu19 If any studio is particularly on-point regarding DMCA infractions, there is no reason to expect them to be any less proactive regarding their older productions than they are their newer scenes.

In the case of this studio, I have noticed a real trend of them releasing "new" films/DVDs that are simply compilations of some of their old scenes. Indeed, they seem to be one of the worst studios for do so. I have seen the same scenes crop up in multiple ostensibly new films. This, to me, seems like a huge "fuck you" to those people who still purchase films rather than simply subscribe to their site as they are charging premium prices for something the customer may already have paid for. It's not unlike those wretched trading card packs for kids that are sold in newsagents. The kids end up just getting the same cards over and over again with nothing new.

Nevertheless, the studios financial interest in those scenes still exists, and as such there is no reason to expect that they will simply turn a blind eye to sharing of scenes they may have shot a decade ago. Also, while I agree that recent work isn't as good as it used to be, I don't see why that should have any bearing on their approach to DMCA breaches.

"How common is getting cheated by streamers?"
      Very

"I don't want to nag him, but it is getting quite frustrating."
      Duh

"It hurts me when I try to help someone, who rejects my help."
You're not "helping" anyone. Charity is helping people. Paying for a service is business.

"It is often painful to watch streamers."
      Then don't.

Just in case you actually never heard the expression before, a fool and his money are soon parted. You've complained about this sort of thing numerous times in the past, yet you still partake. Either you're a fool, or you have the financial means that make it not really matter, or both. It's 2023, and the whole "I gave a stranger on the internet money and didn't get anything in return" shtick on the whole is getting a bit old. I don't understand how we can be at this point without everyone being a bit more aware and just owning their mistakes.

What I don't get is why completely straight stuff is here.
Because sometimes a gay man can enjoy watching a straight guy even if they have to crane their neck to see around the tits

      @lololulu19 said in GAYtor.rent ?:

EVEN THEN, I don't mind if the guy is extremely cute (which is quite rare).
So in effect you are saying that all straight content should be removed/banned except straight content that you personally enjoy. I don't think that's going to work unless you want everyone to send you their files before they upload them to the site.

I check this and other sites daily, and can safely say that even on a good day 98% of what gets uploaded is of no interest to me whatsoever, but I do recognise that obviously there are others that like it. Who do you think is uploading the straight content? I can't imagine anyone thinks to themselves "Yeah, I'm totally straight and have no interest in gay porn or men, but I think I'll join a gay torrent site and upload stuff that nobody there will want, because that'll be a productive use of my time."

I get what you're saying. I truly do, but at the same time this isn't a site just for you or me or any other single user. It's for everyone.

    • RE: Misleading Torrent

@jujulette Every time somebody uploads a file and changes its name to something cryptic it utterly fucks all of us. People end up downloading things again and again believing them to be new material when in reality it's usually just an altered title or filename. It hurts ratios, takes up valuable storage space, makes things impossible to catalogue and worst of all these files propagate across multiple trackers to the point where the "real" file gets lost in the sands of time.

I'm in the process of tidying up my library, and in the last 2 days alone I've recovered over 300Gb of space across multiple drives where I've been able to identify identical files with misleading names. Some of them I've had 5 or more copies of them, all downloaded from different sites over the years.

Yes, it's annoying when files get DMCA hits, but I'd rather see a few of those disappear than end up with terabytes of rubbish. As @tnar said, if nobody can find it then what's the point of it staying here?

    • RE: Are we sure "mike18" is indeed 18 years old?

@whiteDwarf-0 Personally I avoid those files like the plague. The very fact that they used to be on the banned lists of several torrent sites has embedded itself in my brain, and even if he himself is older now you have to ask yourself if their other performers are above board given past suspicions. I do find myself wondering the same thing about quite a few OF performers, but given that sites like OF and JFF have age verification policies in place I would hope that everything you see on those sites is compliant with the law.

It does make you wonder though about how culpable an individual might be if they were to be found with questionable files downloaded from one of those sites. Could you, for example say that as the site has policies in place to ensure that all performers are of legal age you should not be held accountable? Clearly it is impossible for viewers to check a performer's ID, so should there be something akin to the UK's "Challenge 25" policy? (For the foreigners here, the Challenge 25 policy is meant to prevent underage people from buying alcohol. It means staff should check IDs for anyone who looks like they might be under 25, saving a lot of problems at the till when 18 or 19 year olds used to get offended at being asked for ID.) Of course, such a move would completely eliminate all twink porn.

It's an interesting question, probably much debated in the past when Brent Corrigan's real age was discovered after shooting some scenes for Cobra. After all, how is a viewer meant to know if someone is 17 or 18? You would think that should the police decide to try to get a conviction the onus would be on them to prove the performer was underage. When you hear in the news about underage pornography I think we all associate it with children who could never be mistaken for an adult, but it becomes much harder to discern the legality of the issue when talking about performers at the 18+ threshold.

    • RE: Banned from uploading for 90 days.

@duncanlem AKAIK they don't, but when a DMCA notice is received the site operators are probably required to take some sort of action against the individual that uploaded the file. This can happen in the background without ever divulging the member's details to the copyright owner. Perhaps it's a deal struck with the industry that stop them from bringing all they have against the site as a whole, but speculation is just pointless.

Once again, I'd say that the reason things happen the way they do is probably because they have to happen that way. Asking questions here yields no meaningful answers, and I assume that is also because it has to be that way. I'd suggest that we all just accept it and not try to delve too deep into something that is presumably there to protect both the site and its members.

@makigott Not wanting to sound rude or unsympathetic, but shouting in all caps on the forum like this probably isn't the best way to resolve this.

Looking at your link, it looks like the upload has been temporarily removed from the site while it gets reviewed to make sure everyone in it is of legal age. This is something I personally 100% approve of as it protects not only the site itself but also all the members.

If you want to try and get a productive response may I suggest that you write politely to the helpdesk to ask what happens next?
