I think living in Indonesia opened Obama's mind about Islam. It's not scary to him. When he grew up there Indonesia was still tolerant. The current brand of Islam wasn't there. Let me be plain: I don't think Islam fits in the West and I'd prefer people from that part of the world not immigrate to the US. But it's not my country, so I'll make a compromise that if we're allowing Muslim people that they must be real moderates or secular. If you feel your woman should wear a hijab or that the mosque must be separated by sex, you can't immigrate. Obama was less picky. Much less picky.

How is it possible to have PEACE with a crazy religion such as Islam?   Yes, judaism and christianity are also crazy, but people don't take those religions literally anymore.   I haven't noticed anybody getting stoned to death for working on the Sabbath lately.  Islamic nations are still using their religion to do things like chop off hands, heads, whip people, throw people off roofs, torture, etc.   It is incredible that anybody who is supposed to be a feminist (Hillary) would give any credibility to a muslim country such as Saudi Arabia (which has sharia law) by accepting endorsements / money from them.

Heres' the "Sharia Law"  song being sung in London England.. which is now controlled by muslims, and has a muslim mayor.  Trump can't even visit London after getting an invitation from the Queen because London is so unstable right now.

It's possible if and when Muslim people put aside the major tenants of their religions (note the plural). To me, proof of a moderate Islam is not to wear the Muslim garb, especially raising girls to cover themselves. Also, not to segregate their mosques. Do that, and I think they could more comfortably integrate.

As I said, I would prefer zero Muslim immigration but that's not going to happen. Since Islam is a major religion with one billion people practicing it, we have to get along. That responsibility falls on the shoulders of the secular and truly moderate Muslime peoples of the world and for the rest  of us to push for secular governments.

Obama is muslim and hates Israel.  For the first 13 years of his life, he was raised in Indonesia (a muslim country) by a strict muslim nut named Soetoro.   The same-sex marriage thing is confusing.  Ultra liberal California was AGAINST it.. which I still don't understand.  Several states started allowing same-sex marriages, and Obama and Hillary were slow to support it.  Hillary was vocally against same-sex marriage for decades, but then with no explanation did a complete flip-flop.  Perhaps Obama supported same-sex marriage to give Muslim countries a reason to hate the USA.  Same situation with using drones to bomb weddings and funerals.

You can't know what's going on in Obama's head, so don't assume you know what he loves and hates.

Obama had a plan to bring peace to the Middle East which involved getting strict with Israel (not unlike how Trump is getting strict with NK) and Obama later backed down, I presume because he didn't have the political capital.

The gay thing in CA, it's not hard to understand. People are more conservative that you think. It's why Trump will win a second term.

If you look at Obama's record of liberalization, he was always in favor of same-sex marriage but had to wait until the time was right. Had he pushed it in his first term, it would have been harder to get a second term. Again, this is politics.

That video has been on Youtube everytime I've ever checked.  I just checked again…  there are SEVERAL versions of it on Youtube.  It's possible that your country is blocking it.  In just seconds, I found dozens of links to several versions of it, some with still images, some with digitized images, some with links to the full original video, documentaries which include clips of the video, some in what looks to me like kanji characters.  Youtube certainly has made no attempt to remove it.  I found links that were 6 and 7 years old.

Whenever some "white" group does something unacceptable, all members of that group are stigmatized.  If there was a group WLM, it would instantly be labeled as being a white supremacist racist group.

If they belong to BLM, then they are accountable for what all BLM members do. You do realize that's a way of thinking that leads to all Christians are X, all gays are Y, don't you?

To a point, I agree with you. I think these various groups should start new groups or a new group like All Lives Matter. In the meantime, it's best to keep an open mind and when someone says they support BLM ask what they mean. I'll guarantee most people don't understand the scope of what they're saying.

@ raphjd, if you argue with people in loud, shouting tones, then, yeah, people are going to say you're a racist, sexist, homophobe. If you're calm and collected you can avoid those traps.

I talk about these things all the time. If I don't know the person well, they walk on eggshells but when they realize I'm interested in conversation, they're almost always cool with it. Unexpectedly, it's always white men that have the hardest time with these conversations (with me). I think it's conditioning. I'm thinking about this white Canadian dude named John, gosh, he squirms when I bring these topics up but unless you're going to talk to me about TV shows and movies I care about, it's a hellofa lot better than idle chitchat.  ;D

There's no religion in China and Japan, so attitudes on getting off with a dude are totally different. There's also an attitude that college is a time to get everything out of your system before you integrate into the hierarchy. There's a lot of gay for pay stuff here, most often called NONKEI and it's real.

There are host clubs where straight men work. Some are non-sex, like Butler Cafes. They mostly tend to women but when a man comes in they are every bit as attentive.

Europe, my favorite city is Paris but it's unrecognizable from when I first went way back in the 90's. I'd either live in Lisbon, Portugal or someplace in The Czech Republic (though because of some people I've met here, Poland has piqued my interest).

They've been getting into it more and more over here in Japan. It's not nationwide, though in rural places English schools and day care centers often hold a costume event. (The standard costume is to dress your kid up as a pumpkin – 1000's of pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!)

In Tokyo, Shibuya turns into, more or less, a block party. Since you're allowed to drink outside here, lots of partiers in pretty good costumes taking selfies for Instagram.

Over the weekend, other large cities will hold Halloween Parades. This is where the cosplayers come to show off their costumes for  Halloween. Kawasaki has a pretty big one.

Wherever you are in Japan, Halloween is whatever weekend falls before the 31st.
