    • RE: NOW China decides to cut off loans to North Korea

Hyperbole aside do you know anything about Asia?

I live in Japan and what you said makes as much sense as having Canada take over the US and Mexico because they've been fucking up too much and can't play nicely together.

Personally, I think it would be better to let the North Koreans starve but since the Cold War ended, along with Soviet help, North Korea has been rattling its saber and getting food aide. Trump's the first person to say no which puts both Koreas in a bind. If the South hadn't impeached their previous president there's a strong likelihood she'd have gone along with Trump but the people elected someone who was very public about bringing the two Koreas together. The North is in an awkward position because they know they can't win but they can't back down. And so the people in South Korea want to feed their neighbors and families in the North. That might end up being the band-aid for the moment.

China isn't being shady. Chinese culture and political philosophy are 180 degrees different from the West. They seek cooperation, especially as a country full of potential refugees sits on their doorstep.

And Japan wants no part of Korea. The problems between N/S Korea and Japan started when Japan invaded the peninsula in the late 1800's, killed the royal family and declared it (and eventually Manchuria) a territory of Japan. All of North Korea's hostility towards Japan, with their rockets overhead flybys, can be traced back to those imperial times.

    • Autumn is almost here: what are your favorite things to eat/make in the fall?

Tomorrow is the solstice. I live in Japan where there is a very clear delineation between the season. Though they've been selling autumn goods (special beers, snacks, 'n' stuff) officially the summer stuff is put away tomorrow.

Myself, I'm all about mushrooms. I'll be making all kinds of soups and sides with them.

I also love squash, especially butternut and kabocha. A simple coconut curry with nice chunks is always good, or just microwave/bake it and eat as is as a snack.

Aside from that, I tend to eat/prepare heartier foods from the fall. I placed an order for tripe, heart, and sweetbreads this afternoon – I love to cook and I adore offal. Over here they eat it skewered and grilled but I like mine prepared the old French and Italian ways.

    • RE: American Horror Story. Which one is better?

There is no "better" season. Each season is its own theme and genre, so we'd really be comparing apples to oranges.

Myself, I loved Hotel. The characterizations and all the complex relationships sold the story.

Freakshow, I love the fx Sara Paulson and how they made normal people the real freaks without being overly preachy.

Rowanoak is the only season to ever frighten me. How they put it together was brilliant.

Still, I love the comedy in Coven but I can not forgive what they did to Misty Day.

And on and on I could go, no one favorite.

    • American Horror Story: Cult. Episodes one - three discussion

Well, this is a TV thread. With a lesbian couple in Cult I expected there to be a little discussion on it here. No? Let's start!

Episode three had me on the floor laughing. The terrible part is that all the talk of lesbian racists and white privilege are exactly what I'm finding on my Facebook feed. So far the tone has been pitch perfect but, like every season, I'm still confused as to where this is going.

For one, I'm not sure that Episode three is real. I mean, I think after what happened at the end of two that Ally was taken into psychiatric care and what we're seeing is her brainwashing.

Anyway, I'd love to talk here with people about the show. If the discussion takes off, I can post a new thread each week for new episodes.

    • Gotham: Anyone watching? Season 4 starts tonight and I'd love to talk about it

I love all the comic book TV shows. I often theory craft with friends over on reddit but it'd be awesome to make some friends here to talk to about it, like, how incredibly sexy The Riddler is (nerdy, thin and pale does it for me but Alfred could eat crackers in my bed).

Or how about how amazing The Penguin is?

      Wanna be besties with Selina?

Thoughts on where the season is going?

If this takes off it'd be fun to check in each week and talk all things Gotham.
