Creating a torrent doesn't depend on you operating system but your torrent client. Does your prog not have an option 'Create (New) Torrent' on its menus?

Not much more difficult except you have to remember to download and start seeding your own torrent you uploaded.

PS It makes no difference what you put in the tracker announce box - the site software adds the proper one when you post

That's very true but you can still seed those parts you did download. Once you have reached what you consider a reasonable upload ratio for the parts, you can just delete it from your list

For years I have used uTorrent, presently on version 3.0 (there were some problems with later versions) and have had no problems.

If you can pick up older copies of uTorrent v2.x you should have no problems

I'm sorry I can't answer your main question but for the final line, you could go back to an earlier version of uTorrent

I use v3.0 and I stopped there when I saw people having problems with upgrades. I have had no problems with that.

Earlier v2.x have been pretty steady
