    • RE: Introducing Minimum Requirements for Titles, Pictures and Descriptions?

I honestly didn't realise how much of a problem this is for the staff.

Perhaps we could encourage all us 'ordinary' members to help out a bit more. If the posted torrent doesn't have any thumbnails and you have a copy of the movie on your hard disk, it takes a couple of minutes and a few clicks to make a sheet in Media Player Classic (for instance) and upload it.

If there isn't a studio or cast list mentioned and you know one or both, add it in a comment. If you have a description or review handy, add that at the bottom as a comment. It will save the staff having to go searching for information and leave them time for other important stuff  :masbana:

So come on, guys, don't leave it all to the staff, join in and maybe earn some points too  :hug2:

    • RE: Collection question

      @Uwe:

You need to have selected in µTorrent > Options > Preferences > UI Settings > When Adding Torrents "Show options to change the name and location of the torrent data".

In my version of uTorrent 3.0 the box to check reads "Show a window that displays the files inside a torrent in advanced mode"

This will show a dialog as attached below. Choose 'Select none' and that clears the check boxes. Then you just click the boxes of those you want to download

    • RE: Collection question

If you download and open the torrent file, your torrent client should ask where you want to save the files. At that point you should be able to check those files on the list you want and uncheck those you don't

Could you give a little more detail about the sort of problem you are seeing.

If there really is a problem, could not the posts be renamed?

My two cents worth is to have as few 'requirements' as possible.

    • RE: Seeking assistance with uploading files

GymJock, there is no converting needed, You can click on the 'Upload' button (fourth from left at top) and follow the instructions there.

You can create a torrent using your usual torrent program and post that along with any thumbnails/pictures via the Upload link.

It's really quite simple (after the first one).

Basically, get everything ready to share, upload, (and this is the bit that confuses first timers), download your own just-posted torrent, open it as you would any other, point your torrent prog to the file you made the torrent from, save it (don't worry it won't overwrite), it will check and start seeding.

There are plenty of people around to help you if you get stuck 🙂

      Good luck

    • RE: Searching for Torrent Comments

Just to add my two cents worth. I'm not staff or auto-approval but the number beside 'Torrent Comments' in my Profile is clickable.

Maybe it's OK for power users…?

      @wolfxin:

look at the file i been uploading. just look at the ratio.

Heavens, does it really matter? You are not in danger of being caught by the ratio police. Why not just get on and enjoy what people are sharing without getting worked up about whether your upload is showing or not?

      ???

    • RE: Where & How do we invite friends to create new accounts here? (can't find it)

It's also worth checking if it is open signup so you can tell your fiends (your trusted friends, of course)

Before you log in, if you click on the signup button and get the Flags of the World display, your friends can sign up without an invitation.

    • RE: Rationator not working as it should

h00ter, i was beginning to go a little gaga myself with all the figures.

Perhaps I can try and explain with some simple examples. First, to maintain your ratio you have to upload at least your ratio times your download. This is because your ratio is your upload divided by your download.

Let's say you had uploaded 4 GB and downloaded just 1 GB

So your ratio is 4. If you then upload and download another 1GB on each side your ratio becomes 5/2 or 2.5. To maintain your ratio of 4 you would need to upload 4GB for each 1GB downloaded thus 8/2 or 4 again.

Every time you upload less than the ratio x your download, your ratio will go down. (I have to upload 36 times my download to maintain my ratio right now  😮 )

With your upload total you need to upload many GBs of data (even if you download nothing) to make any small increase in your ratio , not your totals.

The best way to check that your uploads are being counted is to check the actual amounts of data being credited to you.

And I don't think you need to worry that you will be put on a watch list any time soon 😉

    • RE: Rationator not working as it should

What Uwe is saying that with your figures it takes a lot of uploaded data to change your ratio by a small amount. The higher your previous figures the smaller the change in ratio

If you want to check you are getting the right credit for your uploading check the change in the actual amounts in GB (or TB) of uploaded data, rather than the ratio figure.

    • RE: Seeding

      But very, very simply:

Seeding means either you have uploaded your own torrent and are sharing it with other people or:

You have completed a download of someone else's torrent and you have left your torrent client open to help others by sharing.

Leeching means that you are downloading someone else's torrent and haven't completed it yet. Once you have got the complete file, you become a seeder if you let other people have a share of your completed download.

    • RE: Duplicated Torrents

Not me - I'm all for getting rid of the dupes.

That's fine…in fact I pointed out a duplicate post on another site earlier today. It was a genuine mistake by the new seeder who couldn't find the original on the site. No problem, no-one hurt.

It pisses off the person who uploaded the torrent in the first place - he might not bother again.

But in an ideal world new seeders would thank the OP wherever they got it from. I would be surprised if someone downloaded from one site and merely reposted it to the same site (genuine mistakes excepted)

It pisses off people who have downloaded a torrent, are seeding it,

Ah, the old ratio problem.. That is perhaps for another thread.

I have no problem with deleting genuine duplicates but let's not have a war about it. We can all be nice in pointing out someone's mistake (which most duplicates are)

      🙂
