    • best desktop sw for photo "grouping" based on face?

I have a collection of about 20,000 pics of strangers, most of them with faces.

I'd like some desktop (Windoze, for me) software that will do the following:

      1. run locally / no Internet uploads or downloads, until and unless I have my own reason to ask for it

      2. based on a selected pic, pull up all other pics in the collection having the same face

      3. scan entire collection for possible groupings-by-face, and show me the groupings in some sort order (say, descending by number of pics per group)

      4. (ideal / just gravy) search the Internet for a name to the face, or at least click out to standard Google image search

I tried ImageRanger, which tries to do requirements 0 and 1. Unfortunately, ImageRanger's face matching is not accurate. It gives too many false negatives (obvious matches that it fails to see) as well as false positives (non-matches that it will put forward), even after you spend hours training it with your known faces.

I googled for facial recognition software, and found nothing for the isolated desktop user. At this point, face recognition is mostly done in hosted APIs / services.

Except that I am surely not the first person to have this problem? Does anyone know a solution?

    • RE: duplicate vanished - should I have gotten points?

@ricky Thanks. But if someone beat me to the report, they would have had to 1) ignored it for many years, then 2) seen my comments & made the report within 10 minutes of my posting the comments.

Because I did it all within a 10 minute span.

Who would even see my comments? (Until they search the torrent or work with it, some time much later)

    • RE: Anyone with a real methode for losing weight ?

I like the suggestions here. But someone should say the following...

There are exactly two real methods for losing weight:

      1. surgery
      2. Eat fewer calories than the calories you burn.

Most people (including me) won't do number 1. So that leaves number 2, which is simple arithmetic.

Number 2 "sounds obvious" and yet it reminds us of how simple the process is. Either eat less, or burn more. It's that simple.

The hard part is that you will feel hungry a lot, while doing it. The continuous hunger can lead to anger and to "binge eating" and other loss of compliance.

The different suggestions help you to stick to your plan, choose which foods to cut or what exercise to increase, etc. But always remember the simple arithmetic. Good luck!

    • duplicate vanished - should I have gotten points?

      Starting April 2, this happened.

      • I noticed that torrents A and B have the same 4 .avi content files
      • A is earlier, B is later
      • but A is not good to keep, because 1) it's dead and 2) it comes with 4 .png files that nobody would retain, which makes A harder to "re-seed by hand"
      • I posted comments to both A and B, pointing to each other and explaining why B should be kept
      • but then I officially reported B (since it is later) as a duplicate of A
      • A now has vanished
      • I did not get the bonus points for duplicate reporting

My question is, should I have gotten points?
And if yes, whom do I ask about it?

It's possible that someone deleted A by coincidence, unrelated to me.

But it feels like someone processed my report of B as a duplicate; kept B / deleted A (wisely and as I had hinted); and then gave me no points for the report.

It's not possible for an ordinary user to see A any more, but B (with my comment at the bottom, pointing to A) is here: https://www.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=c901e7c8154d461ca7ae31ba473d4d65d61c4dc01b377327

    • RE: how to seed without download?

      @ricky Thanks, I got it.

      • check that file names, sizes & paths/folders are identical to the thing I already had
      • switch to uTorrent Classic
      • remove old torrent
      • download/add GT torrent with "start" turned off
      • Force Recheck
      • Start

    • RE: how to seed without download?

I think I see how to do it in "uTorrent classic"... but it involves downloading JohnDoe's torrent and I will not be able to try that until tomorrow.

P.S. I am using "uTorrent Web". I've gathered that I may be better off on "uTorrent Classic", am trying to install it now

    • how to seed without download?

      Consider this scenario.

      1. On piratebay, I get a torrent for Mary's Recipes. (made-up name)

      2. It finishes. 4 files of a certain name, type/format, sizes and content.

      3. On gaytorrent, I see that JohnDoe has a torrent for that exact package of Mary's Recipes. (Same 4 files by same name, type/format, size, and probably-identical content.)

I want a way to become a seeder of JohnDoe's torrent, without having to first download his content. I want a way to link JohnDoe's torrent to my existing files, have something do a quick hash or something to verify identical content, and (if verified) proceed directly to seeding, with NOTHING added to my download stats.

      How is that done?
