Hmm… I have been rather poor in describing my taste. It's true for shaving any hair in general. The reason for this myth is that most guys start shaving facial hair around the first time they get them, and since they tend to grow thicker over the first few years, people assume it's because of the shaving. And as others have pointed out, extremely short blades of hair are rooted closer to the end of the hair and stay more stationery, which is why a stubble feels very sharp compared to long flowing beards. You won't see the difference in thickness once they are back to their usual length.

I used to groom my armpits by shaving and later using a trimmer, and stopped after a few years. They are the same now as they ever were.
