      1/  Is there no good gay romance written by (straight) women?
      Brokeback Mountain, The Front Runner, the Nightrunner series, and The Catchtrap come to mind as good gay romance stories written by women.

      The Front Runner was not written by a straight woman.

    • RE: Single user dominating bandwidth

      @TopJock:

      But this is an issue.

      If a few well connected seed boxes are providing the majority of bandwidth then the majority of users will not be able to maintain ratios.

      I have to download a bunch of free leach that I don't even want to even try and keep my ratio up.

      Even with over 200 torrents seeding (in the past) my upload was pathetic.

      It would be cool if the entire site was made free leach for a few days, or everyone was given some extra gigs or points or the ratio requirements where lowered.

      This is my main concern.  Just trying to be fair to everyone.  So what I do is throttle the upload speed for the torrent until there are several leechers connected and then I open up the speed.  It's not a perfect solution but hopefully it helps spread the seeding ability to other users.  The other thing I noticed is that they (I've noticed 3 or 4 different IPs) jump on the torrent before it is even visible.  I have a feeling they are using a bot to make sure they are first.

    • Torrent only seeding to 99.8%

      I uploaded a torrent yesterday.  When I performed the initial recheck to start seeding it showed 100% fine.  But now it is only 99.8%.  I assume some of the data was corrupted/changed somehow.  What is the best way to fix this?  I know that I will have to reupload the torrent file.  Is there anyway to migrate the current leachers to the new torrent or will they have to do it manually?  Is there anyway to notify them?

    • RE: Gay books by gay authors

      For gay mystery/detective/p.i. books you might consider Mark Richard Zubro, Joseph Hansen, Robert Innes, Gyles Brandreth, Frank W. Butterfield, Greg Herren, Richard Stevenson, R.D. Zimmerman, Dorien Grey, Josh Lanyon, Anthony Bidulka, Neil S. Plakcy, Lev Raphael, James Buchanan, Victor J. Banis, Orland Outland, Mark McNease, and Michael Nava.  Duncan Andrews combines mystery and sci-fi in his books.  Christopher Rice is a good author in the sci-fi/paranormal genre.  One female writer that I felt was good in the gay detective genre is Charlie Cochrane.

    • Single user dominating bandwidth

      I have uploaded several torrents today and have a user that is dominating my upload bandwidth.  They are using a seedbox.  Is there anyway to regulate a single users bandwidth in BitTorrent?  In the hundreds of torrents I have uploaded I have never had this issue before.  It keeps other leechers from connecting to me.  I also have the user's IP address if that helps.

      @Uwe:

      Please give your opinions, especially uploader views are welcome.

      As a former uploader, I think that it is crap.  Those of us who worked hard to earn and keep our auto-approval status were just thrown under the bus.  My opinion is that this was done primarily to build traffic back to the site after being closed for so long and because not enough moderators returned to help out.

      The one thing that made this tracker stand out from the rest, was the strict approval process.  It kept all of the junk out that clutters up other sites.  I mean why not make it a public tracker; no need to keep it private and exclusive because its not anymore.

      @Uwe:

      That highlights as well that Freeleech points are more efficiently spend when used on well seed torrents, which download can be finished in short time.

      So the most popular torrents become even more popular and the rest are left to languish?

    • RE: Bad Uploaders?!

      @leatherbear:

      With the changeover in the old Torrent Approval System to the new Auto Approval for all but brand new members this uploader has fallen thru the cracks and created a huge mess for our membership that are leechers on his uploads.

      I think there are many more who have "fallen through the cracks."  I was wondering why several uploaders were seeding several new uploads simultaneously rather than following the rules the rest of us had to in order to qualify for Auto Approval.  I guess that designation has no meaning now.

      The main reason I enjoyed this site and used it so much was because the content was controlled/moderated well.  Now it has fallen to the same low standards as the other torrent sites.

    • RE: New "refreshed" torrent policy?

      @Uwe:

      I
      If our last activity indicator shows 7 days or more of last activity, an original is deleted, else we try to revive it by promoting and re-seed request combination and wait a day if there is a response.

      This is my point.  I know for a fact that it was active on 2/19/2012 which was only 3 days before the torrent was deleted.  I know this because I uploaded a new torrent that day and stopped all of my old ones.  After I seeded the new one, I then restarted all of my old torrents to keep them active.  This specific torrent had at least one other seeder at that time, so I stopped my seed, so that the other seeder(s) would receive the upload credit if anyone wanted the torrent.

      Honestly, my biggest gripe is that the new uploader was aware of the other torrent, since he COPIED my description.  I know this for a fact because I include information that most people do not and it also matches the format I use.

      I guess from now on, I will just keep all of my old torrents seeding, even if others are seeding them as well, so that a moderator doesn't come along and delete them.  Also, are you aware that re-seed requests are never sent to the original uploader?

      Oh, and thanks, Uwe, for doing the research before you post.  Other moderators would do well to follow your example.

    • RE: New "refreshed" torrent policy?

      It was my understanding that torrents have to be dead for 7 days before deletion.  It was active as recent as 4 days ago.  Also, it wasn't deleted when that user uploaded the new torrent because he copied the description from my torrent.  He had a moderator delete my torrent so that he could upload his instead of having the torrent refreshed.  Check the log.

      And if it was not supposed to be a refreshed torrent, then why does it say "** added: 2010-04-03 **" in the description?  In fact, if my original torrent had been deleted before this one was uploaded, how would they even know the date of the original torrent?

      This torrent: http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=131323 was originally uploaded by myself on April 3, 2010.  Someone has copied my description and re-uploaded it and deleted the original torrent that was not DEAD on 2/19/2012.  Can someone explain this NEW "refreshed" torrent policy?

      @andy32:

      I wish there was an option on the upload page to disable adding new pictures.
      Maybe radio buttons 'Enable adding further pictures' with the default-setting 'Yes' …

      The problem would be some uploaders would only upload one pic, probably a publicity still (which is the most useless for this site), and then more relevant pics could not be attached to the torrent page.

    • RE: Why do you think are there so few BluRay movies out?

      @778939:

      Lately television has made great progresses and I for myself wouldn't have believed in 3D television. But now that at least it's here with glasses, I can't wait to see it out without such.

      These new technical possibilities make me greatly anticipate where porn's going to in the future, regarding 3D - yet there are as good as no BluRay ones out yet even if it has been on the market now for several years.

      This makes me wonder: Why are there as good as no such movies on BluRay out yet though it has been said that the porn industry would be the drive in the propagation of new media formats?

      I'm not sure where you get the idea there is no gay porn on Blu-Ray as TLA lists 68 titles available on Blu-Ray.  However, most of them are Titan which is of course banned.  Jet Set, Falcon, and Raging Stallion have also released a few titles.  As far as 3D, Dominic Ford and BelAmi have issued movies in 3D.

      Another thing to take into consideration.  I think that most people do not use their primary TV (which is the one most likely to be HD) to watch porn.  They use a secondary TV or computer which means the screens are smaller so less need for the higher definition.

    • RE: Well Prepared Torrent Upload Rewarding

      @Uwe:

      • Contact sheet with >= 20 thumbnails and each about 200 width or 3 pictures from the movie, clip or picture collection, size at least SD size (576 pixel width, height at least 40% of width) or the resolution of the movie

      Please explain to all mods that screenshots of the movie at the movie's resolution is acceptable.  I received this PM from a  :cens::

      The set of pictures you have been uploading to certain torrents are way too small. Only upload high quality resolution pictures, at least bigger than the ones you've tried in the past. Failing to do so will get them disapproved, hence, no seed bonus points.

      The only reason he saw them to begin with is that the pics were deleted during the upload process, so I had to add them afterwards; hence the seed bonus remark (which I could care less about).  I include screenshots for two reasons:  to show the actual content of the movie and to visually demonstrate the resolution of the movie.  As I upload lots of vintage/older stuff, sometimes the best resolution is 320x240 which produces very small screenshots.

      Please avoid insulting names for a staff member!!!

      @xenu:

      then the "volume 2" was deleted because 2 of the 7 clips were on other posted torrents that were 3 years old and had only 2 seeders each.

      What's inconsistent is that nearly every e-book compilation torrent on the site has some duplicates and yet they still get approved or not deleted.

    • RE: My upload wasn't gay enough

      @MrMazda:

      @ballard1:

      So what's with all the music uploads which clearly have nothing to do with GAY at all?

      Unlike video where you have a "visual" element, it is not possible to portray a "gay" theme in music, short of making gay reference in the lyric (if any). For this reason, it is not possible to classify music uploads, therefore there is no such restriction on uploads of music only. Music videos on the other hand are a whole other ball of wax and are a no no.

      While this is true, there are plenty of gay artists/musicians/composers out there but very little to none of their music is on the tracker.  For instance, I just browsed the first 200 music torrents and there was plenty of Lady Gaga of course, but I only saw one George Michael/Queen, one Eric Himan, one Culture Club, the Latter Days soundtrack, one NYC Gay Men's Chorus, and one Pet Shop Boys.  There may have been others that I am not aware of.  The issue I have is that most of the mainstream music is readily available for free elsewhere; I would like to see GT.ru focus on gay artists/musicians as their music usually can't be found on other trackers.  None of Ari Gold's nor Mark Weigel's music is on the tracker.  Hell, even Elton John only has one torrent here (yes, I know, you can find his music elsewhere).

    • RE: Incentive for uploaders?

      @pigtucket:

      As for twinkletoes' suggestion of not using "initial seeding", I've never considered doing that.  I guess my main goal is more oriented toward getting the most people a copy of the video in the quickest way possible.  Then again, that may stem from my impatient side feeling what it's like to be waiting for a 100% copy.

      pigtucket

      Well, the problem I've noticed with initial seeding in BitTorrent (I assume the same with uTorrent) is that your overall upload speed wildly fluctuates.  I usually have a steady 180-200 kbps but using initial seeding it will drop to 30-50 kbps for a few seconds then go back up; then in a few seconds will drop again.  What this does is lower your overall volume during the same amount of time.  It's been a long time since I used Azureus but I don't remember having that issue while superseeding with that client.

      Ballard1:  another thing to do, is go through your list of uploaded torrents periodically to see if any of them have a leecher with no seeder.  One of the reasons that I do this is that, as far as I can tell, reseed requests NEVER go to the original uploader just to those on the snatch list.  One more thing to do is check if any of your uploads are dead.  These don't show up under the default browse/search.  Seeding these dead torrents will enable them to be visible.  I have torrents from nearly two years ago that are downloaded ever so often.  If someone wants one of these torrents and you are the only seeder, then you will receive full credit.  Of course, if they think that it is taking too long and press the reseed button, you might be overwhelmed with faster seeders.

      @twinkletoes:

      @Uwe:

      The before mentioned "Uploader" user class is an attempt to at least give a moral recognition to the new torrent contributors,
      but it is unfortunately not advancing 😞

      FWIW, ballard1, I agree with everything you have said, but it has been my experience that proposed changes to this site,
      if not rejected completely, proceed at a leaden pace
      (and Uwe has just confirmed this)

      Several other commentators have asked you if you are using the special "initial seeding" protocol, but I believe that you haven't answered this question.
      It is crucial for you to avoid the "initial seeding" protocol since that ensures that you minimize your upload volume

      Actually, there IS something you can do when you observe someone in the swarm behaving like "Mike2009"
      Many (most?) bittorrent clients will allow you (without any GTRU Administrator's intervention) to "ban" a peer.
      This would force your upload to pass through only the peers with a slow connection.

      But banning a peer from your client doesn't ban them from the swarm, unfortunately.  He would still be able to download pieces from other users and then redistribute them.  Also to reiterate, make sure that you have "initial seeding/superseeding" turned OFF.

      P.S. The latest version of BitTorrent (7.2.1) doesn't seem to allow banning of peers or I can't seem to figure out how to do it, but I was able to do it in earlier versions.

      @ballard1:

      I just wish I could get a 10MB line… and if it were available afford it

      I am supposed to have 18 MB/s service with Power Boost but the max I can upload is around 250 kb/s.  I limit it to 200 kbps to keep everything running smoothly.  That user had an upload speed of 1MB/s so his connection is surely more than 10MB/s.  Unless he is the sole user on a dedicated line.

    • RE: How To: Search For a Duplicate Torrent Before Uploading a New Torrent

      There is a big problem with the search function in regards to letters with diacritics.  Search functions on most web sites will match the underlying letters but not GT.ru.  I found this out when I was going to upload several Cadinot movies that I had downloaded elsewhere because my first search on this site didn't show them.  Fortunately, I had a lightbulb go off before I uploaded and I searched using partial words like "priv" instead of "prives" for "privés".  For those of us using standard English keyboards, it is not easy to type words with diacritics, in fact, most native English speakers probably don't even know how (Canadians, being bilingual, excepted).  I don't know how difficult or time-consuming it would be to change the search coding, but I wanted to bring this problem to everyone's attention.

      This is the only major problem I have found searching for duplicates, except when there are typos; but not much you can do about those.
