      @leatherbear:

      :rotfl: Excellent list indeed :jaj:

      BTW: I did edit this list some what

      Thanks. 🙂  I am very happy with the discussion it has started.

      My initial thought about the new guides/FAQs is to go with a wiki. The few active members don't have to do everything. Everyone can have as little or as much input as they like. The main problem with this is how much more work will it be required of the site coder to integrate the wiki into the current site.

      The more workable that require less effort for the coder is something like this.

      Rules page (and new member welcome page) will feature a welcome message with the 10 Commandments and a short 3-5 line of friendly explanation about why the rules exist, to help the website run smoothly and build a community etc… Final line should say: for more details and explanation of the rules, please check out our Guides and FAQs section.

      GUIDES.  Move the guides out of the forum and give each guide its own page, all linked together by a master table of content on the guide main page.  At the bottom of each guide is a link to a forum post in the forum where people can post question and answers.

      FAQs.  The current FAQs seem to be very comprehensive and adequate.  Just need some layout cleanup. Either have one page per section (Site Information, User Information etc..) or use scripts to only display one section/question at a time.

      FORUMS. Clean up the forum by having less sticky topics. Many of the current stickies in the GT.ru Discussion and Guides forum fit more into the guide section.  Only current and most important topic should be sticky. For example New Ratio requirements is now old news, where as First Time uploader program is alway relevant for new member.

      That's all for now. 🙂

    • RE: Seeder with large seeding list.

      @Uwe:

      Of course 1000 is exessive, the torrent client will spend too much in communicating with the tracker and peers.

      Exactly the point I'm trying to make. 🙂

      Soon after my initial post, another seeder came online and the torrent was flying at 100 kB/s+.  This person has <600 seeding torrents and a big upload pipe (160 kB/s+ average upload speed).

      Back on topic.  I've just gone through the site Rules and FAQs and I think they need some cleaning up for easier reading.  Perhaps a simpler set of rules that's presented to new member at the first login would help fix this and other problems.  The GT.ru 10 Commandments I made up below cover most of the important points of the Rules section. Each rules can be link to another page with full explanation and examples.  The main things to avoid are center format everything and walls of text.  Numbers and letters are easier to refer to than dot points.

      GayTorrents.ru 10 Commandments

      1. Thou shou not use multiple GT.ru account on the same internet account.
      2. Thou shou not upload GT.ru torrents to other trackers.
      3. Thou shou not upload duplicate files or banned materials.
      4. Thou shou not seed more than 20 torrents at a time.
      5. Thou shou not post clickable link to external website.

      6. Thou shou meet or exceed minimum ratio requirement.
      7. Thou shou provide appropriate title, descriptions and preview images when uploading a new torrent.
      8. Thou shou treat other members with respect.
      9. Thou shou check into GT.ru forum regularly and participate in the community.
      10. Thou shou search and read FAQs before posting new enquiry.

      @MontanaJones:

      Do I just have bad taste or is there that many more seeders than leechers?

      The general rule is that the torrents with the most exposure get the most downloads. At the top of the list is the new torrents on the first few pages, then the server top 30 list on the front page, then the 3 recommended torrents at the top of every page.  The really popular torrents will also have many seeders so the leechers won't necessarily download from you. If your goal is to seed and keep your ratio up then get in early on new torrents or upload some yourself.

    • Seeder with large seeding list.

      I am currently the only leecher in a torrent with 1 seeder. I'm getting 1-3 kB/s, even though both the seeder and I  are capable of much higher speed.  When I check, the seeder is currently seeding 1070 torrents. My guess is that the slow speed I'm getting has something to do with the total amount of seeding torrents maxing out the seeder upload bandwidth. This isn't the first time I came across this situation. I thought about PM the seeder to suggest only seed torrents with less than 5 seeder if his intention is to keep the torrents alive, but I am afraid of coming across as condescending/rude.

      Don't get me wrong. I am grateful that the seeder is still seeding this torrent, else it would be dead. But seeding it this way is useless if people can't download at all.  My intention of starting this thread is to see if crowd wisdom can come up with solutions to educate people to stop seeding this way as it's of no benefit to the seeder or the downloader.

      My suggestions:

      1. Post this/similar advise up in the news section.
      2. Limit everyone seeding to a number comparable to their average upload speed. ie: if your average upload speed is 50kB/s your max upload slot/seed is 20 torrents. Seed anymore than that simultaneously and only the first 20 torrent will be recognised.

    • RE: Gay Themed Vs. Gay Interest

      I would vote NO for "Gay Interest". It cover such a wide area. It would also be more work and more difficult for people doing approval to know where to draw the line.

      Currently, the only people interested in taking down GT is porn studio (though some prefer it to stay alive for the free advertising/promotion of their products). Gay Interest cover a very wide area. It would makes GT a bigger target for TV network, film studio, music company.

      Finally, I feel the current system works very well. We already have some gay interest materials at a good ratio to the truely gay stuffs. 🙂

    • RE: Regular Entertainment - Question, Gauging interest

      Since, it's not related to GT theme the number of download would likely be low and the torrent won't stay alive very long. If you really want to share it, why not upload it to say Pirate Bay and Rapidshare and post the link in the forum?

    • Tsjfmj.net - a great site for reviews, covers and screenshots

      Just want to share this wonderful site I found of gay movie/dvd reviews.  It covers porn and theme movies, further separate into sub categories of popular studios and genres.  A typical review entry contain high resolution front and back cover with full details of the movie title, series name (+ number), director, casts, feature overview and (occasionally) more screenshots and listing of dvd special features.

      I can't find any details about the site author.  There's no advertising to speak of, just a simple clean basic design.  If somehow the site author is reading this, Thank You for making and sharing it.

      I hope this site will help people looking for covers and maybe give them some ideas on what else is out there.

      Don't worry, you might happen to be "the guy" who writes lengthly post on this forum.  As long as you are writing positive contribution to the community, keep it coming. People who don't like reading long post can skip over them. 🙂

    • RE: Low Ratio - lets help ourselves !

      May I point out that in the long run your suggest would not solve the problem of all the people with bad ratio, unless they kept paying everytime they get a warning. 🙂

      Giving admin money to fix your problem would only encourage accusation that the admins are greedy.

    • RE: Power Seeding and its repercussions

      Interesting topic.

      Perhaps the solution would be for the system to auto notify these power seeder a "reminder" to stop seeding when they have reach the ratio of 4+ while there are other 5 more people also seeding.

    • RE: New ratio policy is unfair!

      People seem to forget where the bandwith they download from originate from other members.  The site ratio requirement is really just a minimum requirement.  Ideally, we should be require to upload as much as we download.  It's unrealistic to expect a small number of member to provide bandwidth for everyone else.

    • RE: New Upload require verification by Mod

      @yngmstr:

      We could always go back to the old way, give out warnings, instead, not verify content, and be shut down.

      If you can't read half a page of rules for new torrents, there is a serious problem here.

      The reason the amount of new torrents is less, is because we are nipping it in the bud. Users that constantly seed tons of new torrents at a time, at 5kb total, are no longer able to. The list might be shorter but it is a lot cleaner.

      🙂 It's good to see this topic back from the dead.

      My $0.25.

      We need a system that works better. Perhaps one that works on reputation credit.

      People who have previously made good upload (none that broke any rules) should be allow to make upload without verification. They should be assume innocent until proven otherwise (as oppose to the current rule of assuming everyone is guilty/wont follow the rules).

      Another idea is to have mini-mod status for "Super Contributor". These can be the people who have made more than 10 good uploads, or have 50GB+ of upload and have been with the server over 3 months (again, pick an appropriate number). Send these people an invitation to join the group. Give them access to pre-approve torrent and the power to approve torrent of first time uploader.

      It's make sense to me that those who intend to contribute to the community are most likely to know and follow the rules. Give the power to the people. Let them help the community grow.

    • New Upload require verification by Mod

      I have just uploaded a new torrent and receive the System generated message telling me that my torrent need to be verify by a Moderator before it will appear on the front page. It's now almost an hour later and it still has not show up on the front page. There's currently 153 people online. Normally I would have 5-10 people downloading the new torrent.

      I understand that this new measure is to help keep in check the number of duplicate torrents. However, Moderators have a life and can't be on at all time. Meanwhile the uploader sit and wait hoping something will happen soon. Perhaps a better way would be letting ordinary Users help manage checking duplicate torrents.

      If you can implement a system like Digg so when someone find/suspect that a torrent is duplicate/not allow then they can hit the Report link. When a torrent get reported 3 or more time within the first 12 hours (or pick a different number), the system will automatically remove it from front page but so no one else can start a new download it while the people who currently downloading can continue to do so.

    • RE: Creating Screen Captures

      Another easy way is to use the lastest version of Media Player Classic (MPC). Mine came with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and it allow you to play almost any video format on the web. You can get it from the address below.

      hxxp://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/KLite_Mega_Codec_Pack/1080441198/1

      HOW TO USE

      Just open your video in MPC and go to File > Save Thumbnails.. and specify the File Name and Format as well as how many images and what size the final image to be.

      The default setting work fairly well. I tested a 4x4 at 1024 pixel and it came out to 200KB. You can always resave this in another program to reduce file size.

      Good luck.
