I am currently the only leecher in a torrent with 1 seeder. I'm getting 1-3 kB/s, even though both the seeder and I are capable of much higher speed. When I check, the seeder is currently seeding 1070 torrents. My guess is that the slow speed I'm getting has something to do with the total amount of seeding torrents maxing out the seeder upload bandwidth. This isn't the first time I came across this situation. I thought about PM the seeder to suggest only seed torrents with less than 5 seeder if his intention is to keep the torrents alive, but I am afraid of coming across as condescending/rude.
Don't get me wrong. I am grateful that the seeder is still seeding this torrent, else it would be dead. But seeding it this way is useless if people can't download at all. My intention of starting this thread is to see if crowd wisdom can come up with solutions to educate people to stop seeding this way as it's of no benefit to the seeder or the downloader.
My suggestions:
1. Post this/similar advise up in the news section.
2. Limit everyone seeding to a number comparable to their average upload speed. ie: if your average upload speed is 50kB/s your max upload slot/seed is 20 torrents. Seed anymore than that simultaneously and only the first 20 torrent will be recognised.
