I scrape quite a few X accounts. Here's a list of posts I have on record from accounts that contain the word "dig": If anyone else is looking for content from suspended / deleted X accounts feel free to reach out, maybe I have something.

    • RE: I've destroyed my ratio

And just to reiterate, because I can't stress this enough: ratio doesn't matter, bandwidth is what matters (raw GB's).

      A 1GB torrent with a ratio of 50.0 means you've gained 49GB.
      A 300GB torrent with a ratio of 3.0 means you've gained 600GB.

Sometimes size does matter, because that's what determines how much you can download. The same is true for global ratio. For example my ratio may be 5.070 but that's with 28.63 TB up / 5.65 TB down, which means I can download 30.15 TB before reaching my minimum ratio. This means I'm much better off than someone with an identical 5.070 ratio but with 253.5 GB up / 50 GB down, who can only download ~257.9 GB before reaching their minimum ratio.

    • RE: I've destroyed my ratio

Here's what I do to maintain my healthy ratio (currently at 5.070):

      • Make sure you have at least 1 torrent seeding 24/7 even if it's not uploading anything, because you gain 0.5 seed bonus points for every hour the system registers you as a seeder. It's not much, but it slowly builds up over time.
      • Keep a healthy stack of seed bonus points on the side so you can use them to buy upload GB's if your ratio ever drops too low.
      • Ideally you want more to have more torrents seeding all the time. How many depends on your available disk space, upload bandwidth etc. I would target 20-100 for most users.
      • Prefer seeding larger torrents if you have the disk space for it, so your torrent client doesn't get bogged down with seeding hundreds of small ones. A single downloader for a 300GB torrent requires the equivalent of 600 downloaders for 500MB torrents. They may be fewer and further between but they more than make up for it in sheer bandwidth.
On the other hand, smaller torrents tend to get higher ratios (since they get downloaded more often), so they can be preferable if you are trying to get the most upload bandwidth out of limited diskspace (or limited download capacity).
      • Search for freeleech torrents periodically (every day if you can). Sort them by freeleech start time. Your prime targets are the ones with the most recent freeleech start time, as those will not have a lot of seeders yet and most of the interested downloaders have yet to come across them.
      • After a suitable torrent has finished downloading, leave it seeding for a few weeks/months. Evaluate your seeding torrents every few weeks/months. Look at their ratios and total upload bandwidth relative to the time they were added to your torrent client. Keep the good ones, remove the bad ones to avoid bogging down your torrent client.
      • Do not change which torrents you are seeding often. Stick with the ones that worked even if they haven't seen any traffic recently. Most torrents automatically settle down to a small number of seeders over time. You want to pick your horses and stick with them (rather than constantly dropping them and finding new ones) for two reasons:
1: It benefits you to become one of those few consistent seeders for a given torrent, even if it's not very active anymore. Other seeders will jump ship over time, so when a downloader does come by you will be able to provide a significant amount of the bandwidth (rather than just 1-2% on a more active torrent).
2: It benefits the ecosystem and avoids torrents dying, which benefits us all. We can't all seed 10k+ torrents. Each of us is technically forced to pick a handful to seed, so switching around all the time just causes interference with other seeders.
      • In a crunch, you can always recommence seeding on a torrent you've already deleted from your client (so long as you still have the files intact). You can redownload the .torrent file if necessary, then pause it immediately, move your existing files into place, and choose "recheck files" in your torrent client to get it back up to 100% right away and go back to seeding.

      I hope that helps.

    • RE: Apple Removes Cloud Encryption Feature From UK After Backdoor Order

Historically every totalitarian regime that has ever infringed on the privacy of its citizens did so on the basis that it was necessary to protect society... 😕 What's chilling is that they demand to bypass all checks and balances. No court orders, no requests for data, no transparency, no jurisdiction, just unlimited access for state bureaucrats to dig through the private data of anyone anywhere in the world.

It really goes to show that the people in charge have abandoned all libertarian values in favor of authoritarian ones. I can only hope that whichever government comes after them will swiftly abolish that power, but not before using it against their predecessors who instated it. Not out of spite or vengeance but to remind people that you shouldn't do it to others if you don't want it to be done to you.

Yesterday thousands of Austrians marched for Alex: video

His girlfriend was also interviewed by the media: video

Today the Austrian police also revealed they had arrested a 14 year old with Turkish roots who was planning a mass stabbing terrorist attack on a railway station.

"The suspect had a knife in his pocket at the time of his arrest, the ministry said. During a search of his home, investigators found numerous Islamic extremist books as well as sketches of attacks with knives and machetes at a station and against police officers.

They also found handwritten instructions for making explosive material to serve as a detonator for a bomb."

@blablarg18 It's also bizarre how selective they are in their outrage. I was having dinner with some fairly intelligent but left-leaning family members who only follow mainstream media news.

"Oh my gosh this Trump is such a dangerous dictator, and now Musk has access to all that personal information, it's such a crisis, such an existential threat to society!"

      Literally 30 seconds earlier:

"Yeah it's odd that we now have criminals roaming the streets with assault rifles and having fatal firefights every few days... Seems mildly concerning, not a great trend, I would prefer that didn't happen..."

It's crazy that these people don't realize that they are the Nazi's - casually supporting people getting a knock on the door from an authoritarian force & being taken away just because the people in charge don't approve of their opinions...

Perhaps it's because all their lives they've been fed the false narrative that the Nazi's = far-right, or that they did what they did because they were just evil monsters, instead of the much more nuanced truth that they thought of themselves as the good guys protecting their society from harm by the evil people, which is what made them feel justified in doing awful things (just like these fools).

@blablarg18 Thanks, it actually gives me some hope to know that a good immigrant stopped the bad one

It feels like in recent days there have been multiple stabbing attacks every day...

16/02 French police officer sustained life-threatening injuries after being attacked with machetes in Paris, suspect shot.
16/02 French police shoot a 17 year old who attacked them with a knife in the town of Annecy (yes twice in the same day).
16/02 Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham stormed by an immigrant gang of ~40 people after their 16 year old friend was stabbed the day before.
15/02 14 year old killed & 5 others wounded by a Syrian in the stabbing spree in Villach, Austria.
15/02 Two Israelis stabbed by a Gazan asylum seeker in Athens, Greece after hearing them speak Hebrew.
15/02 Nigerian asylum seeker (who had a criminal record for brawling and raping a woman) stabbed to death in Dublin, another seriously wounded.
14/02 Three men stabbed in Stratford, East London (18 year old arrested).
13/02 Man attacked with a knife by a Turkish consulate employee in London while burning a Quran (they were BOTH charged).
13/02 North-Africans stabbing each other in Italy.
11/02 Man tries to stab a Polish priest in Winnipeg, Canada.
09/02 Three men injured in stabbing attack in Stoneybatter area of Dublin, 29 year old Brazilian migrant charged.
08/02 Two orthodox Jews injured in stabbing attack near a synagogue in Crown Heights, NYC.

And I'm pretty sure I've seen more in the news that I'm missing now. The West is falling apart...

What was perhaps even more shocking than the murder itself was seeing the reactions from Muslims on X... Overwhelming cheers & praise, condemnations of the victim as a traitor and wishing he will burn in their version of hell.

Video of the attack (content warning)

Very sad but unfortunately entirely predictable.

@Rapsey-0 That side track doesn't interest me. My point here is Google AI.

I respect that. I'll try to steer clear of it and limit my point as it pertains to the Google AI.

Libs 100% believe that their morality is a universal truth. That's why they feel it's justified to impose it on the rest of the world, for example by having AI parrot their views on what is good or evil. Doesn't matter what the topic is. Gender-confused children? Race-relations? History? The AI answer should always present their ideas on what is good and what is evil, because they see their moral views as "the truth" and everyone who has a different view is just wrong / stupid / evil.

If you don't like it when the libs use AI as a vehicle to spread their own morality (which they believe to be universal) then why would you want it to spread yours?

My personal wish for the future of AI is that it can be a source of factual information. I would prefer for it not to make any moral claims or judgements, even ones I agree with.

Necessary disclaimer: I 100% believe that anyone who participates in the sexual exploitation of children deserves the most severe punishment.

(Pedophilia is rape of the weak & innocent. Desire & action are different, BUT, even person who merely desires to rape the weak & innocent, is indeed evil - until they can acknowledge their desire as evil & reject it, ie. "repent".)

Interesting view. But is a person who rejects the desire and repents not still a pedophile? What would you consider sufficient rejection / repentance?

    • RE: Germany - The more things stay the same - Interior Minister wants to crush opposition

Thanks for sharing your perspective @jaroonn, I find it illuminating.

Since then, the Republican party was evolved from being the party of limited government, to an umbrella organization of various "conservative" "Christian" "right-wing" causes.

Is that not an inevitable thing that happens on both sides? In a two-party system it seems inevitable that each side comprises an alliance of voting blocs. The left seems just as much an amalgamation of strange bedfellows. Now you even have LGBTQ+ people standing shoulder to shoulder with people who believe homosexuality should carry the death penalty. 🤷‍♂️

I do agree that the GOP seems to have moved away from being the party of limited government, but I don't think that's because it has fractured into various right-wing subgroups. In fact, from what I've heard, the people in these subgroups almost unanimously want limited government. I think the problem here is that any organization that exists wants to keep existing (because the people in it don't want to lose their jobs). So the GOP doesn't want to shrink down even though that's what almost all republican voters want.

But leaving aside the motivations of party politicians (who look after their own interests) and the parties themselves (which change over the decades or centuries), there does seem to be some kind of ideological distinction. I've often wondered about this question: what fundamentally distinguishes the left from the right?

So far the two things I have found that appear to be constant across time and cultures are:

      • The right looks towards individual freedom and personal agency to solve problems, whereas the left looks towards authority to impose solutions.
      • The right favors cold hard truths, whereas the left seems more concerned with optics and embellishment.

Is that latter point something you don't observe at all? I mean... Even the name itself, the "democrats", as if they are somehow more democratic than the opposition. Rather ironic when much of their agenda is explicitly anti-democratic (representing the interests of minorities rather than the interests of the democratic majority, and often at the expense thereof). But it works...

A few months ago a friend confessed to me that the older he got, the more right-leaning he became. He said that in the past he had always considered himself left-wing, because in his mind the left were the good guys and the right were the evil ones.

I asked him why he thought that, even though I already knew the answer, because I had recently asked myself that exact same question.

"Because that's what I was always told."

To me it seems clear that a lot of the support the left gets is not based on whether their arguments are sound, but rather on their public image being presented as "this is who you vote for if you're a good person".
