    • RE: New "refreshed" torrent policy?

      @underlvr:

… Honestly, my biggest gripe is that the new uploader was aware of the other torrent, since he COPIED my description.  I know this for a fact because I include information that most people do not and it also matches the format I use. ...

That isn't sure. If the uploader's description was bad, it might be that the approving has edited your's better in. When I make this, I leave usually the uploader description and add the edited in after "–---", but that is my personal way ...

To repeat, our activity indicator isn't reliable  :cry2:, but it is the only tool together with the snatch list we got.

Personally, I am aware that re-seed requests are not send to the original uploader. If not already done, you could request that as a site feature  😉

    • RE: New "refreshed" torrent policy?

      I've checked the Log:

      2012-02-22 05:59:31 Torrent 131323 (Studio 2000 - BedTime Stories #1) was edited by ****

      Likely just before approval

      2012-02-22 05:59:04 Torrent 69014 ([Studio 2000] Bedtime Stories I) was deleted by **** (Dead: 0 seeders, 0 leechers = 0 peers total)
      2012-02-22 05:56:43 Torrent 61928 (Bedtime Stories) was deleted by **** (Dead: 0 seeders, 0 leechers = 0 peers total)

If our last activity indicator shows 7 days or more of last activity, an original is deleted, else we try to revive it by promoting and re-seed request combination and wait a day if there is a response.
So the Moderator having deleted the 2 torrents must have seen more than 7 days of no activity. He has as well indicated the upload date of the "original" in the approved torrent description.
That Moderator is the current most experienced in torrent approval (no, no, not me), i.e. I assume he has done it with the necessary care and it not being a mistake of our new less experienced Moderators.

Such think happened to my own uploads already at different occasions, it seems our last activity indicator is bogus (a reason why I use 33 days of non-activity for dead torrent housekeeping).

      2012-02-22 03:10:25 Torrent 131323 (Studio.2000.-.Bedtime.Stories.I) was uploaded by ****

    • RE: A proposal, for converting video in a small file and use a correct format

Not all members got software to covert to all formats, but to some or don't know how to use them

Not all formats are played by all players, software and hardware, computer or consumer electronics devices

Restricting to only one format will reduce the choice

Best in quality is always the original release format untouched, what ever it is WMV, MP4, MOV, DVD Video, Blu-ray Disk

There is always a trade off between quality and size, there are different opinions what is small size and good quality and what is the right balance

If we would have to ban a format, I am quite sure the first would be rm and rmvb, small files but lousy quality.
My personal next would be flv, but it may contain MPEG-4 AVC like the MP4 you seems to prefer and therefore can be good quality (but most I watched are lousy, certainly because converted too many times, see above remark about the original release format)

For share ratio, it does not mater if a file is big or small, what matters is the moment when you enter a swarm, the connectivity of your torrent client programme, the upload rate, the queue settings etc…
I'll always prefer the original DVD at 8 GB versus a 700 MB MP4 of a video for home use.

    • RE: A proposal, for converting video in a small file and use a correct format

We have no rule against that and it will count as another format / version, so will be approved.

The above said, each generation of decoding/re-encoding will degrade from the original quality, because none of the codecs used are lossless. How much loss depends on the quality of the software decoder used and the re-encoding codec and parameters.

Imagine someone makes a MKV from your .mp4 by decoding/re-encoding (instead of stream extraction, remuxing) and then next someone a AVI …

    • RE: A proposal, for converting video in a small file and use a correct format

That video you link to is encoded with 0.16 bit per pixel, which would be "just" using a codec like MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid/DivX 5.xx).

Since it uses the more modern VC-1 codec, in the range of efficiency of the MPEG-4 AVC (aka h.264 or MPEG-4 part 10) it will have quite good picture quality (almost DVD like, if the source was DVD or better), while your MP4, if using the MPEG-4 AVC with 700 MB will reach only about a double size Xvid quality from the same source.

In addition, it is likely that this video has been published initially in the WMV format with the VC-1 codec and keeping it unconverted warrants no loss due to additional decoding/re-encoding processes.

Well the Collection argument might be right, unless it is a full site rip and does not contain duplicates.

However, I don't see any live link, just the name of a friendly competition site. Completion is important as motor of progress.

    • Hochladen mit µTorrent/BitTorrent

      Eine kurze Anleitung für µTorrent/BitTorrent:

      A/ Vorbereitung
Die Dateien zusammen tragen: den Film, die Bilder für die Beschreibung und den Text der Beschreibung

      B/  Torrent erstellen
Mit µTorrent eine .torrent Datei erstellen (im folgenden der "Torrent" genannt).
1/ Dazu in µTorrent > Datei > Neuen Torrent erstellen … klicken.

D/ Den Torrent wieder herunter laden

As for sorting, tracking of torrents, you can "Label" them in µTorrent or sort by tracker. I use Labels.

    • RE: Something you don't see every day…

The real danger of posting torrents from private trackers elsewhere (instead of creating an own new) is that your personal passkey contained in it might be leaked.

This danger does not exist here, because our site replaces the complete tracker URL with our tracker and the downloading member's passkey.

However other private tracker may use another system and for that reason we have a rule not to post GayTorrent.ru torrents on other tracker. Of-course it is possible to share data (movies) downloaded here on other tracker, just re-create a new torrent for the other tracker (read the manual on the other tracker about how).

I don't think it is a question of the version of QTM, which is unchanged since years, because currently each day we have tens of new uploads made with QTM daily.

Personally I suspect rather things like a browser update or disabled java script etc…

Actually you should not set your global upload bandwidth to "0" means unlimited in µTorrent but to not more than 80% of your internet connections upload rate. Else it may shoke the communication.

µTorrent got an Installation Guide with a Bandwidth test. Run that while you do ot upload/download or do other internet activity. µTorren proposes than an adapted setting.

To avoid the throttleing by your ISP, you should activate the Protocol encryption and not accept incomming not clear connections. It may help, but might not be enough if your ISP uses adavnced techniques to detect bittorrent exchanges. On the other hand, I've seed high download rates by you …

    • RE: Good torrents for an accidental leecher?

First, disable "Initial Seeding", this is only useful for low bandwidth uploaders IF they upload an OWN NEW torrent.

Then try new torrents, 1 seed only, before too many other members are jumped-on before you. Avoid torrents said to be original upload at an earlier date and avoid torents with multiple files.

Read the topic about starting on the right feet here in the Forum.

you have only seed about 16 hours, that isn't much …

There are different topics about "Twinks" vs "Youngbloods" … some say "Twinks" may be older than "Youngbloods" other that "Youngbloods" are more muscular less boyish. None goes in the direction to fill the 25+ gap

Mature in my eyes are guys from 35+, while grey/older is rather 45+ if not even 55+

What we are missing is a category for guys no longer twinks, e.g. 25+ and not yet really mature and neither "Hunk", "Bear", "Chub" etc… another moderator was proposing "Jocks" for it.

There is another question in my mind since long:

Why chubby videos of caucasians are nearly exclusive posted in the "Bears" category, while the "Chubbies" category is nearly exclusively used for Asian guys by our members?

      @raphjd : Yes, I know, as I said@Uwe:

      …
Here we speak about DVD Video which contain files in a certain structure : .IFO .BUP .VOB and using to encode audio and video only a limited number of codecs with a limited set of parameters used (Profiles, . e.g. main@main for MPEG-2 video). See as well our FAQ > http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/faq.php#489 (English FAQ) …

and like you I hate so called DVD or DVD-R or DVD Video, which are either shrunk or worse created from an AVI or other more compressed files (worst from rm files), because like you I prefer the original quality.

That is the reason why I said not to allow a DVD-5 if already a DVD-9 exists, because then it is for sure that the DVD-5 is a shrunk and/or left out parts copy = bad. Edit: This will be an additional restriction to the current rules already laid out there > http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=3595.0

Of course this means a DVD Video disk ripped to DVD Video format files, i.e. ISO or DVD Video Data files (means at least the VIDEO_TS folder) only, see above link.

    • RE: Creation of Duplicate Torrents

"DVD-R" is the name for a media: DVD-Recordable. This media exist mainly in two versions, single sided single layer DVD-5 with a capacity of ~ 4.36 GB and single sided double layer DVD-9 with ? (next to 9 GB) capacity.

These media can contain different formats of data and structure:

      • DVD Video
      • DVD Audio
      • DVD Data
Here we speak about DVD Video which contain files in a certain structure : .IFO .BUP .VOB and using to encode audio and video only a limited number of codecs with a limited set of parameters used (Profiles, . e.g. main@main for MPEG-2 video). See as well our FAQ > http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/faq.php#489 (English FAQ)

While at the beginning of publishing DVD (pressed, not recorded), the DVD-5 single side, single layer media was frequently used because much less expensive. Today the pressed DVD-9 are more common. However still today, some original DVD are DVD-5, I own for example the "Roboter" DVD from Cazzo, which is DVD-5.

When DVD-9 became widely used for original pressed DVD, recordable double layer DVD were not available, respectively very expensive and HDD space not affordable either. Therefore many DVD-9 when ripped got shrunk and/or parts removed (bonus, languages, trailer, FBI warning, …) to fit on DVD-5 DVD-R's.

The above said makes it difficult to right away ban DVD-5:

      • It can be the original not shrunk, not parts removed DVD copy
      • It can be a older DVD ripped long agao, no longer available in distribution of which no DVD-9 1:1 copy circulates

Therefore my personal preference goes to the following rule:
Don't allow a DVD-R in DVD-5, if a DVD-9 version is already available (be it ISO or ad DVD data files)

Shrinking a DVD-9 to DVD-5 can have the same effect on picture quality reduction than encoding a good AVI …
