yeah. worst thing is that they do some sort of security check at the malls and it appears that this gun slipped through.

Gay Mall Shooting :(:(:(
Sad story of a love triangle that ended tragically. by the way, here in the philippines, we have a town called Mexico. don't confuse it with the latin american one.

MANILA, Philippines — Love knows no fear.A teenager reportedly shot his alleged boyfriend before he shot himself in what appears to be a case of attempted suicide right inside a popular mall in Pampanga shortly before noon Tuesday, a police official said Tuesday.
Both are minors.
Supt. Wilson Santos, chief of police of Mexico town, said the suicide angle was further established with the recovery of what appeared to be a suicide note from the gun holder described to be 16 to 17 years old.
“The suicide note says that he is willing to die with (name withheld on account of his being a minor),” said Santos in a phone interview.
2 teens in SM Pampanga shooting declared brain dead

Minors who figured in shooting incident inside the mall did not survive. When news broke out that a 13-year old boy killed a 16-year old boy in a shopping mall in San Fernando City, Pampanga, it sent shockwaves to parents, even more so when it was found out that the younger of the two boys killed himself after shooting the older boy. Both boys are declared brain dead.
Earlier reports said that a suicide note was recovered from the younger boy stating that he is willing to die with his companion, an alleged lover. Details about the real cause of the shooting are sparse, and this poses so many questions as to what would compel a very young boy to commit such act.
As details trickle in, the police are leaning towards a pre-meditated murder and eventual suicide of the perpetrator, caused by jealousy over a third party. Timeline of events shows that prior to the shooting, the younger boy had updated his status in the social networking site, facebook. Based on the update, he was said to have created a t-shirt design bearing the name of the third party and the alleged plan to kill his lover.
The 17-year old boy, on the other hand, was said to be carrying a card, which indicated that he is happy with the relationship with the younger boy. The boys were said to have met through online chat in May and became lovers in June.
Further reports have disclosed details on how the shooting started. According to the initial results of the investigation, the two boys were seen sitting in a bench inside the mall when the younger boy pulled a .22 caliber gun and shot the older boy in the head. A moment later, the younger boy shot himself in the temple.
The mother of the 17-year old boy said that she does know the boy who killed her son. On the other hand, the parents of the 13-year old boy thought their son was at school.
Despite being in hot waters for a security lapse, the SM management said that they are extending help to the victims.
“Allegedly, they are lovers,” he added.
Quoting the account of some witnesses, Santos said the gun holder shot his 13-year old boy companion inside the annex building of SM Pampanga at 11:45 a.m.
When the boy fell bloodied, the other one also shot himself with the same .22 caliber handgun.
“They both suffered bulletwounds in the head, they are in critical condition,” said Santos.

RE: Ireland Recalibrates Ties to Roman Catholic Church
hey, it's all about economics. you pay by your dollar vote or your actual vote. if the demand for religion wasn't so high (oh yeah the opiate of the masses) then they would have died out a long time ago.
governments are run by people, who are in turn voted by constituents. so if the people in power aren't what you want them to be, then make a movement of your own and try to convince the rest of the ambivalent country to care. ranting won't get anywhere.
it makes no sense to condemn religion or government because even your ability to put food on the table is a result of the system working for you.
on the other hand, maybe we need to look into ourselves and ask if we've done anything to even remotely relieve the "societal ills" that plague us. I can't say that i've done all that I can, which is why i don't judge.
just my thoughts. don't kill me.

RE: Ireland Recalibrates Ties to Roman Catholic Church
okay, here we go again…
while churches have their faults, who doesn't?
Here in the philippines, they do have some link to politics, but we can't discount the facts that they were responsible for educating a huge portion of the leaders today. three of the top four colleges are run by either jesuit, franciscan, or the la sallian brothers. of course the state university (where i came from) wasn't a religious institution, though.
I've also been a donor to a convent which houses orphans and victims of rape (who then became unwed mothers) and tries to get them back on their feet. Not all religion is bad, in my book.
I think both with the government and the church, the people (thus constituents) should take a stand, and in Ireland, they finally are. So there.

RE: ***The last book you read…***
The Power of Six - Pittacus Lore.
This is the sequel to the novel "I Am Number Four". The book, as always, has a much richer storyline than shown in the movies. I liked the movie, but the book was way better.
It also has a way of grabbing your attention, so I'm a bit careful not to read during the week because i might end up sleeping in the wee hours of the morning.

RE: Vatican Named in International Criminal Court Complaint
I for one don't think that there's an actual conspiracy. You mean like the Pope saying "Oh, let's hide this and claim it never happened." Nope, it just doesn't seem right. This also implies that Pope John Paul II was in the same conspiracy, and I just can't see that happening.
I don't think it fits the "crimes against humanity" portion. That's like blaming Obama for bullying in schools. Oh it must be his fault because he did nothing to stop it. After all, we're in the USA and he's the head of the USA. And bullying has been ongoing for the past century.
no offense intended, leatherbear. just my opinion.

RE: ***The last book you read…***
I'm reading Lirael by Garth Nix. it's the second book in the Old Kingdom Trilogy. It centers around a rather unusual fantasy setting, where necromancy and sorcery are powerful.
It is somewhat similar to the regular coming-of-age books and is the reason why these books are normally found in the young adult section. I like the way it weaves a complex story while at the same time maintaining readability. Some books that get a bit complex normally stress me out, but this series doesn't. It also has a way of exposition that will slowly orient the reader to the culture in the world of the Old Kingdom.
