Ah. You do bring a good point there. My only "qualm" with DVD-5 is that in some cases, the DVD-5 format is a shrunk down version of a DVD-9 format. I can definitely appreciate the disc space that it would require, as I myself am finding a constant need to upgrade my hard drive storage capacity.

Perhaps you are correct in that leaving things the way they are for now is probably the better way of doing things. Thank you for this information.

Thank you for the clarification. I will go back to my bf and get the original store bought discs that are in the original DVD-9 format and will rip them to ISO in such a manner that they will retain their original DVD-9 format, as well as keep the non DVD (DVD-ROM) content contained within the original untouched ISO.

Given that there's a certain amount of question as to whether or not uploading a DVD-5 version when a DVD-9 version already exists would constitute a "duplicate", may I suggest a discussion among the staff to see if a mutual decision can be made collectively among the staff? My goal here is to be sure that everyone can be on the same page, and that the rules are made clear in order to be fair to everyone. While you are correct in that the size difference alone renders it another format, it stands to reason that it is in essence uploading another copy of a torrent that already exists, just in inferior quality by comparison.

Don't get me wrong though, I also would seem to think that uploading a DVD-5 when a DVD-9 does exist could constitute a duplicate, particularly seeing as how if you have a program such as DVD Shrink, you can render the DVD-5 version yourself. So all that being said, is this something you can bring to the staff for discussion for me please? I think it may help to clear a lot of potential headache in the future.

I know for sure under Canadian law (particularly the portion better known as "Christopher's Law"), such an act would be considered a sex crime, which in most cases, carries a minimum of a 2-year sentence (per count), as well as having to register annually with the sex offender's registry.

It would be helpful to know the particulars of the problem that you are experiencing. Such details include:

• The stage in the upload that you are (e.g. have uploaded, but are now having trouble seeding)

• The torrent client that you are using (e.g. uTorrent)

• The operating system you are using on the computer that you are trying to seed with

• The particular error message you are receiving (if any)

• More detailed information on the problem or symptoms that you are experiencing (e.g. uTorrent says seeding, but the tracker doesn't)

• Whether you are using QTM (Quick Torrent Maker) or your torrent client to upload the new torrent

With this information, it would be a lot easier to provide you with a more definitive and detailed solution to fix the problem that you are having and get you on your way to a successful upload.

On the note of duplicate torrents, I'm aware of the generally accepted 10% rule for size difference, however this is a little different when working with DVD-R torrents, since there are two different types of DVD discs (single layer, and dual layer). Say for example that a torrent already exists on the tracker in DVD-R format, however the format it is in is in DVD-9 (dual layer) format, however the version that I have is in DVD-5 (single layer) format. Would uploading a DVD-5 of the same DVD (including the menu structure and such) constitute a duplicate torrent?

If so, then there is another question to be asked, seeing as how there are two different primary formats that can be used for DVD-R format uploads. The real question here is that if the existing torrent already exists in DVD-9 format and is in the raw .vob file format in a VIDEO_TS folder, and the DVD-5 version that I have is in a disc image format such as .iso, is the difference in the format composition enough to render it a "different format", or would it still constitute a duplicate?

I just wanted to clarify something, since there are a wide range of opinions among staff with respect to how collection videos are to be handled. In particular, I am wanting to upload Queer As Folk (both the US and UK versions) in DVD-R format. The problem here is that for example Queer As Folk (UK) Season 1 is broken down into 3 separate DVD discs, and Queer As Folk (US) Season 1 is broken down into 6 DVD discs.

I know that normally collection rules limit video collections to a size limit of 2 GB in size. In a case such as this where just the 1st season of the original UK version consists of 3 discs, each of which is larger than 2 GB on its own, how would uploading the whole season work? Would I need to upload each DVD in the season as a separate torrent, or can I group all 3 discs for the original UK season 1 into 1 torrent, then group all 6 discs from the US series season 1 into 1 torrent and upload Season 1 of the UK and US series independently in this case, or would I have to break down the upload into 9 different torrents (1 torrent per disc of the series season)?

I just want to clarify this before possibly running into a somewhat controversial, or otherwise questionable situation. Can I please get some more information on how to handle such a case here? Thank you in advance.

Yes… Fancydude does have a point there. You do need to exercise some caution when it comes to such hook-ups on account of the unexpected happening. For example, back in the 1980's there was a huge controversy about the rather well known artist George Michael (as in the days of George Michael and WHAM!) was caught by an undercover cop that was cruising in the bathroom to catch people. In the end, George Michael got caught, and was arrested on at least one criminal charge for solicitation of sex.

Bottom line here is that while I will not deny that there is a bit of a thrill to such experiences, you also must be careful when making such decisions, because you never really know who the other person is, or what their intentions truly are. After all, the parody song titled "Zip Me Up Before you GoGo!" was created as a spin off of a George Michael hit as a result of the incident leading to his arrest back in the 1980's.

Just saying, whatever you do... be careful. The worst part of it all is at this day and age, there is no such thing as "entrapment" anymore these days.

Even here, the term "unlimited" only refers to the time spent on the internet, as well as the total amount of data uploaded or downloaded in a month. Despite the total upload and download amounts combined being unlimited, almost every provider will have a maximum speed that you can reach in a 1 second interval… In short, that's where they get you with their "limits" on an "unlimited" internet connection usually.
