New Rationator Version 2.2

Nearly nine months after we implemented rationator 2.0 on our tracker we had now enough time to review and discuss the results of Rationator 2.

After some discussion we decided that the gliding scale is and was a good measure to learn about ratio and sharing, especially for new users.

The version 2.2 now prevents our users with large download traffic from running in the ratio trap with steps of 0.1 by now continuous ratio steps of 0.05 - so they will be alerted earlier.

Here are the new values:

Just a follow up from last night's TV-News:

The company manufacturing the swabs claimed, they were not certified for DNA samples.

Was Deine Daten bei uns angeht (upload/download/ratio…) brauchst Du gar nichts zu machen, die sind gespeichert und bleiben es auch (und, um es deutlich zu sagen, an denen kannst Du nichts ändern, schon gar nicht sie zurücksetzen).

Wenn Du keine Sicherung von Deinen Videos hast - dann hast Du leider die A...karte gezogen. Tut mir ja wirklich leid das zu sagen, aber das ist nun mal so. Die Torrentfiles für bereits runter geladene Videos sind überhaupt kein Problem - die kannst Du immer noch einmal laden (zum Seeden), auch wenn Deine Downloadrechte gesperrt sein (werden) sollten.

Wenn Du über eine Sicherung Deiner Videofiles verfügst, lad Dir einfach die Torrentfiles noch einmal herunter und öffne sie erneut in Deinem Client - dann kannst Du erneut seeden.

Depends on what you will share.

• Sharing single video files (also DVD/CD iso files): zip/rar does not make sense

• DVD rips (VIDEO_TS folder) as long as you can share complete folders (like in torrents): zipping does not make sense

The "no sense" remark is the reason why such zipped files are not allowed on our site.

• Applications: in most cases the installer is s single executable file (.exe, .msi whatever). Zipping such a file does make sense because a lot of sites don't allow up- /downloading of executable files. Also Winblows gets stomach ache when downloading executable files (which you should only do if you have a good and reliable and actual anti virus scanner!!!)

• Collections of pictures, CD rips (MP3, …  files) : zipping does make sense

The current best upload speed I have heard of is VDSL - reaching (as I was told) up to 5 MBit/s upload speed). Alas VDSL is curently not available everywhere in Germany but only in some regions. Plans of German T-com are though to offer VDSL as their next offer all over Germany.

As usual the upload speed depends on what you are willing to pay - you can order also a symmetric DSL - but it's a bit awkward to find a knowledgeable telephon partner who has enough knowledge about their offers and b) I was told (some years ago - I could lease such a line for 300 EUR per month - opposed to a 30 EUR offer for a "normal" ADSL connection (1 MBit upload speed).

If uploaded torrents of yours are gone from your profile, they are in fact not anymore on our tracker. Probably deleted from a staff member because of being dead for some time. (You cited that thread already - thanks ).

If you are quick, you might find the deletion notice in our site log (Log in the blue menue bar on top of every page). But this log file shows only around a week's worth of data, after that it will be gone.

I am preparing to post a DVD now and it will be a split ISO file which will be split into 1GB parts.  A image file is a good way to post because it is a perfect bit for bit copy (image) of the original.  But as you say, and which I totally agree with, to post a torrent in a single huge 4 or 7gb file should not be done because of other members that cannot download due to the file format of their hard disk.  Many new external drives are formatted with FAT32, not NTFS.

Making a split ISO file is a method to retain a perfect image and keeping it accessible for everyone.  I will post the link for you to check out once I have posted it. 

LOL - ok now, finally I understood - but, sorry to say, I'm not too keen to open a new can of worms about "split ISO files". They DO need a lot of explanation until ppl (especially new users) will understand what they are about and how to play them on their computers. Where is the advantage of having a split ISO file about a VIDEO_TS folder anyway? A ripped VIDEO_TS folder is also an exact bit to bit copy of a DVD's content.

A good reason to use FAT32 is to have them read on standalone Media Player and DVD Player etc. …usually not compatible with NTFS.

And I never found an external Media player able to play ISO files (split or not)!

It certainly will solve the problem of new torrents, but not any that are currently uploaded.  I'm not sure what your not understanding? I wasn't referring to existing torrents and neither is this thread.

ImgBurn will split the image into 1GB parts.  The the seeder can make his torrent with those parts.  The parts will not need to be joined to burn the DVD or to mount it to a virtual drive when the default MDS small file is included.

My problem is not a problem with uploading DVDs - I rip them to a VIODEO_TS folder, in which by the current DVD rules all bin files (*.VOB) have a maximum size of 1 GB - so storing and uploading such a folder is not a problem on a FAT 32 drive. Problems still come when you try do download a torrent with a single data file > 2GB - not possible. And I read the origonal format question (and the poll) from the point of view of a downloading member, That's my reason for  suggestion to all who bother with uploading torrents to this tracker to rip it a VIDEO_TS folder instead of a single ISO file because big ISO files are often a problem for Downloaders!

That is my answer to the OP when he asked which formats other members prefer for their downloads.
The answer is still: VIDEO_TS folders - not an ISO file!

If a ISO is going to be made, I would ask to please use ImgBurn (imgburn.com) to make the image.  It will properly make the ISO and also make the MDS file used to mount or burn the image properly from a DVD-9.

This program is also able to split the image into 1GB sections for people using older systems.

That does not solve the problem of an uploaded ISO: it is usually > 2 GB and has to be downloaded firsthand (which will not work on a FAT32 drive - you need to have a NTFS formatted drive for files > 2 GB (on older Winblows versions only possible with additional software which uses additional ressources and is mostly not suited for stablle 24/7 usage in older machines (my experience).

Like Uwe I can't agree that our rules are some kind of "incarnation of evil", especially when I have a look at our helpdesk. or the number of times our offered help has been viewed in the past. I still can't understand why 47 % of our users answer our poll on the home page with "What the F**K is Rationator 2.0 ?" and don't care about their ratio?

How often do we (all of our staff members) have to spell out (and now read my lips:) This is not rapidshare!

The rules were written by non English as first language people.  Some languages are spoken in very blunt manners and it's acceptable to them as a culture.  They aren't being offensive, as that is just how they speak in normal terms.  When this translates into other languages, they still carry the tone with them.

I admit: my personal knowledge of the English language is limited. Even if I'm allowed to flatter myself that I think I have a working understanding of English - some times I'm lost - like just now: for the German expression "sich selbst schmeicheln" my online dictionary offered "to adulate so., to bootlick (Amer.), to cajole, to caress, to coax, to flatter, to palaver, to schmooze so. chiefly  (Amer.) [coll.], to cater to so. [fig.], to play up to so. all translated with the same (or presumably near) German meaning "schmeicheln". I'm rather sure there are differences between all those possibilities - sorry, I don't know them so I use to flatter - at least I do now that verb. Same thing is with our rules. They were formulated in German from the start - after our user base grew we tried to establish English as our site language because we assumed it would be understood around the world (and we really have members around the world). Now we try to do our best according to our knowledge of English.

Let me apologize for some expressions which don't sound nice - nobody (and I repeat nobody) tries to intimidate our members, nobody! But there is as an example this very rule since the site went online: do not create duplicate accounts. Why, do you think, we implemented our invite-only system? Because we don't want to have new users? ROTFLMAO (you can find this abbreviation explained in our chat rules btw.). Is it impolite to tell you what will happen when you break this rule? Sorry - I don't think so. In case we set rules we should also be allowed to explain what will happen if you don't follow the rules.

There is a lot of help available on this site - not the least is our help desk. I can't remember a single case that no help was given there or in followinf PMs since I was a moderator here myself. Just keep in mind: all of our staff members have work to do on this site, all of us (yep, also admins) are volunteers who are doing this site work in their spare time. No - this is not whining but pure fact.

Another possibility to use the image tag in postings:

upload your picture to our bitbucket. And then use that link in an img tag.

You can also use an attached image as an image in your post inside an image tag. Just use the attachment path (something like http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=xyx;attach=abc;image). Also that will do the trick.

All these ways do not link to an external server but remain on our own server.

es ist eine grundsätzliche Sache - weil beim http protokoll sehr viele Informationen übertragen werden können. Wichtig ist: können - nicht müssen. Wenn wir Links selbst weiterleiten, können wir z.B. dafür sorgen, dass Dein Login-cookie nicht übertragen wird, was uns bei direkten Links (auch z.b. über tinyurl) nicht möglich ist. Auch sogenannte Link-Anonymisierer wie z.b. anonym.to entfernen (meistens) nur den sogenannten Referrer Header - sprich verschleiern nur wo Du herkommst (was bei tinyurl nicht der Fall ist), entfernen aber nicht evtl. cookies von unseren Sites. Ausserdem ist es eine Sache des Vertrauens, ob Du dem Betreiber des Dienstes vertrauen willst, dass er das, was er versteckt, nicht selbst speichert und dann Deine gesammelten Angaben weiter verkauft.

Noch ein zweiter Grund: Arbeitsersparnis für alle Moderatoren - es ist genug Arbeit, alle Forum Postings zu lesen ohne zusätzlich entscheiden zu müssen, welche Links nun erlaubt sein könnten oder ob es sich um einen sogenannten Anonymisier-Dienst handelt.

Deswegen unsere klare Regelung: nur live links zu unserer eigenen Site *.gaytorrent.ru und zu unserer Str8/Bi Schwester-site *.sextorrents.ru sind erlaubt. Alles andere an live links ist nicht erlaubt.

Ich denke ein dritter Grund ist auch noch wichtig: eine solche Regel sollte für alle User einfach zu merken sein, jedenfalls besser und einfacher zu merken als wenn wir eine Riesen Liste aufmachen würden, welche Ausnahmen trotz Verbot doch erlaubt sein könnten, das liest doch sowieso keiner - genauso wenig wie unsere Hilfe Angebote z.B. in unserem Forum.

Wie Uwe schon bemerkte (Danke, Uwe): bei einem Torrent, den Du von userem Tracker runter lädst, kann das nicht passieren, unser Tracker schreibt das Tracker-Adressfeld komplet mit Deinem passkey neu in den Torrent, natürlich nur mit unserer Adresse und nicht noch andere Tracker dazu (schon gar nicht öffentliche Tracker wie piratebay ode so). Wenn da also andere Tracker zusätzlich drin stehen, musst Du den Torrent woanders her haben (oder jemand hat auf Deinem Computer den Torrent verändert.

Generell: Achte darauf - auf unserem Tracker nur Torrents zu verwenden, die Du auch bei uns runtergeladen hast (sprich: die torrentfiles von uns hast) - und vor allem achte darauf, keine Deiner Torrentfiles an andere weiter zu geben - ansonsten kann Deine Ratio ganz schnell ruiniert sein, weil jeder, der den Torrent mit Deinem passkey (= Deine Anmeldung an unserem Tracker) benutzt, saugt auf Deine download Kosten.

Der Unterschied zu anderen ALT (Anti-Leech-Trackern) ist der, dass wir das Torrentfile neu generieren, mit ausschließlich unserer Adresse und einigen evtl anders gesetzten Flags - privat torrent u.s.w. Das ersparen sich viele ander Sites, so dass wir uns auch keine Sorgen um mehrere Tracker im Adressfeld machen müssen wenn solch ein Torrent hochgeladen wird.

Vielleicht sollten wir eins noch klären: Ich finde auf unserem Tracker kein Video Tucson.avi - woher stammt dieses Torrentfile?

I've seen a lot of rips with very low quality, even though they have a pretty big file size.

EDIT: The reason I prefer Video_TS folders is that my seedbox doesn't support transfer resume on files over 2gb.

I agree completely with raphjd, my reason though: my torrent computer still runs with Win ME (an ancient notebook with external HD) where files above 2 GB are not possible.

Ich habe im deutschen Chat auch schon mal vor einigen Monaten eine Umfrage gestartet, muss aber leider feststellen, dass Du den Thread wahrscheinlich übersehen hast

Entschuldige, aber das kann ich so nicht glauben. (Siehe weiter unten etwas mehr dazu). Wir sammeln nur die Werte, die Dein Client uns meldet. Wenn Der Client uns (alle halbe Stunde) meldet, er hat 1 GB hochgeladen, dann wird das bei uns pflichtgemäß addiert und gemerkt.

Allerdings: Ich habe gehört es soll Clients geben, die sich einzelne Tracker nicht merken, und es dabei belassen, die gesamte Menge seit dem letzten Tracker-Kontakt an den nächstbesten Tracker zu senden der sich meldet, was natürlich Quatsch ist - aber wir haben diese Fehlinterpretaion des Protokolls auch nicht programmiert. Ob Vuze das auch so macht? Keine Ahnung.

Ich habe für mich den Schluss daraus gezogen, in einer Sitzung nur einen Tracker zu aktivieren, damit bin ich von einem solchen Problem auch nicht betroffen.

Generell zu sagen: benutze möglichst nie einen öffentlikchen Tracker zusammen mit einem privaten (ALT - anti-leach wie bei uns) zusammen in einer Sitzung, da gibt es eine ganze Reihe von Sachen, die sich dabei beissen können.

Vielleicht mehrere andere Tracker? Kann aber auch sein, dass Du Deine Downloadgeschwindigkeit etwas drosseln solltest. Wenn Du Dir mal deine Userdetails ansiehst (Profil -> User details) dann sehe ich da momentan:

Vielleicht sollte ich (mehr aus technischer Sicht) auch noch einige Bekerkungen los werden to dem Thema:

Einige meiner Torrents werden nicht geseedet, obwohl sie zur Verfügung stehen (grüner Pfeil nach oben).
Wenn ich mir bei dem jeweiligen Clip (Film) die Seeder-/Leecher-Liste anschaue, dann steht bei "Connectable" ein "No".

Andere Torrents werden aber einwandfrei geseedet.

Hast Du Dir bei den anderen Torrents auch die Peer Liste mal angesehen? Not connectable heißt nicht, dass Du nicht seeden kannst.

Technisch ist es so, dass Dein uT (uTorrent) alle halbe Stunde an unseren Tracker Deine Daten meldet (bzw. unser Tracker sie abfragt), wie er das bei jedem Cienten macht. Dabei gibt er Deinem uT auch die IP Adressen von neuen Clienten die seeden oder leechen. Je nachdem was dein uT mbraucht, kann er dann neuen Clienten kontaktieren und das Seeden kann losgehen. (dann bekommst Du alle halbe Stunde mögliche neue Leecher. Bei den anderen Clienten läufts genauso - die versuchen Dich (Deinen uT) zu kontaktieren. Wenn Du nun nicht connectable bist, können die neuen Clients Dich nicht erreichen und vergnügen sich anderweitig - und Du hast nichts davon (für Deine Ratio)

Wenn Du aber einen anderen Client kontaktierst, sieht das anders aus (bei einer vernünftigen Firewall zumindest - die merkt sich die Adresse dann und macht dann die Verbindung für diese IP-Nummer auf - Du kannst seeden.

Im Grunde ist das ähnlich wie: Du veranstaltest eine Party und lädst Leute ein und hast einmal Deine Tür aufgemacht um sie rein zu lassen. Kurze Zeit später läuft die Firewall hinter Dir her und macht die Tür (ohne Dein Zutun) wieder zu - Deine Gäste stehen vor der Tür und kommen nicht an die Goodies Deiner Party

Sind nun ein Seeder und ein Leecher beide nicht connectable - dann herrscht natürlich eisiges Schweigen zwischen den beiden - nicht gut

Wenn jetzt nur einige Deiner Torrents auf connectable no stehen sollten und nicht alle, liegt das an der erwähnten halben Stunde zwischen den Abfragen - aber das glaube ich weniger, ich glaube eher dass Deine Firewall-Einstellungen einen Kontakt von aussen (auf Deinem uT port) verhindern. Es kann auch passieren, dass unser Tracker Dich nicht erreichen kann - dann wird das Problem noch schlimmer, weil dann die erwähnten 30-minütigen Kontake von underem Tracker auch nicht mehr stattfinden, was Deine Seed-Chancen natürlich auch verschlechtert.

Lösung: Firewall und/oder Router kontrollieren und den Port für uTorrent Kontakte von/nach aussen auf machen!

Natürlich ist das, was Goateebiker geschrieben hat, zusätzlich natürlich auch zu berücksichtigen!

Nur noch eine Bemerkung dazu: Du bekommst Seed Bonus Punkte auch dann, wenn Du nur Torrents im Seeding anbietest und keine Leecher vorhanden sind!
Natürlich gibt es Seed Bonus nur einmal für die Zeit - egal wie viele Torrents Du seedest, nicht etwa für jeden Torrent separat - nur für die Zeit!

Und noch ein Tip zur Begrenzung der Uploadgeschwindigkeit (aus der FAQ übrigens): Stelle Deine gesamte Uploadgeschwindigkeit in uT auf etwa 80 % von dem ein, was Dein ISP Dir liefert - das sollte keine Probleme geben auch für gleichzeitigen Download. (Bergiss aber nicht den Unterschied zwischen KiloBit (vom ISP meistens) und KiloByte (bei uT) - 1 KiloByte sind 8 KiloBit!
