I had an (outdated) old version of the advertising php script on my computer where ads (containing seperate links) in fact got included in the html page at our server. In the meantime adbrite only works with scripts on their own servers.

I completely agree with your last paragraph:

Technical background for interested:

The html pages are created on our own server and the ads are included there, before the page is sent to your browser. Only some few javascript ads try to capture an IP address. If you click on an advertisement your IP must be sent to the respective server, how else can the server know where to send the content to??? (Basic knowledge about the stucture of the http protocol 1.0 or 1.1 is needed to understand this last paragraph).

A little bit more knowledge of PHP is needed for the next paragraph:

Our server, that is correct, has your IP. Beeman, you are of course correct that the server, who delivers (or creates) a web page must have the IP of the one who wants to get this website in his browser. It's a bit more complicated if the site creating the html page need other parts from other servers (adbrite in this case). but it is, as said above, our server which gets the parts, not the user's address (not taking in account dangerous or spy scripts) which should be blocked by security software every Internet user should have installed on his computer before using the internet.

If your paraniod you can always install softwere such as noscript (for firefox) to block these outside connections. however that would provent the adds which pay for this site displaying (so if you do that imo send a small donation to the site to compensate them for there loss of add revenue)

You loose a bit more (example the upscaling of picture attachments in the forum) which will soon be possible also in our torrent views and more.

A tip for uploader: if you know to need long to upload or to have to interrupt it for some time, mention it in the torrent description or a comment with indications when you will seed including time zone. This will avoid nasty comments, reports etc and therefore is part of our rules.

My actions currently will start after a 7 days period, that should have given enought time to complete to a full copy distributed (though our rules require 3 other seeder before leaving, to warrant the health of a torrent).

When you get a PM by me, react on it or you will see my darker and darkest sides >:D

Let me say it bluntly: this is not only Uwe's opinion, sorry it is not yet stated in the rules. I urge all uploaders who can't seed full 24/7 until the minimum upload is complete:

Mention it in the torrent description or a comment with indications when you will seed including time zone.

Let me give one addition: seeding only one or two hours a day is not enough to comply with our rules for a new upload!!!

We should note that after some press announcements the sentence is going to be appealed.

Anleitung für neue Benutzer von GayTorrent.ru

Ich will versuchen, diese Anleitung kurz und präzise zu halten, damit es für Dich nicht zu lange dauert zu verstehen, wie GayTorrent.ru arbeitet. Beachte dass diese Anleitung für Menschen gedacht ist, die vorher noch nicht mit Torrents gearbeitet haben - wenn Du mit der Arbeit mit Torrents bereits vertraut bist, wirst Du besser daran tun, die Regeln und die FAQ von GayTorrent.ru zu lesen bzw. die amderen Anleitungen, die im Forum stehen

1. BitTorrent allgemein.

BitTorrent ist eine Art Dateien herunter zu laden. Die Methode ist eine User-zu-User Übertragung (englisch peer-to-peer (auch P2P) beim Heruntzerladen. Das bedeutet, Du lädst die Daten nicht von einem Server oder einer Web-Seite in Internet - Du lädst die Daten von anderen Leuten, Leuten wie Du, die ihre Dateien mit Dir teilen.

Und so funktioniert es:

Zuerst lädst Du eine kleine Datei von einer Webseite, sie wird "torrent" Datei genant (sie könnte zum Beispiel "Besserer schwuler Sex.torrent" heissen). Diese kleine Datei enthält alle Informationen die Du zum herunterladen der kompletten Datendatei brauchst (z.B. "Besserer schwuler Sex.avi). Die wichtigste Information aus dem Torrentfile ist die Adresse (oder URL) des "tracker".

Der Tracker (engl. to track = verfolgen, aufspüren) macht eigentlich nur das, was sein englischer Name sagt. Er behält die Übersicht über alle User, die ein bestimmtes Datenfile anbieten (teilen) (auch "seeden") und alle, die versuchen diese Datei zu laden ("leechen"). Der Tracker macht dann seine Arbeit und verkuppelt die Anbieter mit den Suchern.

Du hast wahrscheinlich bemerkt, dass TEILEN ein wichtiger Teil der Arbeit mit BitTorrents ist. Wenn niemand seine Dateien anbietet wäre keiner in der Lage, irgendetwas herunter zu laden. Viele BitTorrent Gemeinschften erstellen Regeln um sicher zu stellen, dass jeder seinen Teil zum Teilen beiträgt. GayTorrent.ru hat auch solche Regeln - Ich werde einige wichtige später erwähnen.

Ein Weg um auf dem Laufenden zu bleiben wie gut Du teilnimmst ist, auf deine "Ratio" zu achten. Das ist im Grunde das Verhältnis von hochladen zu runterladen. D.h. eine Ratio von 1,0 bedeutet Du hast genausoviel runter- wie hochgeladen. 0,5 heisst Du bist ein bischen gierig und hast mehr runtergeladen als Du mit den anderen geteilt hast. Eine Ratio von 3,0 zeigt, dass Du großzügig bist und 3 mal soviel hoch- wie runter geladen hast. Also: je höher die Ratio desto besser. (Für Mathematiker: die Ratio-Formel ist sehr einfach: hochgeladene Datenmenge geteilt durch runtergeladene Datenmenge: Ratio = UL / DL)

2. Was brauchst Du zum Anfang um zu starten.

Alles was Du brauchst ist ein "BitTorrent Client". Das ist ein Programm das Deine Dateien für Dich runterlädt (in kleinen Teilen von verschiedenen Leuten) als auch die Datei mit anderen teilt, damit sie von Dir laden können.

Es gibt viele verfügbare "BitTorrent" Programme - suche einfach bei Google nach "BitTorrent client". Mein persönlicher Favorit den ich DRINGEND für den Gebrauch bei GayTorrent.ru anrate (ich werde später noch erklären warum) ist µTorrent (auch oft einfach uTorrent)). Die Homepage dafür ist hXXp://www.utorrent.com

Nachdem Du Dein Client Programm installiert hast, solltest Du in der Lage sein, die .torrent Dateien zu laden. Dein Webbrowser wird die dann automatisch Dein BitTorrent Programm starten, um sie zu verarbeiten. Hinweis: Möglicherweise musst Du Deinen Browser schliessen und neu starten um die Änderungen zu merken.

3. Spezielles für GayTorrent.ru.

Dieser Abschnitt behandelt nicht ALLE Regeln von GayTorrent.ru. Wir werden aber die drei wichtigsten Dinge besprechen die Du wissen musst. Trotzdem solltest Du alle Regeln, die auf der Webseite und im Forum zur Verfügung stehen, auch lesen und sicher stellen, dass Du sie alle auch verstanden hat.

ERSTENS, ich empfehle dringend uTorrent als BitTorrent Programm zu benutzen (hXXp://www.utorrent.com) - dies ist das Programm das die meisten Moderatoren und Admins von GayTorrent.ru benutzen und sehr gut kennen. Wenn Du Probleme damit hast, werden sie bestens in der Lage sein, Dir zu helfen. Wenn Du ein anderes Programm benutzt, wird die bestmögliche Antwort wohl sein "So kannst Du das Problem in uTorrent lösen, hoffentlich arbeitet Dein Programm ähnlich". Wenn Du bereits angefangen hast, mit einem anderen Programm zu arbeiten und zu uTorrent wechseln willst, auch dafür gibt es Anleitungen im Forum (z.Zt. leider nur in Englisch) - und Du kannst das auch tun ohne Deine halb geladenen Dateien zu verlieren.

Hinweis: Es gibt auch einige Moderatoren die andere Programme benutzen und einige die einen MAC benutzen - also auch dafür ist fundierte Hilfe verfügbar. Eine Frage im Forum oder auf dem Helpdesk wird Dir bestimmt die richtigen Antworten bringen.

ZWEITENS: Wie bereits im ersten Abschnitt erwähnt wurde, GayTorrent.ru hat seine eigenen Regeln, denen Du folgen musst - tust Du das nicht, wirst Du mit den Folgen leben müssen - bis hin zum BAN.

Was der Autor im Original meinte, war der Entzug der Downloadrechte; der Begriff BAN meint: Ausschluss von der gesamten Site und Sperrung Deines Zugangs zu GayTorrent.ru. Das gibt es leider auch, wird aber nur sehr selten und in schwerwiegenden Fällen genutzt. Wirklichen BAN gibt es nur sehr selten und niemals für niedrige Ratio allein.

Entzug der Downloadrechte: Dein Zugang zu der Site ist nicht gesperrt, Du kannst Dich einloggen und die Webseiten nutzen, das Forum, Helpdesk, Chaträume usw. Du kannst auch weiterhin hochladen und/oder seeden. Sogar ein neuer Start des Seedens von toten torrent files, die Du früher runter geladen hast ist dann noch möglich, auch wenn Du das Torrent file selbst nicht mehr hast. Im Grunde ist alles möglich, um Deine Ratio zu verbessern.

Die erste wichtige Regel für Neuelinge dreht sich um Deine Ratio - sie muss über einem bestimmten Wert bleiben, ansonsten werden Dir die Downloadrechte entzogen. Der fogende Teil wurde aktualisiert auf die derzeit gültige Regelung mit Rationator 2.2

Es gibt keinen allgemeinen Wert für die Mindestratio, sie ist abhängig von der Menge Daten, die Du bereits runtergeladen hast und kann von 0,2 (weniger als 2 GB Download) bis zu 0,8 (mehr als 800 GB Download) reichen. Die aktuellen Werte sind im Forum zu finden. Änderungen werden im Forum und in den News auf der Homepage angekündigt.

Nun, wenn Du neu anfängst bei GayTorrent.ru wird Deine Ratio 0,000 sein - was auch Sinn macht, wirklich. Du kannst nichts teilen, wenn Du noch nichts heruter- oder hochgeladen hast, oder doch? Also musst Du etwas herunterladen, um es teilen zu können. Wenn Du Deinen ersten Download lange genug zum Teilen bereit stellst wirst Du erleben, dass Deine ratio einen vernübftigen Wert erreicht.

Auch wenn Du in diesewr Zeit unter Deiner Minimum ratio liegen solltest, Gaytorrent.ru versteht das. Du bekommst in diesem Fall nur eine Warnung und hast bis zu 6 Wochen (Je nach erforderlicher Minimumratio) Zeit zum Teilen, um Deine Ratio auf einen akzeptablen Wert zu bekommen. (Auch hier gilt: die Werte können sich ändern und werden im Forum und/oder der News Info angekündigt.)

Ein guter Rat für den Anfang: lade eine gut nachgefragte Datei, viele "leecher" und wenige "seeder". Dies stellt sicher, dass die Datei, wenn Du sie fortgesetzt weiter zum Teilen bereit hälst, eine gute Nachfrage hat. Damit wird sich Deine Ratio einfach und schnell verbessern.

Und DRITTENS: Lade NIEMALS die torrent Dateien, die Du von GayTorrent.ru bezogen hast auf irgend eine anderen Site im Internet hoch (oder verteile sie in einem anderen P2P Programm! Das ist wichtig für DICH! Die Torrent Datei enthält einen Teil "passkey" den der Tracker benötigt um festzustellen wer Datein runterlädt. Gibst Du die Torrent Datei an andere, wird der Tracker feststellen, dass es Dein Passkey ist und die Downloadmenge bei DEINER Ratio berücksichtigen. (Passiert dies versehentlich, kannst Du selbst Deinen Passkey ändern. Infos dazu gibt es in der FAQ, im Forum, auf dem Helpdesk oder bei den Moderatoren).

Du kannst natürlich auch Dateien die Du mit Hilfe deies Programms von GayTorrent.ru runter geladen hast auf anderen BitTorrent Sites hochladen. Notwendig ist nur, dass Du dazu eine neue Torrent Datei erzeugst. Aber damit wären wir schon nicht mehr im Teil für Anfänger

I really recommend reading first before asking - it isn't very amusing to get the same answer all the time: read this, have a look here. Not amusing for you and also not amusing for our staff team, who managed to write all those help issues only to realize - nobody will read them.

But let me not discourage you: I'll give you some more hints

As a first thing: your downloaded files. You are always able to re-seed torrents you have downloaded from our site again. Hint: If you don't have the torrent files anymore - you can always re-download them again from your details page (click your username beside welcome back on top of every page or click profile in the blue menue bar and then User Details and stats) scroll down until you reach your last 50 completed downloads. Another hint: re-seed torrents with most leechers, that will give you the best chance to increase your ratio.

Second: Your uploaded torrent. As I could see at the time I posted this answer you were not seeding your uploaded torrent. Not seeded torrents cannot be approved from our staff so you can't get anything from your upload. Also our FAQ has a lot of help available. Something important too: Don't forget our rules and threads about banned files on our tracker - in the forum category "GayTorrent.ru Rules and Information".

You see - you can find lot of help here - also on our help desk. But to make a good impression with help requests: show our staff members, that you try to find out about your problem as much as you can - only then ask questions on the help desk

Currently account parking is not implemented - used accounts are not pruned for 180 days (as you already know). We know that certain countries in the middle east don't allow access to sex- or gay sites. If you are in such a country there night be a solution to access our site too. As far as I know all different *nix implementations have their "hosts" file located in /etc (in case I'm mistaken - please update my knowledge and give us other locations!)

This file is usually a privileged file it may only be edited by a user with root permissions. a root user can edit this file with his preferred editor from a console window (or his preferred GUI-editor). Because the current MAC OS/X is based on linux the linux and MAC versions to handle that file are rather similar. Sorry, dunno about earlier MAC versions

New Rationator Version 2.1

Nearly nine months after we implemented rationator 2.0 on our tracker we had now enough time to review and discuss the results of Rationator 2.0.

After some discussion we decided that the gliding scale is and was a good measure to learn about ratio and sharing, especially for new users.

We did not overlook that long time users with a big upload amount had some problems with the big minimum ratio 0f 0.8 - so we decided to loosen rationator 2.1 a bit for members with big download traffic.

In general we prolonged all grace periods for all users which get a ratio warning.

Here are the new values:
