    • Happy new year and thanks to all of you!

      Happy new year

      We wish all of you a happy new year and a good and successful year 2009.

      We know - without your help this site could not be the site it is today, nearly all figures that tell about success are raising - we currently have more than 76,000 users and more than 10,000 torrents - that for sure can make us all proud what we managed together!

      In 2008 we had some major improvements on this site, the most important ones are our new current forum and our new rationator 2.0

      Both proved to be successful - postings in this forum are raising, topics are raising, communication is raising. With rationator 2.0 the seeding efforts of our members is rocking skywards. Let us all be active in 2009 to keep this tendency!

      Last not least: let us not forget our moderator team. Without their volunteer work this site could and would not be the site it currently is, so let us all say

      Thank you to all members of the staff team!

      As to our wishes for 2009:

      We have some other surprises planned for 2009 - we will announce them hopefully in a timly manner 🙂  on our home page (the timely manner is my personal new year's resolution for 2009 🙂 )

      Just one thing for 2009: Rationator 2.1 is coming too. Same concept of gliding scale but a bit more relaxed values and prolonged grace periods.

    • RE: How to improve your Ratio

      Just a word of caution for your ratio will raise the more you download (have a look for Rationator 2). So I advise to build a ratio buffer so the change won't come as a surprise for you. If you keep an eye on your ratio you get used to building some supply before the next ratio hits you.

      But as long you keep your uploads speed I don't expect any ratio problems for your account in the future 🙂

      HI atlanonymous,

      let me try to answer your many topics in a simple way - one after another 🙂

      @atlanonymous:

      Hey Guys. I'm having a bit of trouble. I am completely computer illiterate apparently and I have no idea what I'm doing. I just downloaded a file from this site using utorrent.com.

      Being "computer illiterate" is nothing bad - I bet there are a lot others among our users - but a lot won't admit that 🙂 It's only just a bit you should know - please have a look at our "starter's guide" for basic information.

      @atlanonymous:

      Apparently the download was 1.17GB (Im assuming thats a very large file)
      My message inbox said I have three days to get my ratio up to 0.2. Currently it is a 0.000. And my upload status is at 0 as well. I have a bonus of 0.5…...whatever that means

      Some things have happened:

      At first: your download seems to have worked ok (hope you enjoyed it 🙂 ). Then (now come the bad news): because you were the only leecher for that torrent (and are now too) you did not have upload traffic for that torrent - so your upload amount is still 0 😞

      Because ratio is defined by upload traffic divided by download traffic (in short UL/DL = ratio) you can see 0 / 1.17 GB remains 0 - simple maths. As our system watches (not only your) ratio you were caught with that bad ratio amount and got a system warning for bad ratio - together with a grace period to raise your ratio to your minimum requirement of 0.2 - you can have a look at you details page (profile -> user details) and see which traffic you currently need to get your minimum.

      @atlanonymous:

      I left my download open and it says "seeding"….but I see no progress on my uploads. I really dont know what to do and I'm very lost.

      Keep that torrent in seeding state for the time being - the best adviced I can give you! As I jusrt saw - there are currently 2 other leechers who want to download that file - even if there are 22 seeders for that torrent - you have a good chance to get the upload amount of 298 MB you need to reach your minimum ratio. Again: seed, seed, seed. If you are ready seeding: seed some more 🙂

      As another advantage that will be rather effective for you: you get seed bonus points (surrently 0.5) for the time you seed - 0.5 point for each hour seeding. Those bonus points can later be exchanged into upload traffic which will also increase your ratio (see above).

      @atlanonymous:

      I read some of the posts on here to try and understand whats goin on but that didnt help either. Can someone please help me in the most SIMPLE was possible? lol

      I hope my short explanation could help you a bit for your first steps. Feel free to ask again if you did not understand everything, here in the forum, on our help desk or send a PM (private message) to any moderator you trust.

    • RE: Sending member IP info off-site

      To tell it once more also in this thread:

      We do not give away IPs! (The numbers you see in that javascrip snippet is our site's identification with our advertising partner - nothing about user data)
      We do not give away any user data.
      We even do not keep server log files.

      IP numbers do not contain personal information.

      There is nothing like personal information we ask for when you sign up (you remember?) or log in - so we do not have any personal information of our users (except what you yourself write or post on the site).

      On the other hand: this site could not exist without advertising. So we need advertising partners to keep this site staying alive.

    • RE: Is it possible to knw vid duration?

      @aaliass:

      im not sure about it but doesnt it also depend on the video format ?

      like a '.wmv' file will be of a shorter duration than a '.avi' file of the same size…..im not too sure about this...just a hunch and hoping someone who knows more can elaborate on it 🙂

      You are of course correct. In the earlier times of video codecs there was (and still is) a simple rule: a VCD coded video (MPEG-1 format) takes (roughly) about 10 MB for 1 min duration playing time. But that started to change already with the MPEG-2 format and continues until today because there are no really fixed coding rules for different codecs, each and every codec claims to deliver better (more or less "losless") compression and smaller resulting video files.

      Just keep in mind: there is no lossless video compression - what is left out (compressed) by a codec once is left out forever. You can only have an artificial interpoloation (also called a guess of what had might been there) of the compressed content.

      That's also a reason why we ask uploaders to give some technical details about their uploaded files. (Alas there are not really many who give those details 😞 (

      Until the users adds the duration to their description I don't see a resolution - except download of course 🙂

    • RE: ΜTorrent Releases Long-Awaited Mac Version

      As usual in Beta tests: do them at your own risk!

      Programming errors or so not only can occur - they definitely will occur (from a 30 years' retrospective)!!!

      So dont complain with us if there shows a bug which will damage your ratio - We (our staff) can't (and won't) support Beta issues. At last: the FAQ tells says should and not must. Beta versions are not forbidden or banned from the tracke. As said above: at your own risk without any help from our staff though (but µTorrent has a good support forum 🙂 )

    • RE: Und wieder Fragen zur Ratio :)

      noch ein zu erwähnender Punkt:

      Es gibt "MultiProtokoll-clients" die neben dem Handling von BitTorrents auch noch andere P2P Protokolle unterstützen (wie z.B. das emule Protokoll). Diese Client Programme haben häufig die unangenehme (um nicht "gefährlich" zu sagen) Eigenschschaft die Torrent Dateien in einem freigegebenen Ordner zu speichern. Damit kann jeder fremde Benutzer sich einen Torrent von unserer Seite zu laden.

      Da die Torrents von unserem Tracker euren persönlichen Passkey enthalten (zur Anmeldung an unserem Tracker) ist die Weitergabe eines solchen Torrent Files an andere ein großes Sicherheitsrisiko für die Ratio - weil dann jeder, der sich den Torrent runterlädt, den auf Kosten euere Downloadmenge (und damit auf Kosten eurer Ratio) sich dieses Video runterladen kann.

      Deswegen raten wir dringend von der Benutzung solcher "Mehr-Protokoll-Programme" ab!!!

      Siehe dazu auch unsere FAQ (zur Zeit leider nur in der englischen Ausgabe <schluchz>), da steht einiges mehr darüber.</schluchz>

    • RE: Pop-up ad when logging in?

      Let me make (and tell) some things clearly: (Sorry if it's going a bit technical at times).

      @ThrobbinRod:

      OK, I found the answer - the rollover popups are created by this java applet hard coded to some pages.

      Your Ad Here

      at first: as you can see from your code snippet: that is no jave applet but "only" a javascript (Javascript is embedded (and mostly activated)  in nearly every modern browser). Java applets on the other hand need the java runtime evironment and are something completely different. As you can also see - the source of that advertising is not our server but our ad-partner (src="http://ads.adbrite.com/mb/text_group.php…") so the only "embdded by the staff" action is to put your cited code snippet on the page.

      @ThrobbinRod:

      Since it automatically contacts the adbrite server, the IP address of any member is transferred to adbrite
      every time you go to the home page or login.

      Your IP address is sent with each and every request you make with your browser (or any other Internet related program) - where else can the server know where to send his answer to your request?

      Like amice told correctly - your ISP is the only one who can put together your personal data and your IP - also in Germany a judge is needed to force your ISP to divulge that data, not even the police alone (without a judge's decision is allowed to ask for that connection. Just to say it again: If you use any kind of the internet - your IP is open to the whole world - something you have to (or should) know before using the internet.

      So I can't agree with the conclusion:
      @ThrobbinRod:

      This is terrible security for the members!

      a second point: do you have an impression how much our server lease is each month? That is the reason we use (and need) advertising. There are not many advertising companies who accept ads from a gay torrent site or accept a gay torrent site as an advertisding partner. OK - there are some of them - but with much more aggressive advertising than adbrite.com. Or do you like advertising with a huge automatic popup window that covers you complete screen or opening a lot of new windows in your browser? I for sure don't like advertising at all much less agressive advertising.

      As a "last resort" against advertising: All donators have the option to switch off advertising.

      @raphjd:

      …That being said, I have no idea why the system is as it is.  Maybe there is greater need for money to run the servers and the admins thought this was the best solution.

      As I told before - the advertising source is from adbrite.com, not from us. In this case it is adbrite who decided to implement those trick in their advertisement. Now that leaves only two solutions for us: either drop adbrite as our advertisement partner (and try to get money elsewhere - any solution is welcome) or keep them (and get some money to pay for our servers.
