He's gay and out, he just doesn't advertise it. I guess people just like to assume he's straight to be nice hence the comments on many of his youtube videos claiming he's straight. Sorry I don't have a specific link to show to corroborate this, but there have been videos where his friends (and even Joey himself if I recall correctly) have confirmed his sexuality.
