    • RE: Help - VPN for dummies?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.

When you connect to a VPN server all of your internet traffic is encrypted and sent via the server. It doesn't matter what you do online, everything goes via the server.

As all your traffic is going through their VPN server, the people running the VPN server can "see" everything you are doing. As running the server costs money, if you do not hand over cash for a connection, then you are handing over your privacy. Not that there's any guarantee that a provider of a paid connection isn't also spying on you.

But if you try to use a "free" service, they ARE spying.

A website called TorrentFreak (other websites are available) will sometimes publish a review of VPN providers.

    • RE: This Is Crap!!!!

      Hi,

Erm, If you have a computer running torrent software, then it's a "seedbox" - sort of.

There are companies who rent out computers with torrent software preinstalled (called seedboxes). The advantage is that you (should) have better up and download speeds. It can be cheaper than using your own computer. And it can make it a little more difficult for anyone to find you if you're being naughty by downloading copyright material.

Setting one up isn't that difficult. The companies that rent out seedboxes have everything setup for you. All you need to do is use your web-browser to log-in to access the torrent software. Normally these companies will provide lots of help info' as well.

I can't be more specific, because it all depends on which company you sign up with.

    • RE: Alcohol - How much how often?

The temperance movement is, unfortunately, very much still alive. So trying to find independent, reputable,  scientific research is almost  impossible.

You say you feel you're drinking too much and I'm curious as to the reasons. Do you live somewhere where "the demon drink" is view with negative connotations? Or other people are trying to pressure or persuade you to reduce your drinking? To which I'd suggest you tell 'em to "Go Forth and Multiple".

Perhaps you are experiencing side effects (be honest with yourself)? beer-belly, mood swings, hangover, etc. Then I'd recommend you change how you drink or even reduce the amount.  Drinking 3 pints in a day is not normally a problem. But a day is 24 hours. If you're trying to drink 3 pints in 1-2 hours, that's a problem.

I don't drink, not because of ideology or "health" reasons. But simply because I find most alcoholic drinks have an unpleasant taste.

    • RE: I'm trying to be a good citizen…

      One Word: SeedBox

Some people object by claiming "a seedbox is too expensive". Really? Do you know how much electricity your computer uses? Then there is your ISP bandwidth usage allocation. Not to mention the general wear and tear on your computer. Running a home computer 24/7 will shorten it's life.

It's possible to get a quality seedbox with lots of extras like your own personal cloud, backup and video/audio streaming for $0.59 per day. So how does that compare?

When talking about math(s) most peeps say "I don't understand math(s)" click their brain does dead. But it's important you understand how your electricity bill is calculated.

      So, here's an example. A computer that uses 500W. That 500 watts per hour, or 0.5Kwh (500 / 1000). Leave it running for a day (24 hours) that's 500 * 24 = 12,000w or 500 / 1000 * 24 = 12Kwh. And if your electricity supplier charges $0.05 per Kwh, your computer cost you 500 / 1000 * 24 * 0.05 = $0.60 per day.

So your computer costs you $0.60 to run for a day and the seedbox costs you $0.59. Which is more expensive: $0.60 or $0.59? And remember, that doesn't include the cost of replacing your computer when components stops working properly because it's been running 24/7.

A seedbox will reduce you uploading bandwidth usage. And add a layer of security by making it more difficult for others to easily see what you're doing.

Some peeps feel using a seedbox is selfish as it makes life difficult for those who can't. But you can adjust your seedbox so it doesn't cause problems for others. You can easily limit the seeding speed and configure the box to automatically stop/delete the torrent once you've reach 1:1 ratio.

Because seedboxes come with a generous about of disc space, you're able to leave torrents seeding for as long as it takes to reach 1:1 ratio. So not only are you being a nice person by seeding for a long time, you're also collecting seeding bonus.

    • RE: Own Porn Website

There would seem to be two problems:
      1 A lack of users
2 A lack of referrals from search sites.

Problem number one is a problem of general marketing. And as others have said, trying to create another wanna-be-me-too site is unlikely to work.  You need to offer something customers/users/clients (delete as a applicable) can not get else where.

That "something" can be anything. Not just fetish type content, but also presentation. For example: videos of a single male wanking. Many sites present this basic content in an unique way.

There is also the functionality of your website. You have an amateur section. Can amateurs up-load their own videos? How easy is it? What "social-media" functions does your site also offer?

Problem number two is a very different problem and can be a "catch 22" situation.  Google (other search sites are available) have their own agenda and criteria on page ranking. I doubt Google is totally up-front on how they rank pages, but they may have some guides.  Have you tried searching for your websites? Maybe that may provide an insight on why other users can't find them.

How visible are your sites to the index spiders? Index spiders (other terms are available) are bots that create the indexes used by Google etc.  So if you're using lots of fancy stuff (eg: Javascript) then it's possible you're site can't be properly indexed. And if you're site can't be indexed then it can't be listed in search results.

    • RE: Body hair

      @magic2600:

is there a way to remove the hair from the body for ever ?

Electrolysis and Laser treatments will destroy the active hair follicles and thus preventing the hair from re-growing.

The way your hair grows can "trick" people into believing these are temporary treatments. All hair goes through a three stage process. This means what you think is re-growth, is in fact hair growing from a different follicle - one that was dormant at the time of treatment.

A hair follicle without an attached hair can not be treated because the practitioner can't locate the hidden follicle. And because hair follicles can be dormant for a long time, it can take many months or even years to completely clear all hair.

This, of course, assumes you are being treated by a competent practitioner. If the hair follicle is not completely destroyed then can hair will re-grow. Often thinner and lighter in colour. Also, there is a risk of scaring. The scars look can look similar to acne scars and can become very noticeable when you tan.

      @raphjd:

Here's the good part.   Reliability of prostate cancer screening is about the same as it is for breast and vag cancer, according to the NHS when you do a bit of digging.

Can you please provide links to your sources? I'm of the age where this is an issue and unless I'm able to point to reliable research there's no way I'd be able to get any GP to listen.

    • RE: Masturbate

The act of orgasm triggers the release of endorphins known as endogenous opioids that induce a sense of both euphoria and drowsiness. So yes, it's normal to feel tired.
