      • Is there a way to tell if I'm behind a NAT?

Some torrent clients will clue you in.Screenshot 2025-04-02 233546.png

This is a snip from my BiglyBT client. (Formerly Vuze. formerly formerly Azureus.) You see the dark blue circle next to one of my active torrents? The tooltip for this reads "Means that the tracker is ok, you're connected to peers, but you don't have any remote connection. You may have a NAT problem if your torrents stay on this status all the time."

    • RE: RE-SEED REQUEST (BUTTON) ABUSE… FINALLY EXPLAINED! OUR GUIDELINES:

@leeniedo You know, I tried going into the comments there to nudge that guy regarding etiquette, and he's ignored my comment and added 3 more demands in the span of 25 minutes. Considering he's only been on the site since January and his ratio is already tanked (0.03, requiring nearly 150GB upload just to get back to his minimum 0.55) you would think he would be better off concentrating on avoiding ratio-jail.

I feel embarrassed for the poor fool who invited him to the site.

    • RE: RE-SEED REQUEST (BUTTON) ABUSE… FINALLY EXPLAINED! OUR GUIDELINES:

@BKisalive In a way I think that's fair. Whenever someone hit the reseed button everyone who downloaded the torrent in the past gets a message. Now, they're either going to see it and fulfill the request, see it and not fulfill it, or not see/read it and live long happy lives in blissful ignorance.

The thing is that those messages don't time out. They stay in your inbox until deleted, so if someone just keeps requesting the same thing over and over again it just results in an inbox so full that nobody will bother to read any of it which is ultimately counter-productive. At any rate, people will either reseed or they won't, and asking on a daily basis is unlikely to change things. I'm sure there are probably many people who may only check the site once a week (or even less) so when they do eventually see the umpteen messages they may not even bother reading them.

Not having a go at you though. I just think once a week is a reasonable timeframe, especially when you consider that people might be spamming reseed requests for something that nobody on the site has anymore, so it can't be reseeded.

    • RE: Invite for other site?

@cp2000 What kind of content do they have? For movies and TV I've used Torrentday exclusively for the last few years now. They're not too bad on the games front either. I don't really look at music or anything like that there. For ebooks, audiobooks etc I tend to stick with MyAnonamouse

(Before you ask, I don't have any invites for either atm. LOL)

    • RE: Trouble Viewing ALL Downloaded Torrents

@Lukasjoao1 Actually, I tell a lie. You could look back through all (at the time of writing) 310211 pages of uploads and look for any highlighted entries as that will show ones that you've grabbed in the past, but even then I don't know how complete that would be. 🙂

    • RE: RE-SEED REQUEST (BUTTON) ABUSE… FINALLY EXPLAINED! OUR GUIDELINES:

@BKisalive Well, I'd say nobody is taking note of any of this anyway. When I get reseed requests (which is most days) it certainly feels like many of them are from people who just like clicking buttons over and over again. I've had up to 5 requests in a single day from the same member for the same torrent. In a way I can understand why, because the last time I tried pressing it there was no feedback at all on the page, leading me to question whether or not the button had in fact registered the click at all.

The obvious way to sort the whole issue out would be for someone to simply change the button behaviour so that once pressed (by any member) it would be disabled for all members for a set period of time and/or add a popup or message on the page that lets the member know their request has been registered by the site. Sadly I see neither option being implemented as even the most basic housekeeping tasks for the site seem to be too much effort. It feels like the mods are the only staff who ever do anything, and they don't have the power to touch this sort of thing.

    • RE: Seedbox

@cp2000 As far as I know you can seed from multiple IPs with no issues. You just need to make sure that nobody else with an account here is seeding from any of them or you'll get flagged for multiple accounts.

In practical terms, my advice would be to put the newest and most popular torrents in your seedbox, and only seed older and less in-demand stuff from your home connection so that you can make the most of the insane upload speeds you tend to get from a seedbox.

    • RE: What are best practices for making a torrent freeleach?

I'm sat on nearly 7500 points, and that's only worth about 720GB, so unless you've been collecting for a looong time I doubt you're going to get far like that. What up/down speeds do you get from your ISP?

You're not at the panic stage, regardless. You've got nearly 4TB of download buffer before you hit your 0.8 minimum ratio. If you're dead-set on improving things then I'd defo say to get a seedbox for a month to try it, as you should be be able to get back k to 1.1 with some careful curating of what you download. Even if you don't go down that route you should find that targeting downloads with the characteristics I outlined above should help, as long as your speeds are what I'd term as competitive and not Stone Age.

    • RE: What are best practices for making a torrent freeleach?

Back when I had potato internet which made it a nightmare to maintain a good ratio I did try using a seedbox, and only for a single month at a time. It's been ages since I had to do it, but all I did was add anything new that looked like it would become popular. (Think popular performers in the busiest categories. That sort of thing.) I'd jump onto anything that:

      • Was uploaded very recently, preferably in the last few hours, and

      • Had only 1 or perhaps 2 seeders with lots of leechers, and

      • the bigger the download the better, (Simply means there's more upload traffic to be had)

You ignore the whole concept of downloading what you want for yourself, and concentrate on what others are hungry for, and the high speeds you get make you a very attractive peer to connect to.. As I say it's been a while but I seem to remember being able to farm in excess of TB of upload credit in a single month that way with very little effort and I'm sure I could get even higher rewards if I really tried, all for the paltry sum of about £10 to £15 for the seedbox.

As @ianfontinell-0 says, you need to look at how big your deficit is first. Then you know what it will take to fix it. If you give us some numbers I'm sure it'll be an easy task.

    • RE: Making a Seeding Server (Requesting Tips/Advice)

I've been using BiglyBT (formerly Azureus and then Vuze) since forever. It performs well, and gives you a lot of control over things. I particularly like the ability to automatically label and move downloads when they're added or completed, as it just simplifies things for me. I don't know if other clients might have the same functionality, but I'm used to the interface now and have no plans to change.

Sometimes you may just have to accept the possibility that nobody on the site has the file anymore and that a reseed request will never get filled. It's a shame, but it happens.

    • RE: has staxus been banned from the site?

Are they even producing new content? I see quite a bit of their older stuff being posted on various sites as new DVDs under new studio labels purporting to be new scenes. I know a lot of studios do that from time to time, but it's like they're just re-releasing their whole back catalogue and pretending it's all new. Bit of a shitty move with regards to anyone who still buys physical copies.

    • RE: Can we consider updating the rules on pictures in listings?

@john32123666 I suspect that in many cases the small images are a result of people grabbing the preview thumbs from the web rather than grabbing the full image (or indeed bothering to just take their own screenshots.)

last question - new here - where do people post requests for new torrents / videos / models? I cant seem to find it? Idk if that is a taboo forum thing? Thanks

If you plan to stay then my advice would be "Don't." Requests for content have been banned across the whole site for quite a long time now. You risk the wrath of the powers that be if you take the risk.

If I may be so bold, it would be a good idea to review the rules ever so often, and actually read them in such a way that you are confident you understand them, which many members seem to not bother doing. This particular rule is found in the "General Rules" section and reads "Requests for uploads are strictly prohibited. This includes the torrent descriptions, comments, forum and shoudbox" (Typos and all! LOL)

@john32123666 Yes, that's how I can instantly see if a listing is missing the pics, but its gone on all listings for me now, even if there are pics for them.
