I used to live with a master drama queen / martyr. He would deflect all his faults, and at the same time manipulate people into getting what he wanted by creating an elaborate false reality of drama where he was the victim that needed to be placated. Years after I parted ways with him, he managed to move in with his boyfriend's family. His boyfriend's mother had recently married a rich man who also had some kids. It's complicated, but one of the key moments in that arrangement was when the rich guy's daughter died instantly when she drove into a utility pole while texting on her phone. She was texting the guy who used to be my roommate. Anyway, he maneuvered his way into that family, taking the girls room, casting his boyfriend to the curb, getting a full college education, and a load of other stuff.
The point being.. this guy was a master of using a fictionalized "reality" to achieve his goals.
This is quite similar to the "celebrity" class in the entertainment industry.. whom often get referred to with the generic term "Hollywood" even though they might be a celebrity based in Las Vegas, NYC, etc. These entertainers, producers, directors, casting agents, etc. live a very mercurial life where they have massive ups and downs in fame, attention, money, power, etc. Most of them have one or two major successes, followed by decades of just coasting along in mediocrity and unemployment. The ratio of qualified actors, performers, etc. to jobs is probably at least 100 to 1. To be successful, these people can't be realistic. They have to pretend to be something they are not, be the life of the party, be interesting, be controversial, kiss asses of the people in power, associate with other mercurial people, etc.
This results in many short-term affiliations, meetings, social events, etc. One element ignored by the media is that it's not just someone in "power" taking advantage of someone selling themselves or at least marketing themselves for career advancement. This is preceded by a lot of false schmoozing, partying, drugs, alcohol, drugs AND alcohol, etc. Drugs & alcohol are classic "pants removers". These people bitching that they were groped, molested, raped, etc. are rarely innocent themselves.. they were playing the game and then came back to bite the hand that fed them. We know that Bill Cosby did that routinely. The latest we hear about are Harvey Weinstein, Louis CK, Kevin Spacey, etc. It seems that Charlie Sheen used drugs, alcohol, and influence to fuck Corey Haim (the dead Corey) up da' aze when he was 13 years old and then again years later. It's also ironic that the people complaining about being molested don't complain UNTIL they are so old and washed up that they are no longer fuckable.
Getting back to the topic.. "Hollywood" has been going apeshit over attacking Trump.. hurling shit at him, and frankly little if any of their shit and attacks have stuck. By doing so, "Hollywood" opened the door to making public attacks on people for things that happened long ago, commonplace. Their attacks on Trump failed.. but then the backlash began.. creeps like Hillary Clinton, Harvey Weinstein, John Pedosta, and all the other crooked political and "Hollywood" members of the "swamp" started lighting fires and getting burned by their own.. and those charges are STICKING. They did their best to bring Trump down, and failed.. and now the REBOUND is in effect. Ain't dat a bitch?

Problem is.. the girl was later found alive several months later.. walking down the street.. in broad daylight.. with the family she freely / voluntarily left with. The father of the family that abducted her was an alcoholic who kept getting arrested for being a drunk, etc. This resulted in the man not bringing in enough money to satisfy Elizabeth Smart, so Elizabeth eventually had enough and ratted out the family that she voluntarily left her home with. (At the very least, Elizabeth Smart should have been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of Richard Ricci).
13 years later, the widow of Richard Ricci - whose life was ruined - committed suicide from a broken heart.

One other interesting thing about this case… virtually everyone concluded that Elizabeth was dead. He didn't just believe it, he KNEW it. The police IGNORED the father. In fact, before falsely nailing Richard Ricci for the crime that never happened, they were accusing the father of doing it. They even pretty much ruined the father's life by portraying him as being a rich flaming homosexual who had a wife and children as a beard. There is even an SNL sketch about the father with Dana Carvey portraying him as a raging nelly homo. What..everrrrr! Youtube aggressively removes all clips of Viacom programs such as Southpark and SNL, so the clips are not available online.

I do agree with you about the confession part, though. He confessed, so life without parole would be my choice. HOWEVER, why was there a trial if he confessed? Did he change his mind about the confession and plead not guilty?
Anyway, some people are tricked into confessing by the police. I've told the story of the 4 July 1976 rapes in my hometown. The police picked up a well like mentally disabled man and convinced him that if he confessed he could go home and that would be the end of it. Pretty much everyone in the town knew the guy and saw him at the fireworks display, because he was very friendly and always said HI to everyone he saw, even if he didn't know them. He avoided the death penalty because he was mentally disabled. Anyway, the Innocence Project or one of them, after nearly 20 years, got him out and proved he was innocent.
Public Defenders, despite working for the state, have very little resources compared to the DA who work for the same state. They also don't have the time to do a good job for each case.
Public Defenders in Florida are a joke. They show up in court with all their active cases in a box containing files that is about 2 feet long. They often do dozens of cases per day. The same public defender working on a misdemeanor is also handling 1st degree murder cases. I know of a public defender who has a felony record herself, which is supposed to result in being disbarred, but did NOT in her case. Anybody having her as a public defender could get a mistrial because of that fact.

I know those scholarships exist, we have some for women but they are mostly for kids from native communities, without regard to gender.
In the USA, they used to use a test called the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) to determine one's academic potential. Now that test is rarely required, and it's results are not given much weight. All colleges care about is making money. Whatever scheme brings the most endowments and government money is the scheme they follow.
An interesting thing about Universities is that some of them get so much money they don't know what do with all of it.. and it is amusing to see how they find ways to piss money away.
A man was just executed for a rape which turned into a murder. Let's assume that the death penalty is appropriate for such a crime.
But there are some problems. The crime was 20 years ago. It could be said that the man they executed today is not the same man that committed the crime 20 years ago. People change over time. It bothers me when someone is executed for something they did so long ago. Once there is a death sentence, they should be executed within a certain time period.. perhaps 2 years.. otherwise their sentence should be changed to life in prison.
Another problem with this same case. The man CONFESSED to the crime. What kind of message does it send to criminals when a confession doesn't keep them from being executed? Who is going to confess to a crime when a confession doesn't help them? Unless the confession was not revealed to the jury, the death penalty should never have been considered. If there was enough solid evidence to convict the man - such as being caught in the act of the crime - then the confession should not help the defendant because he's only trying to save himself. But again.. if that is the case, the confession should not be presented at the trial.
I'm not upset about this particular execution.. because the man they executed is quite evil. But even then, society shouldn't be executing people just because we don't like them. The media has a way of demonizing people.

A funny thing about that is.. the students in ADVANCED classes got LESS homework than the general population of the school! It is quite sad how many National Merit Scholars were drug addicts. I will give you one example why: Every year, all the schools in the county would send their top two students from each grade level to a regionwide math competition (of course I was the #1 pick of my school of 2500 students every year). I never won the competition because oddly enough.. the teacher and school that the competition was hosted at mysteriously won every year. What a coincidence that they knew what topics to study for that competition.. hmm… Anyway.. this competition had hundreds of students participate.. and what do you suppose the top prize was for winning? A $50 gift certificate! What bullshit! It should have been $5000.

Here in South Carolina, we have a big issue to run on and may very well win the upcoming gubernatorial race for the first time in 20 years. Democrat Jim Hodges won in 1998 when there was a lack of enthusiasm here for the Republican party. #45 is underwater in his approval rating here and also in North Carolina and Georgia. The more he injects himself into these races, the more likely Democrats are to win because his presence unifies the opposition. Look at what his support did to Luther Strange in Alabama. As for the red bar, green bar thing… I actually look at the thumbs bellow a post. Personally, I make an effort not to use the thumbs down. Look closely and you'll see the number of people who even bother is, at most, three or four. If you look at the page views of a topic, these posts aren't being read widely. It's a small circle, a self-approving circle that I wish would grow but if people just throw names at one another, why would they?
Real reputation is the number of friends you make off-site. In my short time here I've had lots of PM conversations with various people and from them, my FB has increased by seven friends.

Contratulations on getting 7 facebook friends. In my main facebook profile (which is currently suspended) I once had as many as 600 friends. In my other Facebook profiles, I'd estimate I had about 200 more. One of my Youtube videos which I made myself got 250,000 views in a month, and about 400,000 views before that account got shut down. Youtube started being nazi censors long before Facebook started. The only reason I opened a Facebook account was because of the shit that Youtube was doing.
