I wonder what studios think of Onlyfans and Chaturbate?
-
I am not going to name names.. but there are many top performers from studios like Bel Ami, Helix, and Staxus that also perform on their own.. using their studio assigned stage names.. on Chaturbate and Onlyfans.
Also, it is incredible that these TOP performers from major studios.. are working for peanuts on Chaturbate and Onlyfans. That means these studios must be paying very poorly.
-
I don't remember which, but one of the BA boys said he does OF for fun. He called OF his "old age money".
-
Take a big name like Matthew Camp with more than 100K subscribers at $10 per month. He's making a minimum of $10 million a year... Porn studios can't compete with platforms empowering individual performers.
Studios pay irrisory amounts. If you grow yourself enough fame you'll be making money from other sources like club appearances, live performances, high profile escorting, having your own porn company, signing erotic products... And then there's Onlyfans.
If you are trully a big name, studios will be very generous with you because you don't need to be there anymore, it's a new age for porn and it's not quite being easy on studio companies, but it's not the end for them, there's space for both to coexist and learn how to shape their own business models based on the other.
What people seek in pornography and how they are willing to spend their money are everchanging concerns for the industry, if tomorrow people decide they're not willing to spend 100 dollars on OF subscriptions to always see the same 10 guys, these 10 guys will need to adapt fast, but they're not an industry.
The porn industry are still an industry after all, they have decades of experience, adapting to what people want in various countries with different sex cultures, they've spent millions in researches and now with the internet it's even easier and faster to audit how you're performing and where there's room for improvement.

@ianfontinell
don't forget that onlyfans (or equivalent) take a cut of the money and typically leave the model with 30-40% of the amount collected. That's still a lot of money for someone with 10s of thousands of subscribers. -
@lololulu19 The studios have never paid well. They may pay a couple hundred dollars per scene, but it's once and done. There are no residuals that pay them more if it is a hit or per view, that all goes to the studio. So going on Onlyfans or Chaturbate can actually accumulate more money since it is an ongoing income stream.
-
I think studios hate it... Like Sean Cody and Corbin Fisher have sucked recently and I find myself drawn to OF or Chaturbate action more
-
@raphjd sounds like Kevin Warhol or Jack Harrer. Probably Kevin
-
Yeah, I was thinking Kevin said it.
-
Its not a 1-way road (from studio stardom to chaturbate and OF largess)... the 2 guys who go by "twinkzz101" (Jacob & Harley) have become 2 of the most sought after actors in studio films in recent years... even straight studios!
This is one of the things we're having to get used to in the Birth of the Internet Age: there are myriad ways for creative people to make money - sometimes a LOT of money - and often with little-to-no startup or "infrastructure" costs!
I do NOT begrudge performers (in ANY genre - from porn to musicians to visual artists) making money! And if they find a way to make a LOT of money, good for them! (So long as they aren't STEALING it, of course - there was a case of a "porn star" who was escorting & stealing from his clients... not the same thing at all!)
-
@raphjd I have often wondered what compels guys to do one thing, but not another.
For instance, there is- independent prostitution
- working as an escort through an agency
- gay porn movies
- living in a "Big Brother" style house with only gay guys with some sex (used to be common)
- pre-recorded clips on OnlyFans
- porn magazines
- erotic nude images only (no video)
- live streaming for tips (F4F, Cam4, Chaturbate)
- independent cyber-sex via skype
10 custom made porn done for individual clients either in person or commissioned
It seems like guys pick ONE of those, and rarely choose to do more than one.
I suspect there is much more #1, and #2 going on, that the guys don't admit to in interviews or when making movies.I know of a couple of 3's who do 1 & 2. It's rather disturbing to think that one's perfect, clean, fit porn movie star is also having sex with random sleaze bags, who are horrible.
I have almost never looked at sites like Grindr, but I took a look last night. I would not like to see, nor have sex with over 99% of the guys on Grindr.
-
Many years ago, I actively recruited "models" for multiple porn production companies.
Back when I was younger, being in porn was seen as "disgusting" and a "small step above prostitution" (after all, you got paid to have sex with someone else that, except for the money, you wouldn't have had sex with otherwise).
By the 2000's, porn stars were akin to ROCK STARS in the Gay Community! They were idolized out in the open, and some received "appearance fees" just to show up at a gay bar somewhere!
Now, 20-years later, EVERYONE's a porn star (just look at OF, F4F, and the others!) Got a smart phone, drop your drawers, turn on the camera app, and you're a porn star!
I'm not judging any of this - just pointing out how times change!
FWIW: I have friends who still work in the porn industry. MANY "studio" stars will do prostitution (e.g.: "paid hookups"), but not on the main sites (e.g.: not on RentMen or the likes). I also know 2 people who were on TV reality shows who also do this for extra money.
About the only GAY porn star I'm aware of who made any kind of "leap" to non-porn acting was Brent Corrigan, and that doesn't seem to have gone far (it's a far tougher business than porn - because you need more than clear skin and a big-dick!)
Anyway, WRT your comment about people you see on Grindr: I doubt most of them had any desire at all to see you naked, either!
That's the REALITY of life! There are THOUSANDS of "regular" guys for every 1 Staxus or Helix "star"! And they're all having sex! (Ok, not with you! But, we already covered that.)
Whatever your type: twink, twunk, athlete, hairy-chested powerbuilder, or fat older man - there are THOUSANDS of people out there who are "into" your type! The trick is to find them! (HINT: porn-eligible twinks won't be found much on Grindr!)
Want another example of this? Check out any local nude (clothing-optional) beach! I used to go to one when I lived on the other coast (of Florida), and I use to joke that 80% of them were so awful-looking to me that I'd pay for them to put their clothes back ON!! LOL
-
it's not the end for them, there's space for both to coexist and learn how to shape their own business models based on the other.
( @ianfontinell)This is the key. Their audiences may overlap quite a bit but they serve different consumption models. Each has different strengths and priorities.
90-95% of the OF porn content I've seen is pretty bad -- really poor camera work, poor lighting, bad/abrupt editing, hundreds of 10-20 second videos, action scenes always in boring hotel rooms, etc. Basically all the shit a lot of studios are way better at because they put tons of time/energy into those things. On the other hand, OF content is highly social, and Chaturbate is highly interactive, which makes their products feel more genuine and personalized. Studios can't compete in any meaningful way on those things right now.
Also, studios haven't seen any serious threat outside of piracy and Pornhub/Xtube, so for ages all they've done is take the assembly-line approach to producing shrink wrapped scenes with no real innovation. I would guess any studio that's deeply unhappy about OF and Chaturbate probably is only looking at pure financials and doesn't understand where they fit into the bigger picture and how to evolve their product.
-
I'll take solo content from someone's OF over any overly-produced studio solo scene. But at the same time even the OF accounts that are basically just studio proxies with cameramen and lighting equipment still are awful are capturing sex scenes, probably on purpose in order to preserve an amateur feel.
Also I think the traditional camwh*re sites like Chaturbate and Cam4 were rly scared of OF at first; IIRC I think they didnt allow performers to link their OnlyFans? (Might be making that up but I swear it used to be the case). But they had to catch up with the times and I think they're better off for it. OF still might kill off Chaturbate one day but as for now it's still doing alright.
-
Homemade solos are good, usually, but OF-type site solos are pretty garbage.
-
I think that they dont care, they will still make money, and if you have n onlyfans its a good opportunity for you to make a studio porn so more people can know you, there will always exist new actors to be introduced
-
those platforms democratized the porn industry and heavily diminished their relevance so I take it they're not very happy with that
-
It probably also doesn't help that the Pandemic boosted the profiles of "self service" sites like OF/JFF/F4F/etc. I heard, and, take this with a grain of salt, that depending on where in the world you were, there were strict covid policies to adhere to, so it's not like you could just fly someone from another country in (or sometimes across country) and do a shoot.
Where as these "big names", as bi4smooth said, just grab a smartphone and start recording content to post. There are a couple of actors that I follow (not closely) on social media who are interesting and give their take on why they work with a studio, or why they work solo.
If you're interested look up Richie West on Youtube, or Tyler Tanner on Tiktok. Both give an interesting view of studios and contracts and a glimpse into the world of working for themselves vs a studio.
Having said that, I have no idea what a studio thinks of OF, but it's certainly a highly competitive platform given the low barrier to entry and low production quality (usually) vs what a studio produces
-
The studios must hate onlyfans and jff. It allows their performers to leave once they make a name for themselves and then to never look back at the studios. Studios are pimps. They produce manufactured plastic product. I guess some people like that so ok that's good for them but please give me authentic real guys having real sex. I do admit that some of the onlyfans stuff has turned into resembling studio crap.
Down with the studios! This does not include the original owners of sites like sean cody asg active duty... but once they are bought out they become just as stale.
