Question About Using Bonus Points
-
I wasn't sure which sub category is right for this question so I hope it's okay I'm posting it here.
I have troubling seeding sufficiently and increasing my ratio, so I worry that if I'll download another torrent it will reduce me to <1 ratio. Luckily, I have relatively many bonus points to use. The thing is, I'm not sure how to use them:
If I purchase the 2.5gb uploaded for example, does it mean I have 2.5gb I can download without it effecting my ratio, or does it mean that my ratio will change as if I have uploaded 2.5gb of content to the site? Thanks in advance

That's how it works. To calculate your new ratio (after the exchange, add 2.5 GB to your upload total (shown at the top of the search screen as UL: XX GB) and then divide it by your existing download total.
One helpful trick to increasing your upload numbers is to find a new torrent (as in the past hour or so) that has many files in it. Download the torrent, but set your torrent client to only download maybe 10% of the files. You'll get those quickly, and soon be seeding them to everyone else who wants all the files. Even if it's not material that you want, this will boost your ratio. Give it a try and see what happens.

First of all, thanks for your reply and for the tip!
I tried once downloading only part of a torrent and it acted as if I'm still downloading the torrent even after I started seeding. Is there a way to fix that? -

I tried once downloading only part of a torrent and it acted as if I'm still downloading the torrent even after I started seeding. Is there a way to fix that?Short answer, no. If you haven't downloaded all the files, the system counts this as one of the files that you're downloading. If you're up against the limit of how many simultaneous downloads you can have, this won't work for you. (I don't know how this limit is determined, or where to find it...for me, it's 100, but then again my share ratio is over 6.) It will also count against the number of daily downloads you can start, which can be found at https://www.gaytorrent.ru/rationator.php .
It takes some time to get started on this site and build up a good ratio. The key is to download fresh material, but not huge files, until your ratio and download buffer get up to comfortable levels. There are people who join up and download a 45 GB DVD, and then they'll be in "ratio jail" for a long time.

Is there a way to fix that?So far as I can tell, if you STOP SEEDING, the site will eventually STOP listing the torrent as "downloading" - e.g. you CAN abandon a download - but to do so, you have to REALLY abandon it...

Just remember that "stop seeding" means removing the torrent from your client's torrent list. You can keep the files you've downloaded, and even keep the .torrent file on your computer if you want to come back to it in the future. In uTorrent, this means right-clicking on the torrent in question, and either selecting "remove" (which keeps the .torrent file, but it's inactive), or choose "remove and delete the torrent [and perhaps the downloaded files if you don't want them]."
Full disclosure: Brother bi4smooth has convinced me that uTorrent is a POS and I'm going to migrate to qBitTorrent, but I don't know how that one works.

Thanks for the faith! I do love the qBitTorrent program - somewhere hidden in the forums is a how-to with LOTS of tips on setting it up specifically for here... I'll look for that link and post it here if I can find it....
To your point: the process is the same in qBitTorrent - you choose delete, then get an option (check-box) as to whether to delete the files associated with the torrent.
I will say, though, that the mods have FULL FAITH AND CONFIDENCE in the version of utorrent they promote on the QTM installation page...
But torrent programs are like shoes... everyone has their favorite, and as long as the job gets done, they generally aren't noticed much....
