duplicate vanished - should I have gotten points?
-
Starting April 2, this happened.
- I noticed that torrents A and B have the same 4 .avi content files
- A is earlier, B is later
- but A is not good to keep, because 1) it's dead and 2) it comes with 4 .png files that nobody would retain, which makes A harder to "re-seed by hand"
- I posted comments to both A and B, pointing to each other and explaining why B should be kept
- but then I officially reported B (since it is later) as a duplicate of A
- A now has vanished
- I did not get the bonus points for duplicate reporting
My question is, should I have gotten points?
And if yes, whom do I ask about it?It's possible that someone deleted A by coincidence, unrelated to me.
But it feels like someone processed my report of B as a duplicate; kept B / deleted A (wisely and as I had hinted); and then gave me no points for the report.
It's not possible for an ordinary user to see A any more, but B (with my comment at the bottom, pointing to A) is here: https://www.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=c901e7c8154d461ca7ae31ba473d4d65d61c4dc01b377327

@blablarg18 If something got removed as a reported duplicate, the points will go to the first person to report it. If you left comments on torrents, others who see those comments can decide "yes, this needs reported" and do so before you can.
Additionally, others do keep an eye out for torrents to report, even without helpful comments. Those points add up quick! Points are always rewarded for verified reported duplicates.
When a torrent needs reported, just report it and let Staff take it from there.

@ricky Thanks. But if someone beat me to the report, they would have had to 1) ignored it for many years, then 2) seen my comments & made the report within 10 minutes of my posting the comments.
Because I did it all within a 10 minute span.
Who would even see my comments? (Until they search the torrent or work with it, some time much later)

@blablarg18 The original Uploader, and anyone that also commented on those torrents, immediately get a System Notice when a new comment gets posted.
Please keep in mind that Staff Members have no motive to handle reports in such a way to divert or deny points, or for any other reason.
There are possibly other situations that can happen that can lead to the results you experienced, some of which are handled in-house. If you feel that the situation needs to be investigated, you can click on Support, then Helpdesk and express your concerns. If you do not get an answer, then it is definitely an issue that is handled in-house only.

@ricky Agree with Ricky there's a strong chance of a previous downloader receiving your Comment in his Messages, and reporting it right away. There is really no benefit to identifying a dupe in the Comments section, although members sometimes do. Use the Report Duplicate button instead to protect your discovery -- and chances of being first/50 points.

Just to add my 2-cents worth - I had this happen to me once, and it turned out that the older torrent, by the time it was looked at, was essentially dead: no seeders and no leechers. So they deleted the ORIGINAL, which made my duplicate report "invalid" (according to the explanation I was given).

@bi4smooth OK, that would cover my case. As explained above, (and possibly on my own hints / advice), they deleted the EARLIER torrent.
