I ran all the commands.  However I notice you said "you should be back in business to use your Volume Control mixer" although as far as I can tell it was never out of business.  I wouldn't hazard to guess what ALSA packages to remove and unfortunately I still have sound coming from both speakers and headphones.

It's just so fracking strange that plugging in the headphones used to kill the speakers but now not, no hardware was changed in the reinstall.

In related/unrelated news:  I removed old linux kernels today to see if I could and I guess to facilitate updating the kernel even though I don't understand or see how that would effect something that seems so simple…

This is probably a stupid question, but would it be possible to use this in conjunction with, say, a PE of windows? I have one here which has speech. If not, as a blind user this would be pretty hard for me to use. Does the guy take suggestions? As this is just a bootable dos interface does it not just use the command line?

Hmm… He does take suggestions, and I will make one on your behalf to see if he has any ideas.  He generally codes exclusively in assembler, which means he doesn't make many demands on the OS, which is good for what his utility does, but would be bad for interfacing to a speech interface.  The issue is you don't want to be testing the disk at the same time as the OS would ever write to it, and Windows is very hands on with the disks when its running, unfortunately.  Also, you don't want bad drivers getting in the way of the tests, and/or causing unwanted caching, etc.  Never the less its a great question and I will get back to you if he gets back to me.

So I heard back quickly, and I'm afraid the answer is not all that we would have hoped:

Unfortunately SpinRite cannot run from with Windows PE.

He would need to find and load a DOS-based screen reader to run SpinRite … or get visual assistance.

How it works I have no idea, having limited experience with it, however. And how it would integrate I am also not sure.

I believe control quick is equal to right click in windows. I can't be sure though because voiceover commands are different.
Yorufukuru (or however you spell that) for twitter, handbreak, VLC, onyx, u torrent, pc monitor (this goes for both windows and mac, by the way, as well as the other part of that for mobiles), bt sync. I feel like I'm missing something but I honestly can't remember. Oh. I also use fan controller for mac, but I'm more of a control freak that way. Oh, one other one - temperature monitor.
Really depends what you're wanting to do.

i'm with maxstevens int his one, i love Sony Vegas for editing, super easy to use. i haven't tried the 9.0 platinum version, i'm saving to buy it. wink wink

I should have added the usual caveat when installing free software - avoid the unwanted addition of browsers/toolbars/3rd-party software by making sure you untick the right boxes during the install process.

I had some connection problems when I first started using PIA, but found a fix for Mac users and it's been working great ever since.
A similar fix might work on Windows, dunno. Without the fix I eventually couldn't connect, with the fix I connect fast and never seem to drop the connection -rock solid.

That is not exact.

You have to use GPT partitions instead of MBR partitions, but in both cases, you'll format the partitions with NTFS files system.

With Windows, if you want to boot on a GPT partioned drive, you'll need a UEFI main board. It is next to impossible to convert an installed Windows from a MBR disk to a GPT disk.

A "site rip" isn't really the same as a capture from a video.

Captures from ( mostly ) flash-videos are usually done with browser-addons. I see that you use Google Chrome, so use the site hxxps://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en to search for addons, that fits your needs.

Site rips are done with "content downloader", where you specify the filetypes ( avi, mpeg, flv, or whatever ) and search the hole domain for these filetypes to download them afterwards. But be aware, that most of the webmaster know how to secure their files, so that you won't find what your are looking for this easy - and apart from that, this usage of a domain is mostly illegal. Read the terms and conditions of a website to learn more about it.

Is there an option to enter the auth data in xxx downloader? So if you want to download from a pay site you have to login or something. Or does this programm uses the cookies from the browser?

1. Did you try converting another file, to see if that worked?

2. CovertXtoDVD is about to go to v5xxx, so you are way behind.

3. Is your computer old?  A lot of older computers are struggling with some of the newer video files we've been seeing here.

I'd say that's where the problem lies.  There's probably something wrong with the video file itself.  I've gotten a few "stinkers" over the years and I've made a special folder for the one I think are worth keeping.
